Open All Hours Filming Locations (Doncaster) - Then and Now (Series 1)

Filming locations for Series 1 of the classic British sitcom 'Open All Hours'. Open All Hours ranked eighth in the 2004 Britain's Best Sitcom poll, and Series 1 aired in 1976, over 40 years ago now. This video shows the filming locations used in Series 1 around the Doncaster area. I've attempted to locate them as best I can, however where I cannot I have left the scenes in anyway in the hope that someone might recognise them or perhaps remember where filming took place!
Locations include Lister Avenue (the shop and Nurse Glady's house), various streets around Balby, Doncaster, several scenes around Elmfield Park as well as streets in the Town Centre.
I will be working on Series 2 shortly.
Hope you enjoy!

Thanks! I recently moved from Woodfield Plantation further out to Wadworth, which actually helped me scout the locations! If you're on Balby Road I'd be surprised if you hadn't seen me at some point then with my camera!!

Really enjoyed this. It's quite sad when you look at the areas where the late great Ronnie Barker, Lynda Baron and all other marvellous actors and actresses stood and now they're no longer with us. Great comedy. Happier days.

Totally agree with this, rewinding and pausing needs to be slower. Thanks for doing these though. I actually thought the shots with the legs were in the park off Balby Road didn't realise it was Elmfield Park.

Despite all the crap that was going on in the 70s and 80s most of us who were young then would go back without hesitation. I suppose that's been the way with all generations though.

This is magical providing information regarding a programme that means so much to many. Living in New Zealand and remember watching Arkright with Mum and Dad and brings back great memories. Still open all hours is marvellous and its great the memories live on. Thank You marvellous effort and in years to come as things change more this will be invaluable for historians.

Wow this is really cool! Not much has changed over such a long time, which is awesome! I love seeing the camera trickery such as Arkwright looking over a different wall! Such fun. I live one road away from the main house in Gavin and Stacey, and often see tourists with cameras, or pass a location that makes me smile remembering scenes. Just 10 miles away they filmed some doctor who's and I drive through a long tunnel, the same one in the Easter special where they came out of the tunnel in a different dimension! Always makes me smile. Thanks for the effort it took to get these locations, I bet even David wouldn't recall the majority now :)

This has been on my mind for some years, when you watch the series it looks so dated ,almost sudo Victorian. When it was filmed in the late seventies . All the windows and doors were original, and nobody painted there houses that often as diy was not fashionable and the 70 year old paint with lead in it protected them the colour went dull. Then came the 80s double glazing revolution, and windows were sold with small openings, usually based on a salesman saying that they were more secure. There was no thought about design or symmetry. Now it all grey paint.

@@um20uk I didn't know it had been demolished. You used to be able to get down the sides and round the back where there were fire escapes. In the early 70s kids would pay to get one of a gang in, who would then go and open the fire escape and let all the others in free. There's a scene in a later episode that was filmed in the same place where the Black Widow attacks Granville with an umbrella after they bump into each other.
