You don't throw your knife. As one of my mentors and close working partner of my dad's, once instructed me, "Never throw your knife. You are just arming your enemy." He was OSS behind German lines and actually killed a few sentries with a knife. Dear old dad, both men of legendary status, was no slacker, either. I have personally seen many a man killed with a knife, none thrown. Stabbed through the neck, kidney, or heart.

God made all people from one man, Adam. All people are brothers. Unfortunately, the lying and corrupt clirgy is silent about this. They even bless racists and nazis in the name of God. The problem is that the Devil rules the world. He is a liar and a murderer. This is why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why people cry over stray cats and hate their brothers. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom. That's why we have the Gospel about the Kingdom of God. Jehovah will put everything in order. He has anointed the king, Jesus Christ. The dead will rise and we will meet our loved ones again! :-)

Directed by Richard Conte. This could have been a great film, but it's clearly limited budget shows throughout the film. This must have been something Richard really wanted to do but for some reason, he could not get any major studio to back it. Very nice Spanish set location, but such poor quality filming on every level. You could even see the helicopter backwash on the salt marsh closeups on the water surface as the men ran across them. On par with the spaghetti westerns coming out of Italy at the time. Like all actors, even great ones, you are only as good as your director, film crew and editors. Behind every successful star performance is top-notch production, film and directing excellence. Even Conte is not immune to that fact. Still worth watching to see Richard's attempt to show this fascinating, little known regional theater of war in the greatest struggle for freedom the world has ever known.

The trouble was the German Navy unlike Japan, was never a really powerful force to be beckon considering how they nearly always got beaten by the Royal Navy in surface to surface action. Germany didn't have aircraft carriers and a powerful naval air arm on land and at sea that could have stopped Allied convoys in both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean while at the same time, protecting its own shipping lanes in the North Sea, the English Channel, and in the Mediterranean and could have prevented or stopped the invasion of North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France. Kidnapping the admiral was a waste of time because of the reasons I had mentioned because, despite the admiral's military skills, his organization was not up to par. It would have been an exercise in futility if the admiral had tried to stop the Sicily invasion.

Great film and locations. A shame they make the good guys lose so many men though, virtually decimated. Also a shame the German lady's Eagle wasn't either on her right chest and/or if SS, on her mid left sleeve, even though the male German uniforms were pretty good.

Well, they always make the Germans lose a lot of men in American and European films and TV series. In this movie, they wipe out the Germans guarding the oil refineries, nearly wipe out the German prison garrison, nearly wipe out the German unit that was waiting for the lieutenant's landing party, and wipe out the German Admiral's small garrison. "A shame they make the good guys lose so many men though, virtually decimated." Well, as Colonel Hessler told his men in the 1965 movie Battle of the Bulge, the price of victory is never cheap. I agreed with you about them not paying attention to details about the German female uniform.

Well if it’s free it’s still worth watching as a tribute to those real life commandos and partisans who fought, and lived in fear of being caught. This was a automatic death sentence, when the Geheime Staatspolizei, abbreviated AKA Gestapo were finished with you! The forgotten hero’s of the clandestine wars should have been made into many more films?

It wasn't better when the Russians got their hands on any remaining partisans who were not Communists or were not Communists enough after the war was over in Eastern, Southern, and Central Europe. Of course, the Americans had no love for Communist partisans in Western Europe and Italy and fought to prevent them from being elected to office after the war even though Americans claim to support democracy abroad but doesn't allow other political parties to grow and participate in its own "democratic" system

Along the Adriatic coast of Croatia you will find places like that. They are called salanas, and some go back over 2000 years. They enclose a quantity of salt water, and when it evaporates, the salt content remains. A litre of water contains around 35 grammes of salt, and the term salary comes from the Latin word sal, or salt in English. It was used as payment. Next question?

Too bad when this was made they were not aware of all the silenced weapons available to commandos, and such of that era, although in an impromptu sort of spur-of-the-moment mission like this one, they likely would not have had access to such weapons, which leaves me to wonder just how they would have proceeded.

Within the first few minutes of the film these “commandos” made enough noise to awake the whole garrison, and buying an oil storage facility it would have been guarded very very well, and yet two guards managed to walk past one of them, pretending to be one of the guards they had so noisily dispatched, with his face blacker than a coal miner’s, and it broke a cardinal rule of camouflage, it was shining so well it was almost a second moon 🌙. Ok, now going to watch and see how many other glaring mistakes are in this film. Standby. Now I am more confused, one minute the remaining guys had lit the signal fires for the exfil aircraft and the next they are on a fishing boat, then paddling up an inlet with rice paddies as background, and when they were onshore and hiding in the rushes the did not hear 👂 the Germans charging through them like a herd of elephants 🐘, how, how didn’t they hear 👂 the Germans?????!!!!!!!, and wearing a bright orange neckerchief is stupid, unless it was a visual signal to the Germans that he was a traitor, or maybe he had a death wish. I stand corrected, salt fields, not rice paddies And whoever heard of sailors wearing “whites” in the field, stood out like a very very sore thumb, and they turned out to be friendlies!!!!!!???? OK, my mistake, it was two different groups, and neither have any real tactical brains 🧠.

Nobody using a colt 45 extends their middle or ring finger off the grip; they keep a tight grip so they can control the pistol when they need to shoot it. An interesting story anyway.

Same with Rory Calhoun as a sergeant since he was about 46 years old at the time the movie was made. In the song 19 by Paul Hardcastle, the average age of the American soldier was about 26 years old and being in your late 20s as a pilot was also considered old; however, as time went on, the American Air Force was taking in people at age 35 and sending them to flight school.

You have various ethnic, political, and even religious groups fighting each other during that time period in both Europe and Asia. What freedoms? You have the rise of various right-wing fascist groups in the last few years in places like Greece, Spain, France, and even in the former Communist countries. You have European right-wing politicians who seem to want to dismantle the social, political, and economic safety nets that were implemented before and after the war and adopted American style business practices and American unregulated capitalism that led to the Great Depression and has caused economic recessions and depressions for the last 41 years especially 4 of them that have occurred in only 20 years of the 21st century. You had Central and South America being treated like colonies by the American corporations and the ordinary people in those areas didn't get anything out of it except hunger, poverty, and the threat of being tortured and/or being killed if they had spoken out.

This film is based in Serbia and has a number of good local actors. One point you might notice is the high death rate and a lot of the good guys get hammered. The story is complicated as there are two moles, with one mole for each side. Only at the end is all revealed. At one point our side is dressed up as monks but this does not fool the Nazis. Another guy is dressed up as a sheep and is more successful. I would say this is a big budget film as a lot happens but with the course of time it has disappeared.

@@toner5709 If you knew how many people the Serbians have killed in order to get an access to the sea which they still don't have... Even Montenegro, which is ethnically Serb, split from Serbia in 2006 due to a difference in political culture. In order to enhance his image abroad, Yugoslav dictator Tito, who died in 1980, invited movie stars to shoot films in the country he ruled over. Many war stories, including several not supposed to have taken place there, were staged in Tito's Yugoslavia to take advantage of the subsidies.
