I am not an AI news channel. And there is a lot of great coverage already on what went down at one of the most significant events in AI space. What I am interested is the impact it will have on businesses, startups, investors and people who don't know what API is.
API stands for Application Programming Interface. In the context of APIs, the word Application refers to any software with a distinct function. Interface can be thought of as a contract of service between two applications. This contract defines how the two communicate with each other using requests and responses.

Is there any need for developers anymore? I bet a 6 months programming certificate is enough to train anyone to be as effective as today's senior Devs.

Wait….API stands for something other than API?
Still in a fun key, I'm seeing this a bit like the Mandelbrot joke: When Benoit B. Mandelbrot was asked what the "B" in his name standa for, he supposedly replied: "For Benoit B. Mandelbrot, of course!" Maybe the "A" from API stands for API 🤔

There's no allowance for the API, but it's relatively cheap to experiment. You may be able to get $5 for free, which is enough to use the playground to do 100-200 queries or to get 10 summaries of 50 page novels. If you use GPT-3.5 it goes 10x as far. It gets expensive quickly if other people use your service to access OpenAI.
