"Order of the British Empire is NOT Racist!". Britain's Honours System is the Best in the World!

From Boris Johnson's Resignation Honours List to The King's Birthday Honours, Britain's Honours System has been in the news recently. Do we still need honours in the 21st century? Are they a source of pride and patriotism? Can the Order of the British Empire be justified today? A lively GB News debate featuring NCF Senior Fellow Rafe Heydel-Mankoo, co-editor of "Burke's Peerage: World Orders of Knighthood & Merit" (the definitive guide to honours).

The ignorance on the realitynof the Empire is simply Stunning. The British Enpire was not "Dominating" or "Repressing" Unlike the Empires of the Continentals. The very first Confirmationnofvthat was the size of the Army ! Which never stood at morecthan 160, 000, with an Army that Small you "Dominate" Xweet FA ! Next, every Member of the Empire, was Run under Our Common Law Constitution, and Each Member Nation was Run and Administered by their Own People, including Their Justice Systems. If a Verdict of Their Courts was appealed, it first went to the Governor for Review, if they agreed withbthe Verdict, another Appeal could be Lodged which went to the British Parliament for Review, so on the Post Empire formation of the British Commonsealth, all former Colonies wanted to keep that sensible Justice System, which was so admired around the World - even that properly Trained in Our Common Law Constitution, and Huge Fan of it Mahatma Gandhi - that even ountries that were never part of the British Empire, have tried to get in, access to which is up to the other Commonwealth Members, which is how Mozambique became a Member of the Commonwealth. Frankly, this woman's Hatred of it and retain, suggests she is so unhappy living here, perhaps she should be encouraged to leave for somewhere else she would be so much happier ? As I am a Fan of what Our Parliament is Contracted to be, which is a .Power Denying Balanced Republic Under the Rule of Law, which must include all three possible Forms of Pure Government, to take advantage of their Unique and indispensable Benefits, it must include Democracy (replaced by a Tyranny in the nid 18th entry, that is still there), Aristocracy (Replaced illegally by a Kleptocracy of Oligarchs since 1911), and Monarchy / Dictatorship - and all alternatives to a Monarchy are so uniformly Disastrous , I am a Convinced Monarchist. However, We The People Own All Public Offices, including the Crown, and unfortunately the Present Holders of the Office, thanks to the deliberate Corruption of the current Family in order to Control them, by the Royal Ha dlers, which has resulted in the Present King having a Chip on Both Shoulders, I have no alternative but to consider the Current Royal Family, as Totally Unfit for Purpose, and they need to go ! Fortunately this is not a Problem, as every Traditional County in Britain by default, is a Kingdom, and we have a very good selection a ailable as alternatives. Personally, I think the ritish People, and the World, would be tickled pink if there is a descendant of the King Arthur Bloodline available to take Over. That Bloodline is the House of Warwick, and its Coat of Arms still has King Arthur 1st and 2nd Battle Standard of the Silver Bear in it, which is where their Nickname Comes from as The Bear in the British Language is Ardd Yr - Bear The, pronounced Arth Er. so not the actual Family name. Me, I'd suggest the Surname of the Family, be changed to Arthur, just for the Fun of it. Think it's a good idea ? Shame really, until the Rotal Handlers wrecked the present Family to make them Blackmailable, there were some very good Monarchs, Victoria for example, Fi ally Mastered the Out of Control East India Company, at the end of her Reign, and was in the Process of dealing with that Malevolent Criminal Bastard Cecil Rhodes and his abso, ute Scumbag Cronies when she Died. I was shocked to Discover just how much the British Establishment of the Time Truly loathed those Malevolent Bastards. Thankfully my Great Grandnother, who was the Chef for a Government Minister before Victoria Died, and Party to Establishment Scuttlebutt at many Functions, lived long enough to give me a Wakeup Call after I made the mistake of saying his name in her earshot. Talk about Livid and Spitting Nails at what that Bastard had done. Of only we still had an Establishment like then, and not the one we have now, that is modelled on Cecil Rhodes. 😡 Bob.

The British presence was tiny - India continued to be ruled as it always had been, by maharajahs. I'm 83 and retired at 77 from 50 years working development aid as a hands on engineer in 7 developing countries in Africa and Asia. I lost several friends over the years, one to snake bite in Zambia another two to road accidents and one to tropical illness. When I retired from 20 years in Cambodia I informed the British Embassy but was totally ignored. I was not looking for an award but a thank you would have been nice.

What do you mean ‘ignored’? That’s a big assumption and your story is vague. You say you informed the British Embassy like you were expecting to get recognition. I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands of people across Britain and the Commonwealth who are just as worthy of being nominated for honours and I imagine they have their work cut out even narrowing the list down to a sensible number.

God , she's obsessed . You could never find any middle ground with her , so don't waste your breath . Wouldn't it be funny/ironic if her family descended from African slave traders/users but she didn't know it . The countries in the commonwealth today are there because they want to be , they are not forced to be . Black countries are chosing to be in the commonwealth . So , her argument about that is just silly because they all have the right to leave the commonwealth if they want to for reasons of a past Empire . And by the way , Britain sent our Royal Navy out to patrol the shores to stop slavery between 1807 and 1860 saving many African lives at great expense to us in both lives and money . That's 53 years devoted to saving African slaves and stopping slavery when other countries including Africa would not stop . You can imagine , that's a lot of British lives lost in battle and a lot of British money spent that we could have chosen not to do so , but we did the honourable thing instead and fought to end slavery . I don't think we owe any more apologies or money and in fact some acknowledgement for those 53years and lives lost should be given . But we have already apologised till we are blue in the face as a country regardless . We have given lives and money in the past . Without Britain slavery would have gone on for who knows how much longer . Africa certainly did not want to give up the slave trade . The hypocrisy here is tremendous since the Africans were the only and biggest slave enablers of their own people in that time .

What is woman objects to is "British Empire" in the name not the term order and would accept an Order of Lenin or two if still available and dodging the issue of black recipiants of the order. She clearly chooses not to understand the difference (and hopes we don't) between The Commonwealth as a voluntary association of nations and the Commonwealth Realms who acknowledge Charles III as their current Head of State. Oddly enough Caribbean politicians are rather fond of calling themselves Sir or Dame as KCBE/KBE even though they are at liberty to issue their own orders as have Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Firstly: I'm not British, we have no Monarchy anymore where I came from and believe me, today's Monarchies in Europe are MUCH better than a new President every 6 Years! The taxpayers pay loads of money for pre-electoral period, grants to the participating parties, the inauguration etc. But they don't bring in any real money, just cost a f lot. If one looks at the British Monarchy: KC has managed the crown estate so well that the government gets a s load of money and they get only a small part of that back. What the government does with the money, who knows. When the RF travels to countries they help the Government to acquire business deals, promotes the country etc. Tourist do not come for the food to Britain, they come because of the great history abundance, the still lived tradition and the RF!
