The 1931 intro tune is a “jazzy” version of the song “Get Happy”, which was a hit single the year prior. You may know that song if you’re a Judy Garland fan. She sings it in the 1950 film musical Summer Stock.

The first one was from the Rudolph-Ising era. The second was after and featured the first bullseye. The third was common throughout the Golden Age of Looney Tunes, and the last was from the Dark era, which was also used from Looney Tunes cartoons from 1963-1969, even from Warner Bros- Seven Arts.

I agree. That version was by far the snazziest and most exciting, and I think Stalling erred in changing it after that. The 1945-54 version feels so tepid in comparison.

The 1954-55 season was a weird one as both arrangements were used interchangably for the LT/MM entries released in this period.

At the time the Merrie Melodies were given an better budget compared to the Looney Tunes plus it was more prestigious of the 2.

For the original opening to “Flowers For Madame” (1935), were the blue ring titles used, a three-strip Technicolor version of the curtain titles, or something different?

The opening at 45:50 is from 1962 with Jones' Now Hear This. They made the different opening and closing to go with the abstract feel of the cartoon.
