He’s clearly not at the levels he used to be at, but his growls seem to have an element of consistency they haven’t had in a while. Sounds great.

I think he can still do the technique properly , he's just going lower than before. You can tell that by looking at his mouth in older performances and more recent ones.He can still do those impeccable frys he used to do though.

If you mean the quality, I totally agree. It seems like they were weak around some time in 2016 (if you listen to the live version of Drapery Falls that comes with Sorceress it's really obvious).

It's the best I've heard in a long time. He sounds on par, if not better than he did in their live DVD back in 2010.

Those "new growls" have a very different sound, thiner but darker, they feel less "human" which gives those parts a more sinister vibe, I'm starting to digging it!

It's mostly about those mid range, fry-sounding screams he stopped using that made his growling "suck" for a time. He definitely changed technique

@@Javier-il1xi His fry screams were top notch though! Best death metal vocals in my opinion.I don't know as to why he changed his technique though, but what is clear is that he can still do them, you can hear them in some parts .

@@tuddygu he does them rarely because it's clearing forcing his voice, he cannot and will never be able to do the old style (till 2007ish) constantly in a song, the damage is done. He does still sound good though, although it's a bit sad it's not like in the past.

Give the guy a break....he may not do death metal anymore but their latest album has some prog metal stuff and besides he still performs stuff from their death metal era, and he has admitted he still enjoys performing them, just not writing them anymore. Opeth's change in sound may not be for everyone, but you have to admit... These guys performing stuff from death metal to Prog rock/prog metal live puts up one hell of an interesting show and certainly showcases their versatility and talent.

I have always thought that Mike’s growls all through out his career has veen fantastic. But here, they are fuckin back to his best period! They were already amazing for the last 10 years, but this is just so freaking amazing to hear live in 2019!
