Oprah has encouraged an entire generation to read. That is an excellent accomplishment.

As someone who’s entire family comes from Appalachia, and has had so many close relatives live through every stage of this book it hit hard. I resonated with the themes and have seen SO many family members endure this. In addition to the experiences of Demon, this book touches on the struggle of life in Appalachia. The coal mines, addiction, fear, and dead ended ness truly impacted me. This book touched on so many issues i’ve seen firsthand and brought them to the public stance and that is vital. I am an avid reader of Ms Kingsolver and this book made me love her even more.

My best friend is Czech, lives in Prague and I gave her a kindle. Now we read books together often. She (an eastern European) loves this book as much as I do. It crosses all cultures and barriers- as long as the reader has an open mind.

My cousin Jack chose to end his life. From the first pages of this book, I felt connected to him because this was his life. There were so many moments I feared for Demon and don't think I could have taken any other trajectory for this character. This is easily one of my most emotional reading experiences since The Shack. This book was captivating and revealing. Every single person is worthy of love and a chance.

I read Poisonwood Bible because of Oprah's book club back in 2000. It is my favourite book and i've read it four times. Just bought Demon Copperhead on Audible. Can't wait to listen!

This is by far my favorite novel this year. I would like to thank Kingsolver for highlighting issues that have tragically hit the US. The writer has managed to give readers a view of the realities of drug abuse, how anyone can so easily become addicted and how difficult it is to overcome drug abuse. I’m also very grateful to Oprah for showcasing this author and book. This is why I love literature ❤

Oprah, thank you for this interview and thank you to the four participants, and thank you to Barbara Kingsolver for the spark. I've just started reading this book and am already so engaged. You know you've got a great author when you feel and love (or not) the characters. When you feel like you are right there with them in their daily lives. Great authors and books.......what a gift. Thank you all.

"Such beautiful alchemy." Oprah is spot on here. That's the perfect word to describe what we experience when we read a great novel. It's true. It's real.

If I add anymore books to my TBR pile, I'll be arrested but I may just have to risk it and go get this book too. Wish me luck.

😂😂Ladies you should try audio books. I once got the audio and kindle version for a book. I listen on my commute to work and when I go grocery shopping. Then read before bed.

Took me a long time to get thru this, but worth it. Demon is a memorable character, a victim of his environment, of pharma, the system, coal corporations, the place he was born. But the superhero story isn’t finished till the last page, indeed. 🐄

Truly delightful! Totally captivating❣️❣️❣️ Thank you, Oprah and Barbara and the four Book club readers on the interview. I’m gonna have to read this one! I am wondering about any books that shine the spotlight on psycho tropic medication‘s being prescribed by psychiatrist to so many young people today? Depression/anxiety/ ADHD, etc.
