Have you encountered the issue that David Langerud identified with the limit of 125 songs when sending the MIDI data to the VL3X? I want to try this out, but I would be bummed if I have to stop at 125 songs when controlling my VL3X. Please let me know? Thank you.

The PROGRAM message is the only one you want to save in OnSong, if all you want to do is have OnSong select your song in the VoiceLive. You can delete all other CONTROL messages, as they control other parameters and effects and could mess up the effects in your preset.

Alvaro: Do you know if it would be possible to utilize OnSong, VoiceLive 3 Extreme AND BeatBuddy all MIDI(ed) together and work great for live performance? I also have the Switch 6 for the VL3X and the 2 button switch for the BeatBuddy. I want to be able to control 3 tracks of guitar/vocal looping, do vocal harmonies, and have bass guitar lines. I think I am supposed to start things with the BeatBuddy...

Play Electric is not MIDI so, nope.

I don't understand your question. Can you please clarify? The ipad is connected to the VL3X with an "ipad camera connection kit."

Can you share the link of the program you're using as apk we need to pay for the app.

Thanks for the video. Do you know of a way to connect TWO midi devices to the VoiceLive3Exteme? I would very much like to add an iPad with OnSong (as you) and also a BeatBuddy drum machine. Do you by any chance have any suggestions (or links to videos) on how to have both connected at the same time? (I have only come across videos explaining how to connect ONE midi device at a time myself)

Well, there is only one MIDI in port. But there is also a USB (mini usb). This is what I use to hook up m iPad (which sends midi messages to VL3X). So beat Buddy to MIDI port and iPad to USB mini using the Apple adapter.

Alvaro - Are you going from USB out of IPAD adapter to USB in Voicelive 3 extreme or to the MIDI IN? It looks like you are going into the USB of the Voicelive 3.....would I need cable that is USB to MIDI IN/OUT cable? Thanks

I am using a USB to mini USB cable. USB A (regular) is plugged into the ipad adapter. Then plug the other end (mini USB B) to the Voicelive 3X. I am not plugging anything into the MIDI ports of the Voicelive.

Great - that is what it looked like from the video - I couldn't see what port you were going into other than it looked to far to the left to be the midi in. So, just to clarify - I am going into the small input that you use to update the firmware that connects to my computer. Great info BTW - I appreciate when someone takes the time to do things like this.

Check to see if you already have it. It's an "add on" plugin for Onsong. It might have been included in Onsong when your purchased it, or it may not. If you have the new subscription model, I'm guessing it's included.

Hi. Cool tip! Does this work as you presented it *only* if your VL3X presets are in the same order as your OnSong Sets or will it sync the two together regardless of what order the songs and presets are in? Thanks!

Regardless of what order. That's the best part. It follows whatever Onsong song you open.

Yes, that's the one I'm using. It's nice because you an also charge your ipad at the same time. You can get it cheaper from amazon or used from ebay.

No, I just did that to keep some sort of order.

Alvaro - I have started to add my songs from Voicelive to Onsong - I have added 125 songs without any issues. I get to 126 and the midi program goes back to Program 1 ...it won't allow me to go any further. I have another 20 songs to go, but it is sending the songs back to number 1, 2, 3 instead of going to 126, 127, 128...any ideas of why it would do that? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I think this is a limitation of the MIDI specification. Better ask in the TC Helicon Voicelive forum.

If there is a limit of 125 songs - that's a serious problem. I know musicians with 500 songs on their iPad. Only 125 songs can be synced with the VL3X ?? Has this issue been resolved??

Can you connect via wireless midi so there's no cable hanging out of your iPad?

Yes, you can. I use the cme widi Master for Bluetooth.

And for us technically challenged:...what is it you are accomplishing? Is a performance video of “final product in action” an option?

As I switch songs on on song, I the voice live 3 preset also changes. So there is a new backing track and New Harmony preset. All without having to touch anything on the voice live 3.

Do you happen to know if this will work in reverse? Can we use the VL3 to tell on song which song move to?

Just hooked up VL3 Extreme and OnSong. Followed video and it worked perfectly as shown,thanks. Sadly,as i was hoping it would too,it doesn't seem to work in reverse. Changing up and down songs on the VL3 Extreme doesn't change the song displayed on the iPad. Going to read the manual for OnSong and VL3 EX to see if there is anyway this can be achieved. It makes more sense to me to have it working this way rather than have your have hands tied up clicking on screens,it just looks bad to in a live environment in my opinion,people won't notice when you are clicking on a pedal board,it's to be expected even,but with an ipad people are looking thinking is this guy checking his emails while he should be performing music.will post update regardless.

@@conord9902 you could always use a Bluetooth page turner pedal with OnSong to achieve the same thing. The other advantage of this is you can then use the easy set-list reordering in OnSong to drive the show no matter where the patches are on the TC.

I mean... if you use a particular app?

I use the Onsong app. The best app I've found for song sets/lyrics.

I watched your video and tried the same thing. Mine does not work. I do see the midi codes, so I know there is comunication between the vl3x and onsong. I can only assume my settings in OnSong or on the vl3x is the problem. Thank you for the video, and if you can help me with what settings you have under midi on OnSong and the vl3x, I would appreciate it. :)

This stopped working for me as well. I've been just copying the midi patch change text from one preset and pasting it into another. Then I edit the number to change to the appropriate preset (it's usually one number less than the preset that I want to get to). I must admit, I really don't know what I'm doing. I gave up on it. I wrote OnSong tech support and received this response from Jason. But I did not understand what I needed to do differently (and he did not elaborate): "The current version of OnSong is designed to send a program change along with an optional MSB and optional LSB. The current version however requires the MSB to be set in order for the LSB to be set. This would be how you’d expect this to work since you’d want to specify the MSB before the LSB to avoid unusually results. However, in the next version of OnSong, you will be able to set LSB without setting an MSB. If you want to send just an LSB, you should configure a control change 32 instead of relying on OnSong’s program change event which is really combining multiple control changes into one event."

I believe it works with the others as it is merely sending midi info.

Got it to work for 1 song. Programmed it in a set list. When I switch from the first song of my set to the second song the VL3X switches to the next song in my preset not the next song in my set list on the iPad. Plus it only switches 1 time. When I move to the next song in onsong set list the VL3X doesn’t change.

Often times I find I have to (in Onsong) go to numerous songs fwd or backwards. When I do this, Onsong eventually transmits the midi message. Haven't figured out why it does this.
