Never been a big fan of growlers, but this guy is incredible. I had never really given Opeth a chance, but this band is incredible. New fan here. Thanks for the reaction.

​@@Dway2kill It's hard to say Bloodbath is his second band. It's side project of guys from Katatonia and Mikael sang on two albums only and last one was released in 2008 with him as the vocalist. Now for last three albums Nick from Paradise Lost is the vocalist.

Opeth is simply on another level of musicianship composition and are completely in tuned with their emotions..their art is simply superb..

Opeth crew is just as amazing as the band. I give extra props to Magnus who manage the light show. Some is pre programmed but most of it is done manually by him.

Watching people process this song in real time is fun.

Wasn´t aware you had made this! Great! Glad Aaron was around this time, Axe is a beastly drummer.

At first you were like a group of misbehaved kids just fooling around until you listened the first growling and you were like "o_o". I loved it!

So many songs to recommend: Blackwater Park is a must, Closure (Live) from Shepards Bush, Deliverance, Hex Omega, Harlequin Forest, Masters Apprentice, When, Drapery Falls. Get busy!

I'm in my late 30s and this album came out when I lived in Germany. It was such a huge album when it came out in the metal community. Such a fantastic band and Mikael is one of the best growlers of all time. If you want to check out more of his stuff, check out Bloodbath - Eatan.

the higher octave on the "slow" part is actually the vocal doing it. Him and the keyboard player start doing the same note, and when they change it up, it's the singer that's doing the higher note.

The thing about it for me too is that Akerfeldt’s growl is even way better on the recording. It was always my favourite thing about their metal, it’s so compelling it’s insane.

BTW, the keyboard players name is Joakim Svalberg. Uses a lot of old gear like mellotron with Opeth.

Man.. I don't like "death metal" or "growl rock" but when you hear this guy live... *purrr* I just saw them in Tallinn (14.09.2022) when they started theyr latest tour. Man ... Small club (for Opeth)... Such .. such great concert. xD I'm pretty sure that the "Best Channel In The Universe" has the entire concert in KZreads...

You guys should check out The Drapery Falls at Shepherd's Bush. Mikael at his prime.

Well... Deliverance (2002) isn't much older than Ghost of Perdition (off of Ghost Reveries from 2005)

There is no raised 7th in that vocal run. It is all natural minor. In the next phrase, the vocals outline A7 altered chord (A-G-C#-F), which is part of D melodic minor. Which has the raised 7th but also a raised 6th. IE, this is not phrygian, its melodic minor. The phrygian mode has a minor 6th.

Do Blackwater park next.
