Amazing video! Here's an opal superstition you might not be aware of: In 1829 Sir Walter Scott published a book called "Anne of Geierstein". In the book, Anne wears a talismanic opal that brings tragedy and upheaval wherever it goes. In fact, at one point the opal cracked and shortly afterwards, a character died. This portrayal, along with opal's natural tendency to "craze" in reality, made the public steer away from opal's for a few decades out of superstitious fear! It was only later when Queen Victoria's love for opals sparked a trend among the Victorian elite, leading to increased demand for opal jewelry and subsequently revitalizing the opal industry.

Informative video as always! Stunning results from all the opals including those chips :D Something you MIGHT not know as requested: Out towards Nettleton's first shaft in Lightning Ridge, is a man who has an entire tree trunk covered in opal, from rough to finished gems. He allows anyone to visit for free and gives all visitors the chance to glue an opal to another trunk and make a wish, a fascinating man with a fascinating story. I had him right me a personal message in a journal during my travels in the Outback. One of the best experiences I've ever found myself stumbling into. & An opal arrow head, although ineffective (and stupidly expensive) to use for modern day combat, has a better chance of contaminating its target with opal fever rather than injuring them...

Dear Mr. Pulitzer, Thank you so much for your videos. I love opals so I've seen every video of you and Justin (blackopaldirect) and others. About a year ago I realized why not try cutting opal myself, so I bought my first pack of Australian opals and tried cutting with just a whetstone and sandpaper. Since then I have bought a lot of small stones, some of them were quite nice and I even sold one a few months ago. It's a nice hobby for me. Thanks and keep posting good educational videos :)

@PulitzerOpal I've loved opal for many years. I do own a small piece of iron stone with trace opal in it that I bought from ebay along with a triplet cabochon. but anything bigger is well out of my price range. I do some silversmithing, but im not an expert. I'd be terrified of breaking and the opals I have if I tried to set them. Absolutely love your channel, Sheila makes me laugh, as of course, does your pride of cats. That's quite an interesting historical tidbit! Yes, calomel was indeed used as a laxative in the past, although its use has been largely discontinued due to its toxicity. As always I wanna thank you for taking Roys Rocks under your wing. Glad I messaged and brought attention to the collaboration. Y'all two are the best Opal guys on KZread. Then Lapidary Dave for show videos rounds everything out. Justin is cool but his content is overpriced in it's endgame / always a gamble otherwise. You and Roy show every level of the game.
