@@emreertem8345 Yes, but imagine if he played it live in the 90s when he could still hit the high pitched harsh screams, damn that would be so epic, like you have the mid 90s versions of ''In the Mist She Was Standing'' with those kind of vocals? Wow, that'd be so epic.

Their main roadie just after the 12 minute mark, with his coffee and smile ear to ear watching the crowd enjoy this passage just as much as he clearly does. You can tell their road guy misses Pre-Heritage Opeth just like so many of us. He has that nostalgia ridden smile written all over his face :D

How they can go from absolute beautiful harmonies to death metal are both are separate but together and absolutely magnificent. And they had traces of black metal in their sound but not to the point of sounding like it is all BM. Just how the bass didn't get completely buried in the mix is a miracle. And you know a band is special when a song is better enjoyed live than in the album.

30 years can do a lot to a man's voice, specially when he stopped doing them 15 years ago (damn, I feel old). And his growls and screams seem to have recovered some strength, because I remember back in 2015 or 16 when they performed in Wacken, his growls were the weakest they had ever been. At some points in this performance, it did sound like he was still in 1996.

The original had this exact same pause. They even added the water sound just so you remember the studio version. Yes, they made it a bit longer but that is not damaging the performance at all.

this song would be much cooler if Mikael could growl like he did in the 2000s

By the way his growls are still remarkable imo. A bit closed but much consistent. The way that he bends his voice, alternating between being the Jesus and a demon is just pure magic. Just take a look at 20:28, what a great control on that low cleans. They are Incredible musicians and one of the best bands ever in the history of metal. This was my third time watching them. It only gets better.

His growls got a lot better recently. Maybe he has been using a “healthier” technique and now got used to it. His growls in the early days, however, was just too unique. For me Opeth lost their charm when Mikael lost it. His clean got much better though. I kinda wish they would play To Bid You Farewell instead of this. Just imagine how great it will sound. Still, Mikael is a remarkable vocalist. I doubt anyone in the metal scene could sing both growls and cleans as well as he did.

Bro this is crazy….I was thinking of this the other day. And how I love this song and they never played it live and how in that one clip he played a riff from it and said “i forgot the rest” 🤣 love them for taking the time to relearn such an epic song. Beautiful …..can’t believe I missed them when they were here in Chicago. Stupid covid and all the rules, drama about the vaccine, and testing made me not want to go. Hope you had fun!! I love them I can’t wait to see them one day live. Best band ever easily!!!
