Only Fools and Horses - He Who Dares Wins - 6 minute lost scene

It's Christmas and Del is 'potless', so he takes Grandad and Rodney out for a free Christmas dinner at a Southern Railways orphanage, which is being hosted by Russell Harty from the BBC.
But does Del have an ulterior motive for keeping the flat clear for himself?

I think the problem with this comments section is that people don't actually know what lovechild actually means. All it means in this context is that Rodney would be the son of Jimmy Saville as a result of some short fling with his mum. Nothing to do with pedophilia or anything like that. Whilst you can argue about who knew what about Saville, one thing that everyone absolutely knew was that he was a ladies man so the joke is that anyone could potentially be Savilles love child, including Rodney.

pbr streetgang nope. During the 80's he was absolutely considered a 'ladies man'. He was often photographed with scantily clad models and surrounded by women during his television career. If that wasn't the case why make the lovechild joke in this sketch?

I've never heard anyone utter any of Del's phrases, but then again I'm from up north not in London. I don't know why OFAH has this massive fanbase even today, because most people, even those who were around back then aren't interested in comedies like this anymore they're more interested in all these strange comedies with Ricky Gervais in it where he's taking the piss out of old people, basically anything that's bingeing on Netflix. Most people seem to love all this alternative comedy rubbish written by people who've never had a proper days job and got some fancy letters after their name and think they have talent, mainly students who watch America shows like Greys Anantomy, Skins, Breaking Bad or crap sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory lol. Everyone in the UK seems to be focused on anything America now even to the point where people say "seasons" instead of series. There is no British culture left in this country.

When Del Boy told Rodney to say that he was a Jimmy Savile love child, they knew. Even way back, he keeps cropping up. Maybe it’s a case of many a true word being spoken in jest, with the mother being 12 at the time.

Mrs. Bobby the BBC and the entertainment business is and always was quite well represented with homosexuals. That in itself is not a bad thing, John Inman being an extremely professional actor and very funny, but it would help someone like RH to get on in the business.

I understand John Sullivan, the writer of OFAH, worked behind the scenes on many BBC studio shows such as The Two Ronnies (for whom he also wrote sketches) so would probably have been aware of Jimmy Saville's alleged reputation which, apparently and allegedly, was well known within BBC circles, according to the following clip. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6d_0Ll6ecrWfLw.html

Made now,and Jimmy Saville would not have even been mentioned, and if they had, then quite rightly there would have been outrage at such a sick joke.Reminds me of the sketch where Del and all the others are sitting round a table with a spiritualist medium, and there is talk of a blonde woman wearing a tracksuit with loads of jewellery and Trigger pipes up and says,"sounds like Jimmy Saville",well the last time that episode was shown as a repeat, the joke was never made-it was skipped. It would not be funny now ,now we all know what Saville got up to,and his horrendous crimes.
