    you know your like the only person/team that actully mentions saber fighting (real saber not lightsaber). which is super important. i look at some other people (names to not be said) and most if not all of them only focus on orbits without strikes and footwork. leading them to a bad performance of skillmenship. when i see you guys, i see hard work and dedication on more than just fanbase. which is why i woild recomend u on top #1 for anyone wanting to learn this. great job.

    I used to do orbits just for the heck of it whenever my friend and I would spar with sparring sabers, like as jokes or as intimidation. I never realized that they could be applied in combat, but now I must learn how to do a proper figure 8 orbit without leaving any part of me unexposed.

    You guys should study medieval manuscript swordfighting classes to see how people actually fought with double edged swords. A lightsabre is essentially an all edged sword. PS: this twirling is just clowning around, in a real swordfight it would get knocked out of your hand in less than 1 second as the wrist is weaker than a double hand grip.

    If you read any of the single-handed sword manuscripts, you’d see that defense with one hand is done through counter-striking the opponents incoming strike. While exaggerating the “orbit” as they do in lightsaber is ill-advised, cutting and following through is a very similar motion with an arming sword.

    I would be curious to know placement in regional/national/global competitions of the instructors for this academy. basically, prove this really works. place top 10 nationally and I will start to pay attention.

    You know like, if lightsabers were real, all these orbits would be possible cause the blade is weightless. Try to do these with just a flashlight, you'll see what I mean. Of course it doesn't matter cause light sabers aren't real (yet :3)

    Could anybody tell me what kind of sabers they are using? I will be buying my first proper one soon, and ideally I would like one with a black hilt and a small button to turn it on, much like the one the younger guy has, red or guardian blue. I have looked on ultrasabers and saberforge but I am still struggling to find a good one within my price range.

    none of the video about soresu I saw from anyone displays the real accurate techniques that makes a swordsman "invincible". Anyway, you need dual wield to achieve this level, otherwise, there will always be a hole, and no reasonable counterattack is possible when applying the right technique

    you have the right idea in your explanations but , this light sabre fighting is based on Chinese sword techniques. such as Tia chi sword " wu dao" and the "dan dao" broad sword. and Japanese ken-do. not to mention that Hollywood over dramatizes it all. There subtitles that any Asian sword master will destroy a jedi with just a months practice with a light sabre. There are small nuances in those orbits that you just dan't even know that will mess you up every time. among the other fine tricks a Renascence sword master can school a jedi on. keep at it have fun and learn learn learn . sword play is so much fun.

    And how do you use eclipse orbit? I mean, its the fanciest but, comparing to this, is kind of useless.

  • @smol_hornet613

    @smol_hornet613

    Well, it's pretty clear that a movement like that would easily crumble under even the less kinetic strikes. Therefore, the most logical solution would be to protect the blade by using your body orientation to divert as much of the incoming force as possible. If combined with a sidestep followed by a spin, for example, you could deflect the opponent's sword as you're moving away from them, all the while using the spin to wind up a big, heavy-hitting overhead. In short, the snake twirl used in the eclipse orbit would be completely unable to actually block attacks, but would rather serve as a barrier between you and the opponent's sword so as to buy you enough time to dodge. The very best thing about it would be that it wouldn't lose any momentum at all, making it perfect for following up with vicious counter-attacks. In fact, it may even gain momentum if you block at the right moment.

    it could add coverage to an attack from behind, and cover you if you were changing stance directions, 1 vs 1 its not too much unless you are a fighting/being seriously mobile, but in group situations it has more tactical use, even then though, its really kind of a spotty in the moment thing.

  • @smol_hornet613

    @smol_hornet613

    Good point, yeah. The huge breaking point of the eclipse orbit is that it has no leverage whatsoever (which is especially problematic with lightsabers since they are handle-heavy), but it does excel at covering some angles that most sword techniques don't even touch.

    yeah i mainly use it to intimidate people out of charging and throwing a random strike point at them so they don't just back stab me, normally use it with an away step.
