AMD needs to get way more aggressive in competition with Nvidia. But seeing as they have canceled the 8000 series high end 8800 and 8900 models it looks like Nvidia is just going to run away with the market.

I'm actually still using the 1080TI right now while playing through Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p. Mostly high settings with no FSR on and screenspace reflections set to ultra. Very very nice performance, averaging 60fps+ (with the exception of the roundabouts in Dogtown and Megablock. Those drop me way down to 53fps for a few seconds) Everything else is smooth as butter and looks beautiful even without RT. For 1080p gaming, I'd say the 1080TI can still be very serviceable for many modern games today (and of course, easily run classics like the Bioshock series, Fallout 4, 76, Batman Arkham series, Vermintide II, as well as semi-modern titles like NFS Heat, Resident Evil Village, etc etc). If you're on a very tight budget, the 1080TI is still very good today. This is just a recommendation -> If you do get it used, be sure to buy some GLID Solutions 2.0mm thermal pads to replace all the old silicone pads on the heat sink and re-paste the card (unless the seller did it themselves prior to selling the card). Also I highly recommend you use MSI Afterburner to create a good fan curve, to ensure your card stays cool (since they are older models, you really want to treat them gently and don't allow them to overheat, especially in the hot zones). Undervolting it slightly can also bestow higher performance while keeping the card cooler, since heat throttles it down. 👍

At normal prices too. I paid £550 for it. That seems like a dream now. Top tier gpu for 550 🤪

Dont forget pcpartpicker. They will save you a mountain of pain in learnign things the hard way. Like making sure the motherboard actually supports the cpu, or the ram. Pick the CPU or motherboard you want first. I say pick the cpu you want first, then pick the best motherboard for that option. The rest is pretty simple, but the motherboard-cpu-ram compatibility is deathly seriously important.

A story from Russia: I put up for sale a Gigabyte RTX 3050 Eagle for 16,000 rubles (170 UDS) and several different RX 6600 XT priced from 18,000 rubles (190 USD) - 3050 were bought in three days, and no one even inquired about 6600 XT in a week. I'm amazed how people's heads are screwed up, and how they are ready to give up a card that's 30-50% more productive for the sake of "DLSS"

It's worse only in some games. People buy Nvidia GPUs cus they provide a wide variety of support for different software and are much more capable in ml workload. You might get 5-15% less fps in games buying Nvidia, but you'll get 100-400% of performance in software/ai, just cus you paid slightly more for an Nvidia card. Amd for some reason doesn't optimize their software support and even rt support, and Intel has just began their GPU industry so they just physically can't beat Nvidia in software support cus Nvidia been doing that way longer.

oh and lets talk about that 16GB 4060 Ti's 128 bit bus. it makes even the 7600XT look good, and that has the same exact problem, but at least its not $500. It would have been a perfectly fine card if they reduced it to 12GB and limited it to at least a 160 bit bus like the RX 6700 non-xt (or 192 bit like the 3060) instead of 128. Oh and dropped the price at least $100, but then that would also force the 8GB 4060 Ti down, so maybe down only $50

Yeah I swear they do it just to troll AMD because they know AMD launch every series and tier behind their launches and position their line up just below theirs and market them on price to performance. It’s like nvidia come up with the dumbest cards in the low to lower mid range just to see what AMD will come up to stay just behind so they can sell for just a bit less.

@@matejnemec3022 just like the radeon lineup being a shadow nvidia release product. Just behind nvidia enough to charge nearly just as much as nvidia. The beauty is theres always that guaranteed 10% anti-corporate, fight the power, underdog consumer and tight-ass type that will happily part with their money when they believe its cheaper and better value based on bias marketing metrics like price 2 performance and Prepper level vram. Radeon @ around MSRP $150 less on average than Nvidia doesn’t make them alot cheaper, it makes them slightly less expensive. If RT framegen and AA/upscale solutions matched nvidias level only then can p2p and emotional purchasing be truly justified. Radeon seems to attract super loyal somewhat unhinged fans that need to connect emotions to a product in order to feel good and justified about the purchase. AMD marketing figured out that connection will be made @around $150+/- 😇🤑🤑😈

Going to add that - if you are prepared to 'tinker' the RX7900 XTX may actually represent great value relative to the 4080 for ray tracing because it gets you 24GB ram, there are quite a few mods that are being made available now to enable FSR and frame gen modded back into the game. I modded FSR2 to FSR3 for witcher 3 next gen and cyberpunk and ray tracing runs great! If you're a linux gamer , you also get really great OC support and good Linux support for gaming if that's important to you. Where I live, there is still 300+ dollars difference between the 7900XTX and the 4080 Super.

