It was the same with MP 5. How many times do you transform him from gun to robot to gun and back again? Not alot. At the momment, he's in gun mode because the gun barrel joint snapped. And robot mode, his middle section keeps flopping away from his waist.

I've transformed MP05 well over 100 times now with only some tabs breaking and paint chips, its not that hard, especially if you use Optibotimus's video as a guide.

The transformation took me nearly 30 min, but thanks to you I had someone calmly explaining what to do. This was an extremely helpful video, I think I paused and rewinded too many times to count haha. Great work Paul, keep these reviews coming!

I've been watching optibotimus for about 6 years now ever since I was 10 years old(turning 16 years old). Optibotimus was my main inspiration for becoming a collector and learning more and more about the Franchise as the years go on. When I seen this review in my recommendations my face lit up with joy considering that G1 Megatron is one of my all time favorite characters although I'll never afford this figure it looks outstanding in robot mode. Haven't even gotten close to finishing the video. I really hope we get more Mp figures it'll be amazing if in the upcoming years Takara/Hasbro manages to put out the entire G1 cast in masterpiece form.

I finally was able to pick this guy up last week and he is amazing.!!Transformation was a bit of a pain, but that was expected for what he transforms into. I 100% agree that this is the best version out there. The engineering, in my opinion, t took for this figure is genius. He has now become my favorite of the Masterpiece line. Thanks for the review. It helped me get through some of the tough parts.

Relly do like this Megatron, one of the best masterpiece designs. I just transform him twice per day.

After watching G1 again, I noticed some features that TAKARA TOMY could have added to his accessories. The spinning saw that he fired at Optimus Prime in the episode Transport to Oblivion. As well as the memory altering device he used on Bumble Bee.

Great review for a highly-anticipated figure! By the way, the Long Life Design is the award given by Good Life to the Transformers Masterpiece line last year for high quality and design.

optibotimus Guess I jumped the (Megatron) gun on that statement - but hey, all of your reviews are great, and I know that before I even finish! I knew this figure would completely excite you mainly due to the fact that you greatly value screen-accuracy, even as far as the toon-style faction symbol. And seeing you talk about this figure and transforming it really makes my day. The only thing that worries me (nothing too personal and not criticism) is when you can't get an edge because of the fingernail issue. I remember from your MP Soundwave review that you say you bite your nails, and that makes me worried because you could get paronychia as a result. You do not want to have that happen. It creates a painful pus-filled blister at the infection site, and it's not pleasant to have. Trust me, I've had it myself. I would recommend some nail-polish like product that coats your nails with a bitterant to prevent you from biting them. It will also making transforming your figures a lot easier. Anyways, love the review, love the figure, and have a happy Easter!

Excellent, in-depth review Optibotimus! I love the fact that you use the translation app to summarize the jpn text since I'm sure many of us can't read it. It seems the only bad thing about him is the price. I'm more of a Galvatron fanboy, but hopefully everyone who gets him can enjoy the definitive Megs. Happy Easter!

Awesome version of G1 Megatron. love takara's attention to detail and finding a way to maintain relative scale in robot form amongst all the line and variety of characters very well.

megatron never had all these moving parts on the show. just too much. if he did, he would lose every battle since it was take him like 10 minutes to transform.

Just put one layer of masking tape around the tip when you want to use the silencer. It works, no damage, comes off clean. Looks dumb hanging off like that when you're afraid to push it all the way.

paul.. I want to thank you for this review. just got mine yesterday and was scared to death to mess with it. you virtually held my hand step by step. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you. the engineering, quality and tightness is beyond Apollyon. it was worth every penny. I may transform it once more for my girlfriend but that's about it. that's what pictures are for.

Very good videoreview! For me is the best megatron I have seen, but some people complaint about the price and quality paint but I think its an awesome transformer!

Long Life Design is an award that the Masterpiece line won to represent how long it ran. Think of this as how long the X-Men or MCU franchises lasted long. As for Megs, I'd like to have a variant with a shiny silver paint job, a remolded neutral head with lightpiped eyes, an alternate Marvel Comics head with yellow eyes, and a handle that goes on the fusion cannon so he can hold it on his hand.

I was responding to Twisted Knight saying people who like toy accuracy have Combiner Wars Megatron, who turns into a tank, not a gun.

This was a very highly anticipated figure and it has finally been released!! I'm so excited to be picking this up online

To get the cap off you can heat the barrel with a hair drier

Wow Opti...your freaking me out with using that tool for the "Barrel section" transformation. Next time, rotate the barrel to the right and behold the magic, it just pops up and frees those side sections. So much easier, and safer!!

