OOPS... My VFR 800 did NOT like this Grand Prix track!

Taking my totally standard 1999 Honda VFR 800 on to the Nürburgring GP track was maybe not my best idea, but at least I know what I need to improve next!

Dale, great content. I lost my entire stack of old Performance Bike magazines in the Auckland floods last year; figure you wrote most of them for some years. Also, the VFR sounds wonderful.

It's when you drag the exhaust that you know it's time to replace the 20 year old suspension 😂

Upgrading the suspension & videos to show the fitting process, adjustment & overall improvement/results would be brilliant for a lot of bikers. Showing how you set the sag, rebound & comp would be good too & how you tweak it once you've ridden a few laps. Most riders never touch their suspension in my experience. These older bikes offer unbelievable value & performance & with a little money thrown at them they can be brilliant bikes to use / own, without the mind blowing price tags of some new bikes. Ps, the vfr sounds sweet as a nut. But, dump the linked brakes please 👍.

my 91 VFR Rc-36 just turned 86,000 miles today, still runs strong. All my bikes have after market shocks and front end work. I am not a fan of ABS or linked brakes like you have. Brakes should be used independently and not relegated to some computer or pro-portioning valves..

Brembo ORO discs are great. Try new fork internals and oil service Nitron shock or BiTubo. Just my 2cents

A UK sold folk brace helps stiffness on the front end. My ohlins rear keeps the foot pegs well clear even with my newly fixed footpegs lowering kit just swaped out heavy 5th generation footpegs with the 6th gen pegs. I just don't get on with my front PR4 tyre feel now the brace has sorted the front end. I also find front ebc discs sort the braking out with sintered etc pads. Great bikes through and through imo the 5th generation. I dig the your special model. And that choke is a longer term solution than my hecs3 hiss models non choke coolant hose solution imo. Great stuff enjoyed

Really really enjoying this ….not only for the awesome Vfr content but seeing the area around apex (which I’ve been watching for years ) and Vulcan is kinda cool . Also spotted the Vfr outside in one of misha’s recent vlog’s Excellent 👍

I’ve had a gen5 98 vfr since new. Suspensions not the best, I’ve had a Fox TwinClicker, replaced with a Penske, and have installed a Daugherty Motorsports upgrade in the forks. I quit racing years ago and have no desire to get back on the track so I can’t tell how much better the bike is. On the road I don’t mind the linked brakes. Early on I did have a problem with warped front discs and changed over to wave rotors, not sure of the mfg but certainly better. Am currently playing with a aprilia Touaregsnd a Tiger 800.

I love your motorcycle content! well ridden. That VFR is a great bike but it doesn't take much for a capable rider to learn the limitations of a stock motorcycle on a racetrack.

When this braking vibration happened on old brake systems, could be due one of the pistons is not moving as supposed to be. My 1999 hornet had more or less the same issue (the braking was "uneven" where I have nice braking at the beginning and at the end, but in the middle was braking like fading, and was vibrating. One of the pistons in the caliper was stuck, then the brake pads were not attaching the disc flat. Normally the brakes mounted by honda in the 90s were really good quality and until today, with proper maintenance, has been working correctly and never found out loss of brake. Could be braking better?, of course, but those were braking good after the maintenance. Also I had an VTR 1000 and the brakes were superb, even though was not modern brembo ones. This sunday will be at Nurburgring for the opening season parade. Would love to meet ya (white KTM superadventure T with Norwegian plates, shouldn't be so much like this, LOL) Cheers.

I've seen the bad piston thing before, but I'm definitely thinking discs right now. To be honest, I'd love to ditch the whole complicated CBS thing completely, but then I'm modifying a very good condition motorcycle that I paid a premium price for. It's a toughie. I will be doing Anlassen, but I'm also working all morning at Rent4Ring, so won't be able to meet anybody at a predictable time. I will basically throw my bike gear on and ride to the Anlassen the minute that work finishes.

@@btgmoto I have found something more on internet that can lead on this vibration. The discs are "floating ones" that means that have some rivets were the disc should be "loose" on them when they are cold. If one of those rivets is stuck (or more) means the disc cannot move freely over the rivets and then will be vibrating when braking, as the disc were not flat. I will try on my KTM, as it vibrates on hard braking. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oK1-rMt6ZpubpNI.htmlfeature=shared check this out

Is it possible to put a bigger rotor on the front to sort the wobble and give the combined brakes more of a front bias for little $?

I wouldn't bother putting another mediocre front end on from another honda. Some brembo discs, decent pads and a brembo RCS master cylinder should sort it. And unlink the combined braking system !
