Orchid Cactus - Breathtaking Blooms!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, Byron Martin discusses Orchid Cactus:
www.logees.com/browse-by-bota...
The Orchid Cactus, known scientifically as Epiphyllum, is a captivating specimen in the cactus family, renowned for its breathtaking, colorful blooms. Unlike its desert-dwelling cactus cousins, the Orchid Cactus hails from the jungles of Central and South America. This means they thrive in humid, well-drained conditions and prefer bright, indirect light. Orchid Cactus do not have the shape of a typical cactus. Instead, they have flat, broad leaves, creating an attractive silhouette even when the plant is not in bloom. Flowering typically occurs from late spring into early summer, offering an opulent display of vibrant colors ranging from pink and red to white and yellow. This plant is also ideal for hanging baskets, as its cascading leaves can create a lush, vertical display. With its minimal care requirements and show-stopping blooms, the Orchid Cactus is perfect for anyone who wants to add a touch of the tropics to their plant collection.

Thanks for the information. I've had one for about 20 years but haven't had much blooms. It also looked wild and gangly. I recently cut it back and I'm rooting the leaves. After seeing this video, I realize I need to stress the plant to get it to bloom. Hopefully next year I'll get some blooms! Thanks.

I’d like to try these under trees. Tropical epiphytes do well in the ground here in south west coastal Florida because we don’t typically have any real topsoil here. We have white sand instead. White sand doesn’t hold any moisture so here at ground level under trees, it’s a similar humid but free draining, frost-free growing environment as would be found up in the trees in the true tropics. Frost sometimes forms at the tops of trees and shrubs here but not usually at ground level.

It depends on the size of the plant. Generally, they should start blooming within 2-3 years. Bigger and older = more flowers!
