Work has been just crazy as of the last 6 months and it's been hard to do anything other than work, eat, sleep. hoping it's lightened up a bit now.

Not sure which hole as there are so many, but The Abyss is still a going concern and Greg W is leading the charge as he is widening the entry shaft under very arduous conditions. Hopefully soon he will break through to the source of the echo. I will certainly provide an update soon as I am myself curious as to how he is doing.

Are there any books or other resources you would reccomend to learn more about Ontario geology/geography? This is very interesting stuff!

Ann Sabina's books for sure - just some amazing collecting areas. also go on the web to mindat.org. I always research my location on mindat before I go there.

Hi Mick, good to see you! Abyss dig is still progressing, at least when the Covid thing is over. I found some other stuff last fall and this past spring in the same general area to check out. Most need some rope. Hopefully one of the open shafts/rifts I found will go somewhere??? We will see at some future date. GregW One of the spots near Staffa you showed a sink near by, I still need to ask about digging in. Unfortunately the 'ladder spot' is still a no for access, I asked son last fall. But with luck one of the other spots will connect to it underground. Time and effort will tell.

Great channel. Just wondering what the age group target of you books is? Would they be suitable for a 10 year old? Or to much above that level? Was thinking of a giving as a gift.

I would say you needed to be heavily into minerals and crystals and at least 16. The books explain specifics about finding the best locations in Ontario as well as what you find at those locations and special collecting tips to increase your success

I love what u do ... I love to do this too ... I collect different rocks and crystals and such .....iam ex military and my husband is still in we live on base in petawawa, ont but where we are there's Rapids and caves...and in my back yard I have found some quartz and moon stone I think I would love to get you advice and opinion on what I've found and how to make my geology work better

Spent some time in Petawawa myself in my youth - but went on to the British Army. Some incredible caves under the Ottawa River right near you. David Sawatzky and colleagues mapped 11 K of tunnels before he got transferred out east (Navy). You are in a great area for collecting. Have you been to the Smart Mine near Eganville?

That isnt the same ausable as the ausable river that runs through far northeastern new york state ,is it? I'm not sure were that river starts, but it flows south-east in general. I'm working on own theorys and that would have relivance .

No, this river flows into Lake Huron.

This is in Ontario, not being specific, it's north of London Ontario by a lot. BTW if you ask to look most land owners are fine with looking, but not all are. So be nice and respect there wises. Maybe one day they will change there mind. Still lots of potential were you can look. I believe the water table is about 100m down, through the bed rock, so all possible air filled caves to find. All spots I've seen so far that we have permition to look at will take work top get in. But maybe there is someplace we haven't looked that will easily go. They are still many places to look. Some sinks have been used to drain fields and are presently covered. Other still sitting waiting to be found by some future caver.

No, it is not - this one runs through Huron County in Ontario. a note on the New York Ausable though - my wife and I visited Ausable Chasm (New York) during our honeymoon. Beautiful spot.