I am not interested in ray tracing or upscaling when mainly play elden ring and cs2. 4070ti scared me becuze of 1100€ price tag in Sweden with 12gb vram. I had rtx 3070 was good amazing but after one year use and new games goes out ray tracing unplayable and 8gb vram holds back.

So here’s the thing in Europe the Rx7900xtx costs us 950-1000€ net no additional cost no hidden VAT nothing whilst the 4080 super sets you back easily 1200-1250€ that’s almost 300€ price difference. I am rocking with RX7900xtx by XFX picked it up for just under 1000€ with delivery from Amazon and I can’t stress enough how good that GPU is… it blows my mind everytime I boot a triple A title… I’ve also recently went from IPS panel to an Oled and that made a huge difference in picture quality and gaming performance especially in HDR which I was never a fan of until I had a proper oled display. I have a 65 c2 lg oled paired with my ps5 and series x but an Asus Oled monitor paired with a PC is night and day difference!

I was super fortunate and got a 7900XTX for free, so I sold my 2080 at the time. I don’t think $900 is too bad for a 7900XTX and it blows my 2080 out of the water in both raster and ray tracing. Right now I’m playing through Witcher 3, 1440p Ultrawide, max raytracing, FSR quality and never drop below 60fps. Usually in the 80s - 90s. And with the FSR 3 FG mod I’m maxing my refresh rate at 160hz. I know it’s not 4080s levels of raytracing but I wouldn’t feel like I’m missing out if you find a good deal!

Not saying that you shouldn't be happy or so let me be clear, but when people are going to spend that type of money, they will start looking on what both gpu's are offering, and as much as i want amd to compete, the only thing they truly offer on the 1 grand range is more vram and minimally faster rasterized performance, while nvidia's ignoring rt, offers their entire software suite which amd isn't even close to competing with.

If you are ok with using dlss3, at 1080p and 60fps, a 4060 can perform ray tracing just fine. Recently took an old i7 9700 and paired it with a 4060. 1080p Ultra RT preset on cyberpunk (this preset doesnt turn on PT by default) dlss3 quality setting, avg high 50fps, dlss3 performance setting, mid to high 60fps, add on frame gen, high 70fps. If you play with a controller, the input delay from FG isnt noticeable at all really, as long as you were getting say 50fps avg before turning it on. If you play with mnkb, i would avoid FG altogether unless you were already getting around 120fps before turning it on Edit: i didnt touch on VRAM, which like you said is the cards biggest problem. In my example above, you will absolutely be pushing that 8gb limit, certainly pushing some of the work into ram at points, but i didnt notice any stutters or anything of the sort. I havent put a ton of time into the game in that rig yet, because it was more of a hobby project as i already have a much better PC. In probably 10-12 hours of gameplay, its been a pleasant experience so far

I got a new MSI RX 6800 GAMING Z TRIO for around 525 usd here in my country. I see they go for around 470 usd used. The thing is, there have probably been a small accident with it as the box was dented and it was sold as a "Used" one with discounted price. Good for me as the card was still flawless and obviously not used. It still had all the plastic things you have to remove that are sticked to the card, and the pieces that you use on the card and the GPU holder has not been opened and so on. You can probably get them for 400 used in America, that's not the case here. So overall, it was a decent deal. I also work at the Web store I bought it in, so full coverage for 5 years. Got an RX 7900 GRE, can speak from experience - it's an awesome card, but kinda weird and jank. On the good side, I play at ultrawide 1440p rasterised and with light RT, and it monsters anything I throw at it. It's usually so fast the upscaling isn't a factor, it doesn't need it, even with ray tracing if it's something light like RE engine RT or Unreal 5 lumen RT. It also overclocks *really* nicely if you've got the patience for it. On the weird and jank side the overclocking was only recently unlocked (VRAM tuning) and overall the drivers seem pretty buggy, I have issues locking framerates in older games for example and V-Sync seems borked in every game I play. Overall, it's a fantastic card fir tinkerers and enthusiasts. For normies? I'm not so sure, the 7800 XT is probably fine and cheaper :) The GRE has surprising RT you'd be missing out on tho

OC+ undervolted my 7900xtx nitro+ so its at 280-320W at 100% load, hot spot temps NEVER crossing 65°C, insane. AMD is not as strict and greedy with their AIB partners as Nvidia and it shows how much headroom they get for quality (if they choose to).

I still have a 1080 (8y old ish) and my friend still has his 2060 ~5y old and guess what, they still work really well for most titles we play to this day. Sure the 1080 architectury is quite old at this point and the 2060 6gb is quite limiting. But we haven't had much reason to upgrade, not to mention our economy. Our plan is to upgrade to a 4080 and 4090 later on when we've saved up enough. We're going to buy used cards of course. After that, we're set for another 4, 6 or even 8 years.
