Open Stance Cures “The Shanks”

Too good to be true? Not when you choose an intentionally open set-up.

very similar to marcus edblad swing, His is open ,ball back a bit has a controlled draw, his is the closest to my own swing. In the passed I have always used an open stance with my short game, wedges, pitching and 9 i. , now after watching Marcus I can do driver as well. Thanks, TOSA, for explaining it as you do.

I have been flirting with the open stance for a couple of years and now I am convinced it is the best way to consistently strike the ball.

Kind of a unique idea and I’ll try it as I developed a level 10 case just yesterday.

Lets see a match between this guy and Jim Veneto. Open stance vs closed stance. All golf instructional videos have no opposition. This would be proof of what works for me.

My friend noticed my feet are aimed way right while my club is faced towards the target and when I did line up correctly even a little open it felt like I was aimed way left. Going to be weird getting my body used to it but the shanks have got me bad this year coming across the ball really bad I wonder if this is part of the reason

You know, with all of the crap on YT, "open stance academy" is a bit refreshing. lol Good lesson. So question...regarding the driver. How do you reconcile ball position with the longer clubs with the open stance?

Good question. I think you set up just as far forward as normal as I have worked with open stance a lot over the years. It's tougher for driver. 6 thru PW and wedges are easy to hit open stance but driver I have issues with it. I close it sometimes and open it other. Never stand square to target. It sucks.

I move my ball position forward. The length of the club delays its squaring, so I want to give it more time. A flatter plane does the same thing. We can choose either path and get to the same destination. Thanks for you comment. BTW, I’ve created a BitChute channel now that YT wants ownership of all video. Stop by. JW

I can set up wide open or dead closed and NEVER hit a shank! You must understand swing path! Without swing path knowledge, an open or closed stances, potentially have the dreaded shank results!!! TRUST ME! PH D. IN THE FIELD OF THE SHANK!! I hit them for 30yrs. Now 67, I have the best swing of my golf career and weep for those hitting shanks.

I learned nada from this video. But the open stance does work for 6 thru wedges. However. Explain to us the open stance and how to keep the face from shutting down and hooking with driver and open stance. It kills me

If the club is on the target plane, the trailing elbow will do its job. If we make a full turn, it’s easier to get there.

@@theopenstanceacademy487 I have where irons work well for open stance. 7 thru PW. But anything over that including driver now I close my stance and hit massive draws. I have such a problem with a hook. I even tilt my head (lefty player) to the left and only look at ball with right eye almost and it allows a fuller turn too. It keeps the hook at bay most times. But with a swing speed or 110 mph with driver. I have a hard time toning it down on hooking.

@@theopenstanceacademy487 I just feel with driver and everything above 5 iron it's really hard to not shut down face and feel like I'm smothering the face shut. You can't REALLY have a release like Lee Trevino played the push draw as I call it

Trailing elbow controls the club face. Vertical rotation paired with a move to the forward heel pre-impact takes care of both - provided the club is on plane from the top.

@@scottp6761 Lee the flea didn’t release his club into impact. He was a self-admitted blocker. If you keep your club shaft in the same orientation to your feet as when you set up square, then with an Open Stance, you would be layed off. Quick pull hooks are your result. However, if you get the shaft pointed at your target at the top, life gets considerably easier. Read my book, The Open Stance and Three Short Game Lessons for the longer version. iPad problems

I agree but explanation was much too detailed. Golf stance to open should be done in minut increments. The brain will adapt in time.
