Ordinary People, Extraordinary Heroes | Timothy Brown | TEDxNorthernIllinoisUniversity

Tim talks about his survival of 9/11/01, the Supreme Sacrifice of the firefighters and police officers on that day, and stories of ordinary people who chose to take action in order to save others. His inspirational talk is filled with emotion of the everyday superheroes of 9/11.
Tim Brown is currently a New York Firefighter. Tim began to realize his dream of firefighting at the age of 15, after he started to volunteer firefight. Tim started his FDNY career in the South Bronx, on 73 Engine. After 7 years of “punishment” there, he moved to 4 Truck in the Times Square section of Manhattan for a year. In 1992, Tim achieved his life-long dream of a spot in Rescue 3 in the Bronx. Tim spent about 10 years assigned to Rescue 3, during which he was a part of the FEMA USAR team. He participated in their activities in Oklahoma City and the Atlanta Olympics. He also responded to both terrorist attacks of the World Trade Center.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I haven't seen Tim in at least 15 years. Have to laugh knowing how we both look a bit older. He survived and then worked with great enthusiasm, humility, and professionalism at the WTC site. Difficult to watch and listen with him mentioning so many names I knew.

Great, practical speech. While I don't fully agree with everything the Chief says, what is true is that it pays to be ready. A few years ago I saved my grandfather from a choking incident at a restaurant, He had turned purple/gray from the lack of oxygen, and I used the Heimlich to revive him and expel the food he had gagged on. I have trained in basic first aid and CPR, and on a few occasions in the last 18 yrs I've saved or helped save a person. Learn to swim, and first aid/ CPR, take self-defense, learn how to jump-start a car. You might need it one day.

A Chaps- if you are truly interested in hearing the testimony of a truly heroic firefighter on 911 please check out Rudy Dent on Facebook or KZread. He's about the only member of the FDNY that has taken action to find out who was truly responsible for the deaths of his brother firefighters that day. I would also look into the work of Firefighers for 911 Truth and Architects and engineers for 911 truth.

Now this country is so divided. When 9/11 happened you didn’t see or hear racism. We were all as one. Is it gonna take another catastrophe for us to open our eyes again and realize that it doesn’t matter your skin color, religion , etc. May God bless us. Or Higher Power, Allah or whatever your beliefs are.

It must be really hard to tell a story like this that has so much personal pain and truth to it. likely He does not know and he is being used largely because the sacrifice involved in his part makes it grossly inappropriate to question or debate the facts. notice the endorsed propaganda, to mire the truth about the bombs in WTC , the vanishing flight 93 over the fields no parts found , the pentagon attack with no footage and no wreckage and a small hole no engines no wings . The total collapse and and powdering to dust of two buildings designed to withstand jet liners striking them and building 7 following suit into its own foot print despite never being hit. The extent to which terrorists had access to the WTC has been grossly under reported to save embarrassment and liability at the very best, and at worst: wanton disregard for security in anticipation of such an attack to provide a precursor for the PNAC we have seen since 2001. I will never buy it I was 21 when it happened and we did not believe it then and we don,t believe it now. The hawks wanted this, the Cia knew about it (Richard clark clearly shows this) Innocent people were murdered to facilitate a much greater genocide that has lasted and spread ever since. PNAC

They wouldn't land helicopters on the roof because it was "too dangerous"....but they sent firefighters up those stairs ! Sorry, but I would not have gone up. I have 10 years on the job. Sorry but to lose 350+ for that is nonsense !! Do you know what one wife had to do, she had to have a closed casket, as small as a baby's, because all she got from her husband was.... his finger. Some firefighters didn't even get that, because inside a pile of burnt bunker gear was a yellowish, greenish liquid that was once a firefighter ! Fuk that noise people. The only great thing the city gives us is a nice funeral ! . Peace !
