You can think of it as negative 3 plus negative 4. If you use a number line to check (subtract, so you move LEFT), you get -7.

It's a short cut. Subtraction is addition of the opposite. So subtracting a positive is the same as adding a negative. The short cut is to pretend the subtraction operation is the same as the negative sign. So long as you know it's a short cut, it's okay to do.

1.if your two number have the same sign add them and keep the sign 2. if your two numbers have different signs subtract and used the sign of the larger number wow i wish your mah teacher

Number 5 is wrong, it's just 30. -5 x 2 = -10 and then -10 x -3 = 30

@@UltimateAlgebra and Jahara Ontong, instead of writing -10 - -3=, we could do -10- [-3]= -7 to stop the confusion to getting -13. Because -10 - -3 could be mistaken to adding -10 + -3= -13, (keeping the sign). The answer is -7 with the help of grouping
