I wanted to show the process I generally go through when tuning this platform, it has come up several times. I am still perfecting the method to recording, and mixing sounds correctly and efficiently where this does not take up to much of my time. But I am striving to bring evolving content... cause.. this has become a hobby of its own... peace

Hey, Chris. I've got my DOF reality p6. Before I even assembled it I added some arm extensions to the servo horn, doubling potential travel. I also clearanced the rod ends, and gas springs, as well as ensuring I'm operating within the travel limits of the springs.. (I think the gas springs/shock absorbers have too much damping..) Before learning about SMC3 where I can edit Kp, Ki, PWMmin, PWMrev, etc... I noticed a lot of overdrive and oscillation on decent, and motors unable to return to neutral position. I didn't notice I can tune the PWMrev to mitigate that...until I decided to go back to stock horn length and begin adjusting some software. (I hadn't even assembled it as the designer had intended yet ...) Next I mechanically adjusted neutral position of each motor position sensor so that neutral will be a right angle with the rod, rather than horizontal, looking for more total rod travel. (If I can cause plus and minus 85° travel from neutral) But I'm not sure if the original settings were skewed already. I do know that it would achieve nearly parallel horn to rod angle at maximum height, let's say 170° and only about 70° at minimum. I would like to adjust the lowest position much lower, and utilize 160 degrees of rotation of the servo horn. I have the clearance for it. ALSO I Want to add pitch to the LONG G force surge. Surge is lame. I expected pitch. This device is an Arduino SMC3 OVER usb to serial. So I can use any software easily. Should I use sim tools? I would love it if you would remote in to my PC using Chrome remote desktop... Or RDP, and check out the software connection to this DOF reality hardware. Of course I know you're busy. I'll read your hit hub and see if I can begin to apply some of that to these controllers.

I would have at least tried it with their arm length!, :) ...I understand the concern you have with trying to extract more and optimize swing arm travel While you may be maximizing the arm length, I know one guy that build their platform based on mine did that and he liked the additional movement,, I never did it though, YRMV. mixing the motions is on you, for surge lets say,, I mix in roughly 2:1 ratio of actual surge, with pitch,.. adding pitch allows gravity to apply a continuous force on your now off center body. giving you a sense of continuous acceleration, you need to build up the "motion cue" library for yourself vs your games, you wont find much out there that will feel right... most rigs are different from each other,.. though you have a better start as its a commercially available product. Yes, use simtools, look at the specifications for your controller to get the output format, and setup simtools then to replicate that format with its mixed filtered values. Email me, maybe sometime this coming week we can have a video conference, and I can help you with your settings in simtools. chrisknauf@gmail peace

What's the estimate budget of this thing? Except wheel, pedals, seat etc.. Only the 6dof thing with drivers, controlers and whatsoever. P.S. I can't belive you have so few views. This is a bomb!

~5k USD .. I did all the fab/weld work on the chassis .. I don't advertise,.. not one to self promote :) if you are looking for this sort of thing,.. ya may stumble on it. I help out those that need the help... I am building an army of Open 6dof'ers, there are a bunch of folks all over the world that communicate with me daily, with their progress... Its a dangerous project, but with a healthy respect.. you can have allot of fun and be safe.

Yeah... I welded up a better speaker mount after this for both the front and back speakers, they aint goin no where ... as for my back, yes,... this rig demands respect,.. and I have no one to blame but myself if/when it does injure ,,, as it has and I take note as to why ,.. and try not to let it happen again .. by taking precautions, such as I have two estop methods on the rig itself,..as well one off the platform for witnesses ... to help. I was thinking of putting a dead man switch on it next ;) ... seriously though, I have been injured in this several times, and my back is the first thing it takes out. I have had to spend several weeks out of it,.. several times... again,.. I try to learn from those instances,.. and evolve the platform to reduce or prevent. .. thanks for subscribing,.. I like seeing that number increase .. :) peace!

@@Christopherknauf i have build simple 2DOF(wheelchair mitors)with traction loss in my man cave but your project is my future inspiration. Well done. Question about vr. How do you feel the speed? I do not have a speed sense at all in vr. Maybe some help with settings..

@@tomkil192 motion sims are supposed to relay a sense of acceleration,.. a constant velocity they cannot really relay to a rider,.. its the change of velocity over time is what you tune them for. i.e. in my 6DOF I use two dimensions to tell the rider that they are accelerating - first you use the longitudinal(forward movement) ,to accelerate them forward or back depending on accelerating or braking,... but there is also pitch,.. which allows the tuner to tap into the gravitational field to perceive a constant acceleration .. the more you pitch back the more if fees like you are accelerating. So with a 2DOF, you would only use pitch to feel acceleration, .. and I would put a little heave in the pitch as well to simulate heave movement... from road/shock flux... also,.. I have a wind generator in my face that will blow faster the faster I drive,.. and that helps as well....

Can a 6DOF simulate traction loss (such as in dirt rally) better or at least the same as a traction motion platform?
