Opal Found Drilling A Mineshaft In Coober Pedy!
Ойын-сауық
This week we have the pleasure of hosting another video on our channel filmed by Lachlan Blatchford and his brother Shannon Blatchford at their claim in Coober Pedy!
Some words from Lachlan about the video:
The Grace Opal boys push on with our plan to ream a shaft to make it big enough to get our machine down. With the peril of hard grey billy rocks and huge old machinery breakdowns, nothing is guaranteed... Progress sees us optimistic enough to sink a hole in the line we are hoping will be productive, what we bottom on is very encouraging to say the least! No fortunes made this trip but rest assured Grace Opal is committed to documenting the first fully fledged multi million dollar opal find on KZread..
We hope you all enjoy the video leave us a comment and let us know if you would like to see some more mining in Coober Pedy!
Make sure to head over and grab yourself some top quality Coober Pedy Opal:

Thanks for watching !
The only thing on my bucket list is to come to Australia, Coober Pedy in particular, and see the birthplace of my favorite gemstone. But I won't be able to come at this, the twilight of my years. But, still, I dream.

Loved the narration JC. awesome as always
Loved it. Balance of sound seems fine. Very enjoyable vid.
Love this video, great seeing other ways of mining and Wow the scenery is awesome👏
Loved the guitars.. cant wait to see what comes out of there
Very interesting to see the opals emerge from the earth. On your next video if you could turn up the recording volume, I can always turn it down here, still exciting stuff, cheers.
I like the voice/music ratio. Eventuates the beauty of the area
FABOLUS VIDEO!!!! Ive always wanted to spend a month or two in Australia since childhood- To hear "Dreamtime" stories from Aboriginals, see 'Roos in the wild, and go to Cooper Pedy-‐ The 'rock houses' and OPALS!!! BUT will probably not make it in this lifetime (nearing 70-Lord, thats hard to believe! 🤭) so i truly THANK YOU for the "vicarious" trip!! P.S.-- Lovely stone!!!!❤

Loving these videos lads, I'll follow your exploits for as long as you keep doing it!
1:48 the pattern on the wall looks like a colonial sailor screaming out at someone left of frame. Sounds loopy but seriously can't unsee it haha
Just discovered this channel, missing you guys from the programme! I'd love to have a go at opal hunting!
Opal in the bucket helps pay for Nicks services, he can finally afford a tube of sunscreen and some earmuffs 🤣Great video, cheers guys 🍻

Really neat to see a mine shaft being drilled in....
Only a few mins in, definitely need to sort the music/Voice balance, can't understand anything through the music :(

Was that JC's voice? Didn't recognize it without the usually loud and excited vibes. Kinda refreshing
Good onya guys keep up the great work.
I think exposure and time help you to develop inbuilt hearing protection
For real guys not the mainstream media BS 👍
sweet!
Great northern zero a great alternative
Very nice find whilst drilling 😂😂😂😂
Crank up the music. Especially your own songs. Cheers boys.
I made an extendable drill, fool proof, can't get stuck.
How about a short detailed series on how to start opal mining for total noobs, from finding a spot, staking a claim .....
I bloody love watching videos like this mate, Makes me wish I lived in Aus and not “Ye Old Boring England” where the prospects and free stuff you get given are plentiful if………………….you’re NOT a native!! asylum!
Hope u gave driller that little bit that came out of the bucket
Do people go through the piles of dirt left up the top of the holes very often? almost looks like it's worth sifting through with a black light at some point.
Can hear sound voice music perfect
Young Guns keep the vids coming please 😍

Mates, will you drop a video soon? Even if you guys are just planning out your season, night prospecting by black light, cutting or polishing Opal, a trip over to Eric's ?(the stone cutter, rubber / whisperer) or just doing your thing. Have you mates every find one of them old gold coins out prospecting? Hope all is well with you mates! Cheers 🍻 ⛏⛏⛏🇺🇲
That Toyota looked like a technical from the back... *Maybe an actual technical could help defend the hole*
You don't check the dirt while drilling to see if you have any opal in it??
@Opaldigger
4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s what we were doing when Shannon was yelling about the opal! Haha, but we do have a pretty good idea at what stage / level the opal is likely to be so we go very hard around those buckets and check the rest with a blacklight at night later.
How much does sinking such shaft cost? Not asking for a specific number, but is it in hundreds or thousands?
Hey fellas, how could someone go about getting started in the opal mining business? I'm a 20 year old American guy with 0 connections to any miners, let alone opal miners, and I have no experience actually mining (aside from Minecraft and Terraria). I've just absolutely fallen in love with opal and the process of opal mining so I'm genuinely curious about how and where I could get started in this industry. I'm itching to cover myself in dirt to find some gorgeous color.
“Booby traps”??? What if someone is just lost or merely a kid riding his bike through the area?
@Opaldigger
4 ай бұрын
They’re not very dangerous ones, just enough to frustrate people who come into his claim. I’d hope unsupervised kids on bikes stayed off the fields as there are many thousands of deadly shafts. Although I was riding a bike out to the field at 13 years of to noodle (fossick) but I have a special condition, 😅..
You guys back at the 9to5 life or just in a dry spell?
Difficult to to hear thought the music. Still watching though!!!!
Where are you selling the opal you are finding?????
that dust can't be good
August 2021….wow you guys are waaaayyy behind

lessen the music and raise your voice alittle
That's not surprising, is it? I mean, that's what you were trying to do, right? I sure hope your next video isn't something like: I used a toilet and a turd appeared.
@Opaldigger
4 ай бұрын
It’s actually very surprising! All the drillers I’ve spoken to over 30 years have around the same estimate. Only about one of a hundred shafts drilled contains opal with colour that is worth something. It’s the reason quality natural opal is so expensive, there’s literally miles of dead ground between relatively tiny productive areas. Thanks for watching!
The music is a little much, hard to hear what you're saying. I want to listen to you!
That's way too much dust. Mask or not you won't live to spend what you find.
Please lose the music.
Voice up mate you can barely be heard
Congratulations, you’ve discovered the easiest method of making me angry: speak softly and play loud music. The music should be in the background not the foreground.

Sorry boss, we are taking notes and definitely adjusting going forwards. Bloody iPhone with an app makes the whole thing on our end and what sounds good on this end doesn’t always come out quite the same! Once we strike the big one we will invest in some good equipment like the Young Guns have! 😊
Nice mask😂
