@@rockspoon6528 They are clean! Theres is no need to bath them, almost all animals hate this, the smell of shampoo is very unpleasant to them. It's very egoistic, you make the animal smell the way you like it, but for the animals it feels like they've been dunked in shit

Most animals love affection. Even when they are wild, and possums are smart, and similar to cats. Why shouldn't we show them kindness. They have been our friends all along, but we weren't intelligent enough to know it. They are the blue ribbon best yard cleaners.

What a good person. I had no idea they has such a short life span. I have one that comes in my yard occasionally so I do give it some food. Now that I know they don't live long,I'll give the poor baby more. They're very non confrontational and the one I have around my house runs as soon as he hears me. The biggest misconception is that they carry rabies. Only 1 in 800 will because they're body temp is too low to incubate the virus. They will come out in the day and hiss and drool as a defense mechanism so people mistake this for the disease. Many times they play dead. I only think they get aggressive if they have babies just like many other animals. So for uninformed people,please stop trapping and killing them. They're pretty harmless.

The reason they live so short is cuz it's literally hard-coded in their genes, the telomeres (endcaps of their chromosomes) degrade really quick.

Ive heard thry can actually live much longer. In the same way dogs can live to be almost 20. 90% of people mistreat their animals. Feed them shit food thats super high calorie and give them bare minimum excersize. Dogs for example are supposed to cover several miles a day.

opossums are more scare of us than we should be of them. i hate people that shoot these lil guys... i'd have one as a pet if i could in a heartbeat

Well they look sort of like giant rats, I figure that's part of why some people don't like them. Also if cornered they'll posture as though they might bite even though they're much less likely to bite than a cornered raccoon or something.

Leaping Weasel not as healthy. They need real vitamin c too like from yogurt or certain cheeses. They eat bones also for that reason along with calcium which a lack of can hurt one really bad. Mine Lome bananas

Agreed. We used to have a guinea pig (who has since passed on) that almost jumped out of a dog bath, built for a medium size dog, in an attempt to not have a bath. That was the highest I'd ever seen her jump. Guinea pigs may look like lazy water balloons with legs, but when they don't want to do something, they turn into Olympic athletes. They'll outsprint any human, jump any tub, fit into spaces that you'd never think they'd be able to

Possums are my favorite animals. Mine is three years and three months old. I love her so much!

@Sma 556 Well, originally humans only lived up to 40 years, but since we began to have better life conditions our life span increased to 80, so that's not that bad tbh.

They are very docile. Had no idea. Rescued one at my new rural WA home bc I thought it was "dangerous" and intended to call animal control. But she was sweet like lucky, and I learned they kill them. My niece named her cuddles She passed away last November. I miss her.

You're the best. Thank you for being so kind and helpful to animals. You set a great example to everyone. Thank you.

We had an opossum for a couple years. What a lovely creature it was. Raised it from a baby when we found its mother killed on the road. He was the only survivor. Great animal. They are better pets than racoons.

Opossums are awesome! They eat ticks so if you see one in your yard, they’re probably doing you and your pets a favor and saving you from Lyme disease :D

Awesome, found a baby a few mornings ago, unfortunately since i have no knowledge of how to keep it as a pet, i had to call the wild animal shelter. Although i was tempted to keep it, my schedule wouldnt allow to take time to give it the required attention.

I'd love to have one as pet but their life is so short it would really hurt me to have a pet die that soon. After becoming so attached to it. However to make up for it a little I put out bananas and other fresh fruit in a bowl every night for the opossum that shows up at my house every night. I just like to watch him eat when I get the chance.
