Dananath, I have lived for more than three decades overseas and recently returned with the hope of starting a new venture in Sri Lanka. I am here to build advanced batteries for Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage. Today I wasted about an hour at the Department of Import and Export control unsuccessfully to obtain a copy of a missing document. The general impression they leave is that they are පිං පඩි කාරයො. I found this was one of the best interviews ever because Dr. Pathum dissected the issues plaguing our country very well. You also deserve a lot of credit for identifying and selecting this young man and giving the podium to express his constructive views. When everyone speaks about the meteoric rise of Singapore and South Korea for example both countries were developed by two autocratic leaders with a fabulous sense of emotional intelligence and a set of clear goals with less corruption within the ruling rank and file for their respective countries. For most part their elected legislatures were there to rubber stamp their policy frame work. It is also accurate to state that a vast majority who lived in the slums made a sacrifice for the greater good of their next generation. When people upgraded from the slums to dignified homes the promised distant dawn for them was not a mirage but a reality. The only successful world class enterprise that survives to this day from the 70 to 77 era was the transformation of the ceramics industry to manufacture bone china in collaboration with Noritake of Japan. The man who delivered this world class business, Anura Weeraratne was fired and convicted of misusing a generator belonging to the ceramics corporation. That’s how we treated our doers. Name any other world class product we produce from that era or even now? Having designed the tiniest rechargeable battery for Steve Job’s first i-Pod, I remember he once said "you cannot ask people what technology they want and try to give it to them. By the time you deliver what they asked they will ask for something else." Therefore, the builder of a product must be able to convince the user of its value. I hope the government’s vehicle import moratorium would extended to the gasoline/diesel powered vehicles to curtail the outflow of Dollars to purchase crude oil when they are ready to ease imports. We can then deliver a compelling argument to successfully adopt EVs in Sri Lanka.

Service sector එක හදන්න බෑ Industrial Sector එකක් නැතුව. අපිට ලේසියෙන් කරන්න පුලුවන් දේ තමා පිටරට වල Industrial Sector එකේ ඉන්න ව්යාපාර ලන්කාවට ගෙන්වා ගැනීම. ඊට පස්සේ අපිට පුලුවන් දැනුම ක්‍රමයෙන් ඔවුන්ගෙන් ලබා ගන්න.

I watched this only yesterday. So my comment is pretty late. My observation is that GR also had similar ideas about developing the country to PK. . But what GR lacked was the experience to deal with dirty politics of SL, I think he fell for all the tricks that the administrators, politicians and unions played around him. They basically pinned everything on one person GR. He basically lacked 'a tricksters' mind to deal with these people. Do you have what it takes? how would you do it ?
