Orbea Urrun Review 4k
Спорт
Back at it with a bike that's a bit out of the norm for us. We’ve got the Orbea Urrun. It's a hardtail, and it’s an eMTB. It rocks the lighter weight, lower power Shimano EP8 RS and a decent-sized 540Wh battery. All-in-all, it’s designed to go far. In fact, Urrun in the Basque language means far. So today, we’re trying to go far. We’re going to kill a battery while talking about who this bike is for. Stick around to see if it’s the right eMTB for you. I love my Urrun. It's a great bike for exploring new ground, unmarked forest trails, general country riding. I've taken it on 45 mile rough coastal tracks which I wouldn't contemplate doing on my Orbea Occam or gravel bike, im also 52 not 22 with quite a few old niggling injuries. I'm about to pull the trigger on a range extender, expensive yes, but I'm planning on doing some longer road trips whenever the Irish weather decides to play nice for a change

What model and year of the Urrun also colour version do you have?
Had this bike for a few months. Good gravel/commuter. I even put studded tires on it and rode it all winter. My other ebike is a Yeti 160e. So a big difference. The Urrun is a great adventure bike if you are going to stick to road and gravel. Anything beyond that, I would recommend a SL bike with full suspension. The Urrun was great for me, but after a few months my body couldn't take it anymore. But I'm old and feel everything now days. Great bike, just wasn't a good fit for me. Great review as always by bikers edge!

I was surprised at how comfortable I felt on the bike even on some tougher trails.

Would you recommend this bike for touring with a kid's trailer attached? I'm looking for a hardtail MTB that can travel ~50km with a ~50kg trailer (2 kids) attached. No mountains, just roads and gravel, slower paced.
great review - no bs - straight to the point and down to earth - great blog too! thanks!!

Indeed thankyouuu
I was a trailquest rider in the era of 26" wheels, now a roadie using my Roubaix on forestry roads, so this could be the bike that gets me back onto fat tyres as I enter my 70s. I live in the Highlands of Scotland and we do have plenty of big rides on forestry, shooting and water board tracks.
Seems like this is just a bike for, adventure, and it looks like it rides rather fun. I also think this might be the only good looking E-Hardtail.

Great bike for those adventure rides!
I like it 💪the orange color looks cool❤
Brilliant review in fact the best review ive seen of any bike. Some questions, if I removed the fork to reduce weight and fitted skinnier tyres basically for doing small distance touring with light off road would this make the motor slower with less weight since the front chainring is small ?
Just got mine last week, love it

Thank you. I am in the market for an Urrun. Your video helped me decide.

@@BikersEdgeKaysville I bought it! My first bike in 20 years... The fact that riding a e-MTB is seemingly "just plain fun" is what pulled me over. I think I will use it more than a regular MTB for that reason. And being outside adventuring was the actual goal.

So good! Enjoy!
This looks like a very interesting bike. Having a general purpose bike you can do some light shredding on and a bike for the gnar seems like the way to go

Not a bad way to do it.
I have one, just for what you mentioned, Commute + Adventure. I too am (6"2 or 188 cm as I say) with an XL my short legs could have gone for for an L as the standover hight is fairly tall. Super happy with the rest!

The EP801 is way quieter than the OG EP8
Just got this bike and finally got to take it on a 21 mile blue trail ride. Even though I was a little beat up by the end- this bike can hold its own. It also climbs like a goat. What are your thoughts on the brakes? I feel like mine are underpowered but they may just need to be looked at.

I really disliked the brakes. I’ve struggled with them on any bike I’ve tried them on.
Which Urrun was this? The Urrun 10 or Urrun 30? Do you think I need the size XL when I‘m 186cm (6‘1) and have longer than average legs?
@BikersEdgeKaysville

This was the 10. I steer clear of specific size advice over the internet. It’s a bit of a crapshoot.
Is there a better HT similar to urrun (price wise too) with longer range you could recommend?

I don't think anything will come close to the Urrun on range.
What does it weigh? I want to be able to lift it over a locked gate, put in my car etc. I have a cube that’s great but 24kg

Can you change the drive mode settings via the app? As far as I know this is possible when you have the display installed …

From what I understand you need the e-tubes app to make changes.

@@BikersEdgeKaysville thanks! I already contacted Orbea and they confirmed it's possible via the app and bluetooth. You don't need the 500 or 600 display for that feature.

It has 2 setup option in the app. I have this bike and set up option one for high power and option 2 for maximum distance (low power)
In the congested cities, the number-one reason for e-bike crashes and motor-vehicle collisions, is riders are zombied into gawking at the handlebar display.
@BikersEdgeKaysville

I’d argue it’s probably more likely to be driver gawking at their hand mounted displays.
What glasses are you wearing?

How reasonable is it to ride this unpowered? I know 43 pounds is on the heavy side for a mountain bike, but does it feel reasonable, or is it just an unpleasant pig when unpowered? Close to pulling the trigger to buy.

I tested a Urrun 40 the other day and I would say it's quite ok to ride it with the motor off, especially if it's flat.
