my childhood was filled with misery and pain so when I was watching this it took my pain away from the violence that was going on from the world i grew up the housing projects southeast d.c. was rough so watching cartoons was a must for me as a kid.

When G1 Transformers first hit, there were two toys every kid wanted: Optimus Prime for the Autobots, and Soundwave for the Decepticons. People's mileage may have varied on which characters they loved the most, but _no_ kid was ever disappointed to find Prime or Soundwave under the tree!

Soundwave was the first Transformer I got. I asked my dad for change everyday and saved up and bought it myself. I bought it for under $15 from Consumers.

I actually believe, the character and especially the voice of Soundwave gave The Transformers an edge over Challenge of the Gobots. How many Gobot voices were considered 'Cool'? Coptor perhaps? Dunno. I used to sit there glued to the tv waiting for two things... Megatron transforming and Soundwave speaking. Another wonderful production. Thanks Michael! Love from Perth.

Brings back memories. I had the g1 soundwave and loved playing with it and the cassette but my mother threw it away when I went to college. Kids always tell your parents which toys you want to keep.

On sound waves voice. I've always found it fascinating that the Claw/Soundwave voice is the one Welker later used for Transformers Prime Megatron. It all comes full circle.

Soundwave became Decepticon leader twice in Marvel UK continuity. The first time when Megatron and Shockwave were missing during the Crisis of Command and Dinobot Hunt storylines and in the future after Galvatron, Cyclonus and Scourge were in the present and Shockwave was killed by Death's Head. He was also the letters page host in the UK comic between issues 22-73 (except issue 41 when Ratchet did one issue) called Soundwaves.

Soundwave is indeed superior.

Soundwave is probably the best Masterpiece figure ever. Prime has had three MPs by now, but they nailed Soundwave so perfectly on their very first attempt that he still holds up to this day.

Yes the Great Soundwave voiced by the Great Frank Welker!!!!! "All Talk No Shock" the Great battle of Soundwave vs Blaster in Season 2 of G1 TF cartoons.

The look, the voice, the character... Soundwave was not only my favorite Decepticon, but my favorite Transformer as a whole. Probably, boosted by my love of music; which would replace Transformers and GIJoe's as my primary shopping targets, in the future. Like Destro of that aforementioned other Hasbro line, I loved how he wasn't the primary antagonist; but, was often the most capable, and dangerous, of his faction. I loved his lil' minions, and their loyalty to him (Ravage was SO friggin' cool!). I loved the ingenuity in the design of the toy (G1), with the batteries being the weapons. I was even okay with, the man hell-bent to destroy my childhood, Michael Bay's version of him being a satellite. He was, and still is, one of (if not #1) my favorite toys and characters from my childhood.

Truly one of the most iconic characters in the franchise!

I remember as a kid growing up in the 80’s I always wanted a Soundwave but never got one. All through the 80’s & 90’s during my teenage years going into Twenties I would have a dream about getting a Soundwave only to wake up and realize I didn’t have one. Still in 2000’s I still had the dream every once and a while. In 2014 I finally got an MP-13 and I have never had that dream of finding one in a store since.

Ah, yes, "The Toy Store Dream"! The one where you're in a toy store surrounded by every toy you've ever wanted or imagined -- some of which never actually existed -- and just as you're about to reach out and take your "Holy Grail" off the shelf, or just as you get to the checkout with your overflowing shopping cart . . . you wake up, realise it was all just a dream, and you feel inexplicably DEVASTATED. When I was a kid, i thought I was the only one who had that dream. When I got into university, several of my other collector friends admitted they used to have it -- or continued to have it right up to today. I wonder how common it really is?

That was a very enjoyable and thorough 27 minutes of my all time favorite Transformers character. Loved how you put the cartoon bumpers around the commercial breaks. Very nice nostalgic touch.

Soundwave seems to gave been firsts for many kids at the time, he was my first TF as well and because my brother and I didn't like sharing our toys my mom had to buy a Soundwave for each of us at a Mervyns and I remember my mom then peeling the sticker price off the box so that my dad wouldn't know how much they cost, LOL.

I've loved Soundwave since I first saw, but I may like his cat bot Ravage just as much they both get so much character just put into them in certain universes and they also get cool redesigns with new alt modes.

This is....INCREDIBLE!!! I have been wanting to see a Transformers history video dedicated for Soundwave for some time now, and this is beyond what I had imagined such a video might look like. Thank you very much Michael Mercy! Keep on being amazing.

