CRONCH
that page crinkle is soooo satisfying
I have an Onion Skin Journal and it's sat unused on my shelf as it just feels so special and is so expensive that I've feel too afraid to use it - it never occurred to me to use it as a sketchbook as I was hung up on the word 'journal'. Love it! Thank you for the inspiration, your sketchbook looks incredible!
I feel like it would be a really fun challenge to work an onion skin sketchbook back to front, so you’re sort of continuously building on what came before. Really make the most of the transparency.

Yeah that’s such a fun idea!!
The sound of that paper is MESMERIZING!❤
I LOVE onion paper it’s fabulous for anatomy drawing where you can draw the bones on one layer then the nerves on the next, the blood vessels, the muscles, so on until you get to the top layer where you draw the skin that covers up everything it’s very fun paper to use.

Oooooooh I love that idea so much!
Interesting paper. I like the full page pattern series. A lot of these sketch journal tours r only showing finished drawings. So I think it's nice that u actually showed ur process n weren't too precious about everything.
omg! i've been wanting an actual artist to try this out. i wasn't sure if i wanted to buy it because i didn't know what i would even use it for, but this was such a fun video to watch! thank you for sharing.
i’ve been waiting for this one (i mean this in a joyous "i am excited for everything you do" way, not a rude way....)

Hehehe 🥰 thank youuuuu
Nothing makes my brain happier than your use of color. I love seeing the swatch pages peak through the linework. I just ordered an onion skin journal and I hope to fill mine with beautiful colors and patterns as well. ❤

That looks amazing! The layering really adds to it, and the sound.... wow! Also love how you were not too precious about it, and just.. used it. Very encouraging.

Thanks so much! 😊 it was so refreshing to just play and experiment in a less “pretty” way than usual for me. I feel like my sketchbooks used to be a lot more like this before the days of KZread and sharing it publicly 💜
That sketchbook makes a very satisfying noise! I love your figures, they’re so fluid and filled with movement.😍
Best sketchbook tour I’ve seen. I just love your work on this paper. You make it so special 😊

Thank you 🤩
This seems like such a good sketchbook to feel free and let loose in! Sometimes when the paper is too thick and pristine, I find myself holding back or just saving it for more thought-out spreads- which is so anti sketchbook! Can't wait to try the onion🤗
The Onionskin sketchbook is my dream. 😍 I love the sound and the see-through effect. When I get one, I'm going to start from the end of the book and really build on that transparency, I think it'd be fun and different. Loved this tour. So many pretty colours, but most of all the delicious linework adding up from pervious pages was so inspiring. Very "Sophie" sketchbook, well done. ❤️

Suuuuuch a fun idea! I love that!!!
The pages sound like Butterbrotpapier 😮🧡
I also have a onionskinjournal, I sometimes work into the journal because it feels so special to me. It is very very expensive to ship to the Netherlands. So i make special moments to work in it. But better work as free as you do. I love love love your video and your artwork so much. Thanks for sharing!❤❤❤❤❤
Hi from Perth 🐝 I’ve been delaying the use of a sketchbook because I fear that I would tear out the ‘mistakes’. You’ve helped me realise that the book is for my experiments and practice. For new ideas and colour processing. It’s not about making a perfect page each time. In fact, the book as a whole becomes perfect as each page is filled with my ideas… Thank you 🤗

Yesssss!!!! That’s exactly it! It takes practice to let go and get Scribbly, so give yourself a big pat on the back with every playful drawing, colour swatch and messy thing!
ahhh the sound is sooooo good!! i love how you often say that you've been playing in your sketchbooks and with your art in general, i think it's such a lovely mindset. i'm a perfectionist with my art, but i really wanna learn how to allow myself to be messy and playful and just have fun and not be afraid of making mistakes. cause sometimes i notice that things i work the least on turn out the best thank you for sharing your sketchbook and stories yet again 🩷
Love the way you illustrate curvy bodies
HI I AM FROM MELBOURNE TOO, BEAUTIFUL CITY. LOVE YOUR ART WORK, THE PAPER SEEMS TO BE SIMILAR TO TRACING PAPER THE CRISPY ONE. GOOD WORK DEAR. BYE MARY

Can’t get enough of the sound of the crinkly pages Yummy! Lovely journal. (Bit expensive for postage to Australia though). I shall make my own :) :)
You are totally influencing me to buy one of these! I am also obsessed with Neocolor II pastels, and I was in awe at how they looked on these pages 😍

I wish I could have expressed more strongly how LOVELY and smooth it was to draw with the neos on this paper! Heheh 🥰
never thought of this! I'll DIY one rn

Ahh I love when that happens!! Hello 🌼 welcome 🧡
I really like the self portraits you did - they look so fantastic! And I like those pages of patterns too! I think maybe they call it onion skin as skin from an onion is so super thin? And that paper is thin too!
@SophieMcPike
8 күн бұрын
Yeah I think you’re right! The animation industry probably took their “onion skin” term from the paper… because paper came before modern animation 😌
Beautiful art, beautiful paper sounds, beautiful video
how fun, thanks for sharing
I remember in December when you received this sketchbook, it’s so nice to be here still, watching how you filled it with colours, moods, shapes and lines!❤ love your art Sophie, thanks for sharing

I would love to get another one one day! Definitely!
This has to be my all time favorite sketchbook tour EVER! Such juicy, luscious color, the way you could see through the pages, just glorious! Thank you for this! I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if you could use Neocolor II in this, and oh wow, your paintings with the neo's were beautiful! I went back to your original video, just in case you get credit for us purchasing through your link. They should make you a brand ambassador, for as many as you will sell for them! I loved the views that you could get when you slipped the white paper underneath. Just so cool! (I'm a bit excited, can ya tell?) I hope you are able to get another one to make joyous art in. I could tell you loved it so! Thanks for sharing! Happy painting! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

Lovely video as always!!! I love all of your doodles, you always bring such joy to the art process and it's heartwarming ahah. one question about that book (because goshhh that SOUND and that transparency!! i need one) how does it handle bleed? I'm guessing very well since you've used it for ink?
@SophieMcPike

Have a look at my first video about the onion skin journal - I talk a lot about this 🌿🌼 but it handles it so well considering it’s ultra thin, transparent paper!!

Its soo cool.. but damn the shipping cost to NZ is more than half the cost of the sketchbook so sad🥴 is there any retailers down the southern hem?☺️
