Damn I miss Kobe. Every young player in the league today lost that day, they lost a father figure, a grandfather figure, a role model, a man that probably wasn't even halfway into his professional life, we were all robbed of watching what Kobe might've become.

I still think that Kobe basically created the 2003 class we know today. They found a gear that they didn't know existed. They learned what it took. After 2008, they became professionals. Taking the game seriously and working hard became not only cool, but expected when shooting for the top spot.

He basically showed them what it takes to become winners. Almost everyone in that roster became title contenders and champions (except for a few but that was because of injury ending careers) I hate it when everyone says Kobe only won the first three because of Shaq, not entirely true because Kobe was scoring 25-30 alongside Shaq. I like to think of it this way, without either their three peat would never happen.

I love that fire in Kobe’s eyes, I’m drawn to people that have that, my youngest son has it. I tell him to have that Mamba mentality in everything you do, he’s only six but he gets it and it shows. Kobe is gone in the physical but when I look into my son’s eyes and every one else’s eyes with that fie, I know Kobe is still here with us and sometimes I shed a few, but I’m smiling regardless.

It all started at the 2002 Indianapolis World Championship, playing at home but unfortunately in an empty arena, showing that the public didn't support their team much. Even though it may be forgotten now, there were great players and NBA champions there, like Ben Wallace, Paul Pierce, Reggie Miller, Michael Finley, Jermaine O'Neal, and Andre Miller. The United States lost no less than three games in the tournament, having previously won all their international matches since '92 with NBA stars.
