In this video I take you on a tour of my new aesthetics clinic! This is a private clinic that I have set up to offer injectable cosmetic treatments. I love this part of my job as a doctor - it's totally different from what I do in my 'day job' as an A&E doctor, but I get just as much enjoyment out of it as I help patients in a different way.

About me:
My name is Sarah, I'm a junior doctor in the NHS. I am a locum doctor in a busy Emergency Department in a trauma centre and I run an aesthetics business privately. I have far too many clothes for someone who lives in scrubs and workout gear 90% of the time and I occasionally show some of my outfit ideas on this channel.

    Hey Sarah . Just found your channel. Been loving all the content. Congrats on your career in aesthetics. As someone looking to get into aesthetics myself just wanted to ask if you did a formal course like a level 7 or a foundation course before starting ? Do you feel a course is required ? Thankyou for your advice and good luck with everything :)

    Slightly off topic but huge congrats on your new home!! Haha my jaw dropped when I saw how STUNNING your property is and the amount of outdoor space you have 🎉 all your hard work with the locum shifts definitely paid off and hopefully you're new business runs super smoothly too 🤞 Does is take much longer for you to travel to work as the setting of your old home and new home definitely are different haha this gives much more of a countryside vibe!!

    Also yes!! I think that plain wall in front of the chair would be PERFECT for a big logo of your company, it would give the room a really professional touch too and establish it as the room for your business! I agree with the other comments a couple plants would be really nice for the room too, would it be worth adding a clock somewhere in the room too?

    Looking good! One thing I thought of and maybe it's nothing much I don't know what the rules are in UK, so forgive me if I'm wrong I'm only trying to help, but what about the carpet? Is it OK for it to be in your clinic? Shouldn't there be tile or something else that can be disinfected if needed? Let's say you drop a needle with blood on it. See what I'm getting at? It might be tricky to disinfect a carpet.

  • @SarahNicholls

    @SarahNicholls

    Yes totally agree about the carpet. I cleaned and disinfected it all before I had any patients and I'm saving up to get hard floor put it. It was be much easier to keep clean and I think it will look better too!

    Nice video Sarah! I love the bare brick section and the visible joists 😍 Definitely nicer than a plain white super clinical looking room. I was wondering, have you thought about doing a video all about the logistics of locum work? Or is it as simple as you get offered shifts and either accept or decline them?

    Love the idea of running your business from home! I was gonna say that you can add another plant on the window sill? Something like an ivy or spider plant or a cactus? But a reed diffuser works well too! I got one from Aldi that's not too over powering.

    Putting a large frameless mirror on the wall sounds good. nothing more exciting than looking and examining their face before any treatment to be done. I think I generally lose the track of time when looking at my face in the elevator (or lift) till it reached the floor I want to be on. Always enjoy watching your youtube

    congratulations on opening your new aesthetics clinic. It looks very nice. however I think I would not be comfortable to go to a clinic set up in someones private home. But that is just my opinion. Maybe that's just because it is not common in my area for a doctor to have their clinic at their private residence. Its rather what nails artists or hairdressers do here. Interesting to learn about cultural differences even in Europe.

    I'm so disappointed in seeing this Sarah - I really thought you were a serious doctor? - one of the first things they ask you in Medical school interviews is why you want to do Medicine - I'm sure if I had said to them it is to earn as much money as I can by doing cosmetic beauty treatments to rich people they would of showed me the door. Indeed there are doctors doing this type of thing but you are better than this Sarah. It is a free country and we all have our perspectives on life so I wish you all the best.

  • @SarahNicholls

    It's interesting to hear that you are disappointed to see this. I have been interested in business, cosmetics and aesthetics for a long time. I've been doing private practice for nearly 2 years now, and care about the wellbeing of my pateints in clinic just as much as I do about the patients in the Emergency Department. I love doing cosmetic work just as much as my emergency work! If you've seen other vlogs of mine, you may have heard me talking about having a business throughout medical school where I sold paintings online to fund my studies. I also have a homeware online shop. And a KZread channel. No one has ever criticised me for this. None of it impacts my ability to be a good doctor and do right by my patients, but it's always interesting to hear that people have such a strong opinion about doctors doing cosmetic work. I think it's important that people having cosmetic treatments have them performed by a trained medical person rather than a beautician with very little grasp of the anatomy or contraindications. I firmly believe that we should live the lives we want to, regardless of the opinions of others. Having multiple interests and being creative outside of work is a good thing and we should be encouraging people to do what makes their heart sing, whether it's creating businesses, playing the banjo or learning to tightrope walk! Please try not to judge people too harshly. We are humans first and our profession is second.
