ONLY TWO STORES ARE OPEN AT THIS DEAD MALL

Come Sail with the Philly Captain as he walks around the extremely vacant mall named Penn’s Purchase. The outlet mall in Bucks County has seen better days and the Captain takes you for a walk around the mall and tells you about the best bargain he purchased.

Great video! Outlet malls were huge for a while but they overbuilt and killed themselves off.

And expensive to manage and for people to use. This is why "outside" sales Peddlers will become more common and its harder to enforce a ban on them; its kinda what you see in NY/CA, in the bigger cities, wheres its very expensive to lease a building for business; as they don't have to pay property or any sort of tax or anything related.

The decline of the malls are sad. Not only were they a place to shop, but a place to socialize and relax.

Excellent video Captain. Sad to see this use to be some good stores there. I can remember when this was a open field back in 1980, they use ta have a flea market there every weekend. They'll probably knock it down and build homes or townhomes. Taxes up that way are off the charts. A lot of money up there. Leave that bunny rabbit alone

John, are you going to go check out Liberty Village up in Flemington? Peddlers and Liberty were similar “village type” outlet and local retailer outdoor malls. I know it’s all closed, but it might not be demolished yet.

I read a comment on Trip Advisor that gave some insight on what was going on with this retail space back in 2019. "What I was told by employees of the Bass outlet and others shops there, were that the structures were being demolished and rebuilt for partial residential space, office and retail space. The decision was ultimately for less retail housing and more professional spaces with some residential towards the wooded areas." How sad because I remember when it the flea market and antique stores back in the 1970's and 80's, before they tore all down for this retail area. There were some great stores.

Thats what I remember when I was a kid / teen also in the 80s, the old flea market. Basically a grass area, with vendors and the tables selling various things. Lot of antiques. There was one single small building for ice cream/custard. Back was parking on gravel.

Holy crap! I haven't been here in about 20 years myself, I had no idea it's a ghost town now! I remember this spot in the mid-late 80s was a pretty large flea market, would come here with my parents. **edit - from Google Reviews - " Only store open was Coach, the rest of the stores are closed now. Apparently there is a developer who has plans to make a mixed residential and commercial establishment mix in the future." No idea, but I wouldn't be shocked with this plan.

I live in Mass. I am a bit familiar with the Viewmont Mall in Scranton. One of PREIT's. It seems to be in better shape than say 5-10 years ago. Not great, but better. Once Sears closed they had to hustle. I think they might have demolished part of it. I only go by it a few times a year. In many cases the mall is only good as the stores. If a chain closes, really can't blame the mall.
