As a Californian I'd say the decline into a cesspool of Oakland and other cities along with increasing state level quality-of life declines, is not by accident. Years if not decades of legislative foolishness in cities and the state capital have resulted in basically more uncivilized behavior, which is increasingly tolerated by the judicial system, and by the people themselves as they just become accustomed and accepting as they adapt to more and more lawless and/or trashy behavior by the people around them.

20 years ago while waiting for a BART train, I met a black woman wearing a jogging outfit. She told me that's what she was wearing as she was walking home when a cop stopped her and arrested her for prostitution, even though her clothes were not revealing or sexy, and she is not a prostitute. Years before that, I gave lady a ride home in Oakland. After she got out of my car, a cop car turned on its high beams, and a cop came up to my window, suspecting me of being a john. On another occasion about 20 or more years ago I was on a date with a young lady. We were sitting in my car when a cop came up and asked me if she was a prostitute (a very insulting question). Back then cops stopped innocent people on suspicion of prostitution. Now they don't do anything about real prostitutes or pimps. How times have changed.

They did do something to solve the problem, they renamed the Oakland Airport! What else can they do?

For those wondering, It’s illegal-ish: In 2022, the California governor signed a bill (SB 357) making it illegal for the police to arrest these women for loitering (standing around) for the purpose of prostitution. That is why the women openly and blatantly stand around in beach wear 24/7 and advertise and the Police CANNOT mess with them JUST FOR STANDING OR WALKING AROUND!!! Of course we all know why they standing around, BUT without legal proof, they are safe to stand around…. HOWEVER, if the women were to make a deal with an undercover cop, then that’s actual solicitation (prostitution) and they can face legal action for that…. Indecent exposure is displaying an actual sexual body part in public; technically, these women are wearing bikinis, but their actual nipples and ‘lower level lips’ aren’t showing so they’re okay legally speaking….

Regulate and tax the brothels. Force the girls to get tested regularly, register and only operate from sanctioned brothels. Use the taxes to fund an enforcement and rehab task force for both the sex addicts and girls who are addicted to drugs. It’s the oldest profession yet nothing is being done to bring it out of the shadows and eliminate the negative side effects.

So is the media going to discuss the social issues that lead to this type of behavior? Poverty is a massive driver... So why isn't the gov offering solutions that tackle poverty? All we ever hear about is complaining about poverty but no Capitalist presents holistic solutions. Pushing poverty down the road is not a solution, it's deflection, it's ignorance.

@@cutthechicken194 the status quo for both buying and selling a$$ should be illegal. However, this is the oldest profession. Just legalize it regulate it and move on. Giving socially awkward people a healthy and safe regulated venue for sellers and buyers will solve a lot of problems.

"The city allows it" No, you allow it. You are the city. If this is in the open, it's a sign of hard times and it is up to YOU to help these people out of that rather than looking to hide it.

You need to do more research on the subject. Most of these women have pimps who take most of the money and most are abused and drug addicted and many have been trafficked. I'm familiar with many such cases. Sure, keep minding your business and caring less about your community or the people in it even as a this form of human slavery continues. In the US this should never be considered "ok." Children in any society should not be exposed to it either.

Just bc they are walking around in lingerie in public they assume they are sex workers smh
