HI,
If you would like to learn more about Typical and Atypical development I created a course from 0-6 months old.
Many of you asked me for advice for children with different difficulties in oral motor areas.
Breathing control and Sucking skills are some of the most important pre-linguistic skills.
For children, non-verbal-I always suggest using imitation and copying as the best example of what to do. If your child does not imitate or has visual difficulties or attention problems, just do the exercises on him or her.
Oral motor therapy works on the oral skills necessary for proper speech and feeding development.
These skills include awareness, strength, coordination, movement, and endurance of the lips, cheeks, tongue, and jaw.
The activities will help your child to develop them easier.
Incorporate them into your daily routine whenever you have time. The more you practice better the child becomes at imitation and agile at it.
These movements/exercises are recommended for children 2 years old.
Practice them on the way to school/work, during commercials, while you're making dinner, etc.
Make it a game and have fun!
Please note:
These exercises should not replace therapeutic intervention. It is best to see a speech-language pathologist and/or occupational therapist trained in oral motor therapy.
They will be able to assess the situation, prescribe a course of action, and guide you through the process.

I have a five-year-old girl who does not speak yet, we discovered at 3 that she had a hearing problem, and after a short period she had a cochlear implant operation, and after a year and a half of implantation, she did not have a significant improvement in speech. Now I do exercises for her mouth and tongue muscles, and I have a question: Will this be useful? Will she talk?

Hello, thank you for reaching out. In order to know if it will be useful or not you must to try to work on her muscles. Like everything- need repetition. I highly suggest you to look for an occupational therapist who can guide you in this matter. Playing many songs, singing , doing funny noises, instruments can help to develop this area. She is still little so the potential is there 🙏

@@LisaShchyhelOT She goes to a specialized school to treat speech problems for more than a year, but I did not see a clear difference even though she has remarkable intelligence, so I need your advice and I would be grateful. If it was possible

@@mervatslmawe7237 of course. Sometimes it happens. I offer online guidance for parents/ online sessions for a proper guidance. Otherwise through here I can suggest to work a lot on massaging the face, use battery operated toothbrush, a lot of games, bubbles, whistles anything that she can enjoy. A lot of songs with few words. With the tongues muscles, can push and help her to develop the speech, sometimes it doesn’t happen sometimes yes, I cannot tell you as I don’t know your child. But I would definitely keep trying 💪🙏

Kindly go to my next widens where I provide exercises for babies. Having difficulties with hypotonia, due to PWS it is very recommended to do the exercises of the face every day. Try to provide toy with vibration on the checks and neck fo you child, can be vibration balls, or vibration tools like for massages , but anything that vibrates can stimulate faster the tone of the child. Thank you

I will suggest you to watch some of my past videos about oral motor skills. Also I would suggest you to work a lot on imitation, from videos / songs/ clapping songs/ dance songs, in general make your child move! Movement - motor planning is the key in order to improve any other muscles or activity. As final advice I would suggest you to contact an occupational therapist. Otherwise- I do online services in order to guide parents! Play with bubbles, water games , fun activities brings the best of the child’s skills.