Great to hear you studying all those pics and totally with you and also said it on other pics comments sections, on FB, Insta and such: "If you break it, you´re doing it wrong." This guy has it all in the instructions and even if you don´t understand japanese, the pictures, perspectives and directional arrows show you EXACTLY what to do. You feel it flexing somewhere and not clicking, pegging, or moving? Better look a second, or third time, even if it´s small...there IS something wrong. Looking forward to next. Take care.

Never understood why some people thought or would think Megatron was taller then Optimus Prime. Back in the old G1 days Prime and Megatron were parallel equal to each other (Height, Size, Strength) , with the only difference between the two were their personalities.

I think the blast effect sound in the fusion canon is how it should be for Japan, in America, the sound was just a Hanna-Barbara sound effect that was tweaked around with. It’s likely the Japan import of the show didn’t have that sound because of copyright, so a new sound was put into place.

before MP36 came out in heard the DX9 Mitron looked the best. but now this one rocks. I can't wait to get this Megatron.

Wow! simply... Wow!!! I mean, how can anyone do any better for a MP Megatron?! Very impressive! As for the "possible" breakage of some of the parts, I agree with Paul, you gotta be delicate with it, it's not a toy and you shouldn't force it or you will damage it. That was a looonngg video, but worth the wait, excellent review! (Cue Megatron's evil laugh!)

use the hair blow dryer in high hot setting to remove the orange plug from the silencer. try to cover all areas around the tip. heating up a minute each area. then remove the plug.

I have this on the way from BBTS... I'm super excited but also terrified to mess with it.

Also, for those outside the USA, all toy guns must have a blaze orange cap on the end of the barrel or silencer/suppressor.

I've had him for over a week. But with my other job, i've only had 2 hours or so every night to do work on him. Which for a video that's over an hour long, you can imagine how long it took me to get it done. This weekend, i was able to do more work cause i was off. But it still took an ungodly amount of time to finish lol

Finally got this yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both orange plugs were just placed in the barrels with no glue whatsoever. Defect or feature? 😅

At 29:34, Don't use a flat knife or anything else. Just pull/rotate the gun barrel and the top halves will separate easily.

Optibotimus, I have a very hard time moving mp36 left side panel leg back in place while I was transforming it back to robot mode. Is there any solution to this problem? It seems it didn't wanna budge at all while wobbling both side panels.

I do believe that the thickness of Despotron fits better with the thickness of the Optimus Prime, but overall this fits the cartoon aesthetic and scale more....

It's been 10 years, but the wait has been worth it. Now for G1, I don't mind Megatron's gun mode. Obviously, now a days, it's goofy. A lot of people agree he should be a tank. However, I feel as if Animated, got it right, with the Osprey, like helicopter. For example, for the Autobots, most of the team consists of cars. While the leader is a truck. So for the Decepticons, the team mostly consists of jets. So the leader would be, a military helicopter.

is it my tablet or is it his camera when he shows that the hammer on the gun mode it lags at like 19:00

Thats the weirdest car I've seen

I remember MP-1 being about £80 / $100 back in the day. £170 / $230 seems way too much for this. I guess I've got to think of it as a one-off that I might not get the chance to buy after the pre-order..

The torso collapses into the waist a wee bit to fill in the gap between those grill/ab pieces (you can see at 41:33)and the waist.

Also, how much did you spend on this figure? and what would shipping look like?

I'd like to think I'm a beautiful collector. I try to watch the fatty foods, drink less beer, ect. I even go to the gym every now and again. And I love you Paul.

That transformation is real complex.... I LOVE IT! It's a real masterpiece (wink wink) and such a contrast from the regular lines' oversimplified transformations. Regardless of how effective such transformations may be, I personally prefer my transformers to be a bit of a puzzle. Anyone agree?

So if this megatron is another 3rd party offer, would you still think it is the best megatron so far?

One of the voice samples, "You will going to be my servant!", was used in Galvatron II (replacing Decepticons, transform! Transform!). "Decepticons, transform! Transform!" "Bwa ha ha ha! You despicable fools!" "Grah, I'll destroy all of you!" "Hrr, pulverize the Autobots!" "You're all pathetic!" (And yes, read these in Frank Welker's voice. In Galvatron's case, it's Leonard Nimoy (RIP).)

Was there any models made of the ships from the G1 show. I love the fact that they were purple or orange. I would love to have a model of Megatron's Starship from 'The Ultimate Doom'.

Heat the tip of the silencer up with a hairdryer and then pull with pliers. It makes it easier from what I've heard.

I suspect the fusion cannon sounds like that would be because it...might be too hard to have the more iconic THOOM sound come out of the sound box, either that or its a mistake
