    I really enjoyed this new type of video. Quite often we spend ages agonising over which shade of colour X to get, so these kind of videos are well received. I have Diamine Autumn Oak but mine has nowhere near the same amount of brown that yours has.

    Eighteen Orange inks? You are definitely the man to watch for orange. I'm watching these because Orange is not the sort of colour I think I like. Although whilst it's not an orange Diamine Ancient Copper is a favourite. As is Diamine Ochre... So I guess I'm on the margin here. Thanks for this series. I really enjoy them. :) (I struggle with some of Noodler's ink names, but calling an ink Napalm is stomach turning. Forget the rights or wrongs of the war. So many people were horribly killed or survived with maiming and dreadful disfigurements from that horror.)

    Wow! Fascinating video and only halfway through your orange inks! Yes, please, a regular ink comparison is always enjoyable. I have one orange ink (never been a fan of orange anything), bought in the last month and only put in a pen this week. It’s Graf von Faber-Castell Burned Orange. It’s really nice and I am writing my journal with it so it’s passed the test of being tollerable for more than a few sentences. Ultimately, though, I think that I’ll find I prefer reds to oranges.

    I suggest using a syringe to fill up from a J Herbin standard 30 ml bottle. Admittedly, there is the small discomfort of having to wait for the ink to propagate through the feed before using it. But if you really like a color, like lie de thé, then the 100 ml will do well!

    I like that Dave uses his fountain pens as dip nibs. It's interesting to see which pen he pairs with the inks being compared. As glass pens seem to be carrying a lot of ink, more than FP dipped nibs, I think we get a better feel for the tonality of the inks. Besides, if Dave uses a glass pen, that would rule out him using his Visconti Homo Sapiens London Fog with a Fine 23 kt Pd nib should he ever compare grey inks. :) Yes... very self-serving on my part! I've seen the Visconti Homo Sapiens Blue Lagoon; it's very pretty, but nowhere near the London Fog, imo.

    Thank you very much for your reviews. Tell me, what do you think about leaving a bottle open so that some of the water evaporates and the ink darkens a bit? Of course, leaving the lid half open so that no dust enters. I want to try it with the Lamy Red and Diamine Blaze Orange

  • @PenultimateDave

    @PenultimateDave

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think depending on the environment you're in, you will most likely increase the risk of mould getting into the bottle and other contaminates, e.g. dust. If you wanted to do this the safest way is to ink up a pen and just leave it inked up for weeks at a time before trying to used the pen. The other way would be to decant 1ml of ink into a vial and leave that uncapped for a while for water to evaporate. What you will find is that if an ink has sheening properties becausei t's already quite thick, it will sheen more when water evaporates and the ink will become thicker.

    Wednesday sounds good. Thanks for the video, and I like this format. I've enjoyed this video a lot. It gives an opportunity to see several inks swabbed up on the same sheet of paper and allows you to see a good color comparison. Orange is not an ink that I consider seeking out a bottle for purchase. The ones I do have came with a purchase, that said, the Mont Blanc Lucky Orange is an ink I might have to think about purchasing. I also like that you not only show what the ink looks like wet, but also when it dries. I have one ink that I have that I think looks amazing when it's wet. But it's actually very flat and chalky looking when it dries. So seeing the dried ink is nice to be able to judge before and after.

  • @PenultimateDave

    @PenultimateDave

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, I'll definitely create more! I think keeping it to up to 9 inks makes it easier to see on one page, I could do ink swatches smaller and get more on there but I think 9 inks makes it a good size video. Yes, I've seen so many videos where people do an ink swatch and either just show it wet or just show it dry, but I've had so many times where an ink goes on one colour and dries a completely different shade, so I felt it was important. I have to wait about 35 mins though with Tomoe River to let the ink dry, and just leave the camera running and edit out the large chunk of it drying. I may look to see if I can do a time lapse on that bit though so you could see it drying slowly over the course of a minute or two.

  • @cyntoh9265

    @@PenultimateDave Nine is a good number, it gives you a nice size swatch, and I think allows you plenty of time to talk about what you like and don't like about a particular ink. I would love to see the time lapse of the ink drying, I think that would be pretty cool.

    Of all colors orange is my least favorite, as it seems it can't decide whether it wants to be red or brown, lol. But I do have Autumn Oak and Apache Sunset, although I rarely use them. I've never had a problem with any Noodler's inks staining, even the Baystate line that you have to clean with a bleach solution. But I won't use a Baystate in any expensive pen just to be safe.

  • @PenultimateDave

    @PenultimateDave

    4 жыл бұрын

    I'm like that but more so with colours where they say they are green and they turn out to be teal or a blue green. The last time I used Baystate Blue in a cheap indian piston demonstrator it stained it within 5 mins. No matter what concentration of bleach would it remove the blue hue from the clear plastic. At that point I decided to give it away as samples. It didn't stain the converter though that I had dedicated it to in another pen.

Dunno if I'd write a letter in it though. Robert Oster has a bunch of good ones, as you'd expect, notably Orange, and Orange Zest. I'd like to see his Fire on Fire, but I can't get it in Australia (!😞), and his Ng special is good too. His Orange Rumble is better than it looks in samples. Blackstone's Wild Orange is worthy and Birmingham's Albert Einstein Relative Cadmium is good. There's the famous Diamine Pumpkin, Krishna Goldfish is very interesting and then we can open the Iroshizuku box, although some of them have sparkly-arklies in. Fuyu-Gaki is nice though.

    I like all of these inks, with the exception of Apache Sunset. I absolutely detest everything about it. But I don't see Autumn Oak or Coral as orange inks at all. To me, Autumn Oak is a brown and red ink, not an orange one. Coral, on the other hand, is its own color. It is not orange, and it is not pink. It is coral.
