Onyx Boox Go Color 7 Kindle App Test - Color Kindle Alternative?

Ойын-сауық

A look at the Kindle app on the Boox Go Color with a 7" color E Ink screen and a design similar to the Kindle Oasis.

To get the page buttons to work with the Kindle app, you have to set the Kindle app to use volume buttons as page-turn buttons from the Aa settings menu, and the Go Color 7 needs to have the page buttons set to volume under the optimize settings for the app (long press the Kindle app or swipe up from the bottom left corner with the app open).

I have both the Boox Tab Mini C and the new Boox Go Color 7. My Tab Mini C is amazing, the font in its Kindle app is easily read and nice dark letters. But I decided to get the Boox Go 7 because it was lighter to hold and had the page turn buttons. I immediately saw the Go's font in Kindle was so washed out even though the font in books offered by Boox was fine. Not really understanding that. I finally turned the color and brightness setting to max for Kindle and for some reason it did make the Kindle font slightly more readable but book cover images then are horrible so it's a sacrifice.. overall I have to admit I've been very disappointed in the Boox Go 7 compared to my Boox Tab Mini C (which I really love). So I'll just accept my Tab Mini C being heavier since it looks amazing on web pages for reading and images plus the Kindle font is way better. You're the only one I've seen address the Kindle font issues. So thank you, I thought I got a bad one for awhile.

Apparently Boox has not done a good job with their standard settings on the Go. Deep Guide (I don’t want to offend the creator) found it out in his first look.

@@EJAcademy Yes, I feel like if I hadn't gotten the Tab Mini C first I might not have had this level of disappointment. But the Boox Tab Mini C actually made me give up my Kindle Paperwhite, that's how amazing it looks. And I get it, the Go is way less expensive than the Boox Tab but it should look a little better than it does.

@@Sybilla9 yes, but Deep Guide was able to DRASTICALLY improve the fonts on the Go by changing the default settings. Watch his video to see how he did it. And he’s going to tinker more with his full review of the Go. He was very unhappy with the fuzziness of the fonts at first, but was pretty happy by the end of the first look video. It’s a software rather than a hardware issue. Now, the question of why Boox has such bad defaults is concerning.

@@EJAcademy Thanks I'll definitely have a look. I tweaked about every setting I found and I was used to doing that with my Boox Tab Mini C somewhat, although it needed almost no tweaking at all compared to the Go. But I'll look at his video and see if something I missed. Thank you! :)

@@EJAcademy Well I messed around with settings. But discovered something weird. I can't find the settings Deep Guide shows no matter what I click on. Those setting images look nothing like mine. I also have a loose device casing (the back plastic popped outwards when I took the clear case off I bought), and it had a dead pixel from when I got it from Amazon. But good news with all that is I have it pretty close to the images on my Tab Mini C. I appreciate the help.

It seems like using Calibre and the native reading program is better than using the Kindle app. I am waiting for the white model to be released.

Love the text to voice, but can you connect Bluetooth headphones? Also, with the physical buttons, can you disable the touch screen like you can on the Kindle Oasis?

Yeah, you can connect Bluetooth headphones and speakers. Kindles are the only ones I've come across with the option to disable the touchscreen.
