OPETH - Mikael Åkerfeldt interview @Linea Rock 2016 by Barbara Caserta
Музыка
On November 14th 2016 yours truly, Barbara Caserta, took the chance to catch up OPETH’s leader, guitarist, singer and main songwriter Mikael Akerfeldt at Alcatraz in Milano to talk about new album “Sorceress”, a true kaleidoscope of unheard soundscapes, worked in 6 months and recorded in just 12 days. Where? At Rockfield Studios, “the church” of lots of classic recordings, from Queen to Judas Priest: listen up how Mike describes the place, the enviroment is never a detail… We discussed also the contrasts within the new album’s influences, how mainly arrangements reflect the mood of the songs, the evolution in part 1 & 2 of the title track and “Persephone”, the self production tendency, Steven Wilson magic partnership, side project Storm Corrosion (and the chance of a second album plus why Mike Portnoy wasn’t involved as announced in the first one), his “OPETH it's a democracy that I control”-attitude and his great passion for jazz music and the italian prog scene of the 70s… And do you really wanna know why we laugh hard at the beginning of the interview? Well this is Opeth’s 12th album, but I got the number wrong so we had to start back 3 times… I had the correct number in my head and on the notes but for some reason I kept on saying 11th… very funny, and Mikael, which is a gentleman took it like a joke! Enjoy, Share & Comment!

So happy after decades as an Opeth fan, that Mikael decided to embrace and explore his clean singing voice. I've always loved the atmospheric aspects of the earlier albums and Damnation more than anything....just fuck yes. Love everything about the last 2 albums.

LevitatorMusic Yes Heritage, PC & Sorceress are superior to any of their growled records, which is such a gift to the fans
Complimenti per l'intervista. La conversazione era molto piacevole, informativa ed approfondita. La loro musica merita niente di meno. Grazie e auguri. Alla prossima.
16:12 And so the beetle's journey begins! Fun to watch, actually. And a bit distracting. :D
Great questions made a great interview :) I got at least 5 musicians to listen to and discover :D

Thanks so very much!! ;-)
Great that he's into jazz! I always thought he was a fan judging by his playing. His own journey is reminiscent of how I discovered it. I remember I got Kind of Blue years ago because of my own burgeoning interest in jazz and it instantly became one of my favorite records. And so I went and discovered all the other players that Miles played with, starting with Bill Evans, who I reckon is one my favorite musicians in general. And got My Favorite Things and some others by Coltrane. I think I know what Akerfeldt is talking about with him. He completely annhilates a soprano saxophone in some of the stuff I've heard which is difficult to listen to at times. I read that Coltrane wrote and recorded material by literally locking himself in his room and didn't come out for days at a time, just writing. Then he'd just go into a trance or something while playing. Oh, and Weather Report - Heavy Weather, 1978, which I'd bet my left nut that he already has in his collection. A jazz fusion cornerstone.
Really good interview!!
Amazing interview!!

Should have let Wilson remix it. The record could sound so much better if it wasn't so compressed.

the compression doesn't grind my gears as much as the badly mixed lows. I literally have to cut almost all lows out in order to listen to the album with my speakers.

I think it’s inevitable that he will remix it. It’s a shame that such a great record has been marred by terrible mixing.
Bella l'intervista, ma quanto vino gli avevate dato prima di cominciare?
24:15 what band is this ?? I can't make out what he says lol

Strange Brew sounds like something off of Il Paese Dei Balocchi's album.

The name of the italian prog band mentioned is "IL PAESE DEI BALOCCHI"
Listening to him and watching his mannerisms reminds me of a Swedish Dave Grohl lol.
2:07 lol not your fault?
what i dont like is that they are stuck playing the same sorceress songs live; sorceress, the wilde flowers or will o the wisp, they have all the other songs there, and they dont "use " them.
He looks terrible here. I’m glad he’s doing better these days. He was very stressed out during this period due to getting divorced.
