@@johnkonrad5040 I was there Nov 2004 & don't recall any significant use of WP lol. Also, there weren't a lot of "civilians" in Fallujah by then; the PsyOps encouraged anyone that considered themselves to be non-combatant to leave (we even provided temporary food & shelter until ops were concluded to those that left); vehicles on certain hardballs & ANY vehicle near intersections were instructed to move, if the vehicle was valued; we made it VERY clear nearly 4 weeks out that "we're coming soon... save what's important to you & leave the town (small city) if you don't want to fight". Just like an impending hurricane, sure there were hangers-on ("this is my home, I'm not leaving" sorts of deals and we knew / respected that as best we could in such conditions), but indeed, "war is all hell" and we did what we could preemptively so that it'd be a tight fight only with those we needed to focus on. Our experience was exactly that: those that remained wanted to fight; fight's on, indeed.

Between providing top overwatch and monitoring blocks, closing bridges & running TCPs in/out of the city, going in to retrieve, then exfil wounded, and coordinating TACAIR... idk man, but it was "something" lol. Because Strykers are generally quiet, there were plenty of gun runs up & down the streets to perform patrol-to-contact, but it turns out after 18 hrs a day fighting USMC, 0230 recons were generally quiet; I guess they were tired or something lol. In any case, I don't recall ever dismounting until the city was "under control" (which meant there were still plenty of fights still going on, but the masses had been chilled).
It’s weird watching a historical montage of footage that I remember when it was breaking news. I can only imagine what my grandfather felt like. I’m 32.
I remember when those 82nd Airborne guys were posted there and an incident happened in which civilians were killed and wounded back in April 2003. Everything went down hill after that and the Insurgency there was kicking up against the US and Coalition Forces. To this day we still don't know why the Higher Ups at Blackwater USA at the time sent in just only 4 SC into a hostile city when US Forces did a complete withdrawal of the city back in early March.

@johnkonrad5040

@@soarabove337 Look buddy, all I can say is that PsyOps encouraging, doesn't always mean able. I don't know what role you played, but WP happened, the Army acknowledges it's use as an incendiary. There's a reason why higher-ups didn't want the thing in the first place.
It's shocking to see the stark difference in outcomes between Iraq and Afghanistan. Iraq has certain societal foundations that Afghanistan does not. It should be marked as a huge accomplishment to the Iraqi people to build a society back up after its dissolution to the point where they can retake a major city from insurgents. The second day has us pinned in a small alleyway for a couple hours because of a sniper that was actually really god damn good.
