OpenSCAD: Modify an existing 3D model (STL) with code

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video demonstrates how to modify an existing STL file using OpenSCAD. Sometimes you need to make some tweaks to a model, and you don't have the original design files. It only takes a single line of code to import, and you are good to use all the power of OpenSCAD to change whatever you want.

⭐ Parts
• M3-0.5 thread Heat-set inserts (short): amzn.to/40UtGCC
- I used this short version in this video.
• M3-0.5 thread Heat-set inserts (long): amzn.to/48M2glF
- I'm listing the long version as well because it is nice to have both sizes on hand.
I've had good luck with the initeq brand of heat-set inserts in the links above. I like how they are tapered slightly at the bottom, and that the top that is flush with the plastic is a nice full circle. Some other brands us a sort of star shape that looks less clean in my opinion.

    I should have mentioned that if you want to SUBTRACT from an imported STL model, you can put the import() as the first line in a call to difference(). Example: difference() { import("SomeModel.stl"); ...shapes to subtract... }
