Probably the best knife review I’ve ever heard or watched. Superb video, with delightful voice. Thankful. I already own #6, #7, & #8. Love all three. The #6 CS is a good wood carver. Both the #7 SS & #8 SS for EDC, and food prep. Most days I would be found carrying #8 and the smallest little red Swiss Army knife. Mainly for the scissors, toothpick, tweezers, and file. Never use the little blade. Thanks again for the wonderful presentation. My wife said you speak better English than 95% of people in America. I agree.

Opinel's N°08 Jardin (Garden) knife deserves mention as their best option for everyday carry, in my opinion. 1) Thinner handle for pocket carry, but still very hand filling. 2) Spearpoint blade shape (vs slight drop point on most), which allows easier use for draw cuts on surfaces, 3) intermediate in blade thickness between the N°07 and N°08. N°07: 1.46mm. N°08 Jardin: 1.62mm. N°08: 1.76mm. For visibility, I add lanyards I coil and knot from retroreflective paracord to all my smaller knives. As I'm a strong fan of headlamps for camping and emergency use, the lanyards stand out from grass even at night.

👍 Nice over view of these 3 knives. If I carry an Opinel in town it is a No. 8; in the countryside it is the No. 9. They are great knives with excellent value. The tradition of giving money with a knife is one a friend and I have practiced as we move knives back and forth. While we have practiced this for decades neither of us know the origin of this tradition and you are one of the few other people I have heard mention it.

I found something on opinel site. Just google coin with money gift. How does it work though? You give it with gift and they give it back or they gift receiver gives you money after getting the gift?

The tradition of giving some money to the person who is giving you a knife is very old I believe you do it so that the knife doesn't cut the friendship between you and the person who's giving you the knife.

In Italy we don’t give like a present both pointed or sharp items, it will look as you put in danger your friend. That’s why your friend have to buy (even with one cent) the object

INOX (stainless steel) is good for outdoors where you or a knife can get wet, because of rust resistance. Cons - its soft and dulls faster. Carbone (XC90) is good for dry environments, with HRC 57-59 (hardness) it's great for wood carving. Specialists recommend taking #6 as a smaller blade is easier to control when making small details. Thanks for the video

My friend, when giving a knife to a friend, he or she should give You money! Not you to them It’s because you don’t want the knife to cut off the friendship. Even if it’s 1 euro, that means you sold it to them . And the friendship will last with no bad luck. Supposedly… I enjoyed your video much..

The tradition where I grew up, northern Ontario Canada, was when we would give a knife as a gift we would say we were lending them the knife with the clear understanding that it was theirs to keep.

In some cultures it is considered bad luck to give something sharp as a gift. The solution is to sell the recipient the knife. You give the knife and money together and then the lucky recipient “buys” the knife from the person giving the gift with the money.

Always have a 07 in my bag, hanging inside on a leather string. Even in an office environment one need to divide an apple, a breakfast bagel or opening copy paper boxes. Opinels are excellent since they are so very light weight and nimble to use. Weight is less than half the weight of the shoulder strap of the bag, so one does not notice it is there. Only drawback is when they are wet, the wood swells, so the blade has to be knocked out against the table. :)

If you leave the carbon blade wrapped in a vinegar soaked paper towel overnight it will force a patina. Clean it and wipe it down with oil once a month and it will never rust. I love carbon knives. My son and I both have a couple opinels.

Gifting cutlery brings bad luck (by literally you are wishing for their death with this act) in folklore so you give them money along with the cutlery which they must give you back right away as payment for the goods, so its a deal not a gift. before i knew this i gifted an expensive knife to a close friend the wrong way and she never talked to me ever again.