I used to have a fully transforming fully functional KO Sound Wave, It had an AM radio. After a quick search, it might have been the Tai-Fong "Robotic Radio". I thought it played tapes, but looking at it, I remember the stupid handle-head, so unless there was another one that had a radio and tape deck, that was it

Hey, Michael. I recently got the 40th anniversary reissue G1 Soundwave today. He has the cartoon color scheme and he came with Laserbeak and Ravage. Finally! I have one of the best G1 transformers toys!

Thanks! Never gave him much thought aside from his Sunbow run but he's had a pretty prolific run.

As usual brother amazing content and you covered everything that made soundwave a household name to us kids who grew up with amazing content during the 1980s. This entire franchise was handled with care and tact. The toys mad an immediate impact back in the day and they are in the top five collectibles to this day

4:45, I agree. Almost everyone I knew who had megatron had his arms break so everyone used soundwave as the leader. Soundwave and the 3 initial seekers in the first year of toys. Sadly for me the red cassette and ravage were the ones I never could find in the shops. I looked for years and had dreams about finding them but never did in my childhood. When ebay first came out one finally came out in a transformers lot and I paid £258 for the whole lot just to get him. I know have a reissue of him in a box. So I got him in the end. I think he may of been a japanease original as the lot also came with a headless blue lazerbeak.

The thing I miss about Transformers figures these days is they aren't household items anymore, they're always cars or planes or space ships nowadays. I'd be happy if they would release something like Soundwave that could actually pass for everyday items. 🤷‍♂️

You have the OG Soundwave and all his cassettes????? I bow to you like Garth and Wayne: *I'M NOT WORTHY!* I wasn't a collector of action figures, but about 2 or 3 years ago, I happened to walk by the toys aisle at Walmart and saw Optimus and Soundwave in some Netflix packages and *HAD* to pick them up. Found out later that they were Walmart exclusives and a collector's nightmare to find. Glad I got him. He and Blaster have always been my 2 fave Transformers...and I finally got Blaster a year later to pair them up for some epic 80s dance and beat box music battle🤣. Great video! ...but I thought Shockwave was Megatron's righthand-bot?

I always wanted Soundwave. I never got him. Lots of my classmates did so I got to play with all the rad things he could do.

Excellent video! Thank you! Soundwave is easily my favourite Transformer; an amazing character and a spectacular toy. I have a large chunk of the items you mentioned, but I think I may sell off most of them in the near future. Definitely keeping the better ones, though. Seems like most toy lines from the 1980s had that one insanely awesome bad guy minion who ended up being way better value for money than just about any figure toy in the line. Off the top of my head, Masters of the Universe had Trap Jaw, G.I. Joe had Zartan, and Transformers, of course, had Soundwave.

I like to call the Japanese Trilogy "gibberish transformers". And it's the only gibberish I allow ANYWHERE in my bedroom

Man, Soundwave was one of the coolest transformers, despite his cassetteplayer form. His physical robot form, colorscheme, that big shouldercanon and offcourse that awesome robot voice. Add Ravage and Laserbeak to the mix and bam, one hell of a Transformer. Soundwave was way cooler than his boss Magnetron.

When I was a kid my friend around the corner had sound wave. I had some Transformers as well but I don't remember which ones.

Because Robot Paradise's Acoustic Wave is one of the best Soundwaves ever released. And how do you have all of your Transformers in such great condition? They look new!

I have a reissue of the g1 soundwave toy. I even got both his 1984 cassetcon two packs.

My favourite figures of Soundwave are 1. Fans Toys unlicensed Acoustic Wave 2. MP Soundwave 3. OG G1 Soundwave.

Imo anything after gen3 doesnt exist. Soundwave is by far the coolest Transformer. His voice is so epic. Wish theyd do a voicebox or something so i can mimic his voice.

I went at least twice a week to Toys'r'us trying to get the masterpiece version. Much to the annoyance of my wife. Never grabbed it, and still mad I didn't. I was able to find all the other Masterpiece releases. The one that got away. At least for retail.

24:48 sounds like a WWE segment that used to make me laugh. Kurt Angle promoting his t shirt I have done so much at the back I had to put and many more. Soundwave has always been a cool figure. Megatron looks better with Soundwave next to him.

I have the Walmart reissue, the Toys R Us Masterpiece with 5 cassettes, and the Walmart Netflix War for Cybertron that becomes his earth mode. Also Rumble is purple Frenzy is red and black. Also i was able to take out that yellow translucent eye visor in my Masterpiece version and spray paint it red so he has red eyes
