Open Space | The Windemere Tract, Ralph Haver AIA (1955)
Ойын-сауық
Ralph Haver AIA was an American Architect who was highly accredited to bringing Modernism to Arizona. Malcolm and Lea weren't necessarily looking for a modernist home when they stumbled upon their current Ralph Haver home. Always intrigued with design and making a space into their own, they saw the potential through their designer Joel Contreras who at the time was one of the few people redesigning historic homes in Arizona. Ralph Haver was known for his use of affordable and practical building materials, such as concrete block and plywood, which allowed him to create affordable postwar homes.
Malcolm and Lea are a part of a small tract of Ralph Haver homes with only 30 homes in their neighborhood. Throughout the past several years, they have seen a new generation of buyers coming into the neighborhood and lovingly caring/restoring/remodeling the homes. Ralph Haver homes are reminiscent of the Cliff May homes in Southern California, similar construction, design elements and die hard homeowners that are uplifting the legacy of these architects.

Talk about amazing renovations. Doesn’t even look like the same house, very well done
Honestly, some things are also not my style but I like to finally see a mod house that is not a "period correct" time capsule or museum or whatever, but a HOME to actual people is refreshing
Growing up in Phoenix I always liked Haver homes, but didn’t know anything about them. How I wish I could have bought one! By the time my husband and I looked at one, a very tiny one, there was a cash offer on that first day. 😂 I’m happy for this couple and sorry to read some very judgmental posts making assumptions about them. Trolls, you can express yourselves respectfully if you try. There’s enough in our lives to make us feel bad without your mean vibes.
"Our Home is an expression of us!"
the house was waiting for you. amazing transformation. love the story behind these builds.
Beautifully renovated, and beautiful home owners. enjoy!
Another great story in the series. Great work on the home. Congratulations.
Keep these videos coming! Love to see midcentury homes that are not filled with kitschy decor.
That’s gotta be the hottest house on the block during the summer
Setting this home & hearing their story made my heart so happy. I love hearing and seeing how people can make their vision for their home a reality, without feeling the need to compromise. Another stunning display of human beauty & architectural art.
Absolutely beautiful home and beautiful people. Cheers!
beautiful home-
Love it!!!
Well done ❤ Thanks for sharing this. We are a About to start a renovation of mid century estate home
Well done! Congrats on the beautiful space.
Amazing property and solid framing with those shots to show it off 👏
Oh sht this is AZ, thought it was Cali. Very nice home. loved everything about it. Everything except for that damn Raiders tee he was rockin....GO 9ERS! 😂😂
I love this home so much they did a great job Love everything about it
Yes, living an artistic life is top shelf living!
beautifully done and articulated! i got it and just love it!!
Solid video yet again!
Yoooooo this house is super fly! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video! I really dig the tripod shots, heavy on beautiful and clean composition. Nice work!
Absolutely gorgeous house.
Gorgeous home!
Wonderful story telling, fit for this stunning home. Thank you Openspaceseeries for such great content. I really wish you could intergrate some plans and layouts so that we can get a better feel of how the spaces are designed to flow.
Man, this home is the best
It would have been nice to have a tour of this house... 🙂
The black really changed the MCM vibe for me.
Beautiful spectacular. 🎉
Amazing
I like the drawing of your home the bestest.
nice work
Nice!
I think it looks pretty sharp. I like it better on the front than on the back though. Feel like it needs somethin else to break it up some. They definitely improved the look of it by adding that brick wall. Really compliments the architecture. I thought that was probably original.
I'm in awe. I liked when she said a home is an expression of our art.
nice!
это так просто и так сильно!
Another one! 🚀

Interior is spectacular. Taste level is way up there IMO. I wouldn't change much of anything. Exterior color is way too trendy and unfortunate. Stellar home overall.
I’m curious mid-century track homes in California sometimes don’t do well when it gets hot or cold because of the layout, what if anything was done during the renovation/restoration process that may have solved that issue?
I do love the design and Mid-Century homes but, the exterior color should be beige, white or a light orange. The black color is a bit harsh for Arizona. I love the pool. ❤️
Desert adobe homes are known to be lighter in color to reflect the summertime desert sun. Being that this house is painted black..... and in Arizona, I'm curious about the heat absorption black attracts.
🙏🏽❤
Quote at 5:10 .. our lives are art….
The black is a little sad to see. Not my interior style either but beautiful house bones and beautiful video

So many people are scared of black. It defines and grounds the fuk outta the home. It doesn’t look incomplete or needy. It looks content and focused.

I do agree! It will hold the heat, in the summer!
Hm, beautiful design though congrats. I’d personally add more browns here and there also a space for a Hi-fi stereo room and all set.
You can tell which one had the vision and did all the work.
I wonder if the black gets really dirty with all the sand storms
My God! He must be rolling in his grave.... 😳
they actually just listed this house for $1.6M lol

Why do people say "realator"?
I’m curious how they can afford it 😅
Its giving youth pastor vibes.
Love the layout and style but black is not inviting as a color. IMO
ARIZONA? Why do they not have one of my paintings? - Too much flipping in that hood too. Houses are so much.
What’s sad is a Haver home is no longer affordable and takes away from what his desire was in his home constructed
it's not "realitor"! it's "realtor"

Ummmmm you live in AZ, in a black house, no attic with insulation where it gets over 110 degrees 4 months out of the year….. your electric bill must be insane to keep that place cool! Good thing you have a pool that has 90 degree water in the summer time….. 🥵
Ughh the black doesn’t do it 😢
Too dark, needs woods, copper, raw aluminium just anything! Needs bright colour features. That dark on the fence and outdoor area is oppressive!
No longer midcentury. Not sure why people destroy these properties, then sell.now the new owner is left with others bad choices.
Black house numbers on a black wall sure is a choice, I love the house otherwise
Sacrilege to paint it black
So sad the way people rapped up these homes over the years.
Слишком мрачно. Перебор с чёрным цветом.
It's a TRACT home, not a track home. Dude wants so badly to be informed - but he just isn't. The gal is no better. LOVE the property, though.

Don't know why this is so hard for people to learn. Multiple houses are built on a tract of land and thus called tract homes. There is no such thing as a track home!

We were young once but have forgotten our own ignorance or imperfections. Why insult them? It’s about the house.

I love the way the owners express how architecture affects their lives. That’s what modern architecture was all about. But sadly look around at Phoenix architecture. It’s as if Frank Lloyd Wright had never existed, let alone lived and worked here.
Absolutely ruined the exterior, why paint it black and white like all the new “modern” homes being built. I’d opt for a more mid century look

Meanwhile, I love how the black accentuates the architecture and textures throughout the house. It makes the play of light and shadows the feature and not the walls and wall color. Also, love how it "hides" things like the tv in the living room is barely noticeable but when colorful pieces are contrasted with the black, like the yellow chairs on the patio it makes them stand out and seem sculptural almost. I was debating painting the exterior of my home in Florida black and this just sold me.

Agreed. Agreed. Agreed.
Beautiful home. Far more mature than the owners. They're a bit much. "We really feel like our lives are art..." Blech! She should speak less, and he should educate himself on what he's talking about. It's a tract home, not a "track" home.
Fail. Sorry.
What's with hat?
