Hey Brad, would you consider reviewing the Pixel Tablet? Before you say it doesn't support stylus, it does! If you look at the spec sheets, you can see that it supports the USI 2.0 standard. Any USI 2.0 stylus should work, not sure if you have already taken a look at USI stylus but this might be a good opportunity to check out a device that supports it.

Nice to see Android tablets are taking art seriously and heading fast in that direction. What we need now is a solid art app like procreate etc. I know many art apps are there, but I always find one issue or other with them. For example clip studio paint and Krita are solid apps, but their UI design language is more of a desktop's than a tablet's. Some other apps miss traditional brushes. Almost all apps lack good blending tools. They provide smudge tools, but they don't feel very organic. I am more into traditional media style and currently use Rebelle on Windows, either on surface pro or paired with Samsung S8+ through superdisplay. That works pretty well, but a solid art app for like Rebelle is what I am hoping to see on tablet platforms, especially Android.

Well… I have a feeling you had zero intension of looking into this tablet, even if it had expandable storage. Both Lenovo and Samsung have stylus support and run Clip Studio if that’s what you need. And since you went iPad, it’s obvious you value procreate to expandable storage. Personally there are pros and cons to both. I lean iPad, but there are totally valid reasons to go Android. What Brad failed to say about this tablet is how some of the extra bells and whistles work. I saw another review, and the guy did a really big deep dive on this tablet and it has a ton of cool features and flexibility, but the video was like 30 minutes long and the guy always had to go deep inside the menus, and it just reminded me why I don’t like using android as my main device. Sometimes one just wants out of the box features to go well and just get into my apps. I mean it’s cool to adjust performance settings on your tablet, but it shouldn’t be a 15 minute puzzle to get to it 😂

Binge-watching on the OnePlus Pad is a dream come true! The screen is incredible for movies and shows - super sharp and immersive. Plus, the speakers are surprisingly loud for a tablet, making the sound fantastic. Battery life rocks too, lasting a full day of browsing and streaming. The only snag? This thing can be a little slippery, especially when I'm out and about. To fix that, I'm thinking of a matte black TPU skin. Extra grip for holding this beauty and screen protection from scratches from gadgetshieldz, all without sacrificing the Pad's sleek design. Boom! Problem solved, style on point.

Lag is caused by the Processor / CPU... not being able to keep up with the Demands on it. The cheaper the device... the more likely that they will use an Under-Powered CPU. Another factor is the system Ram (Memory). If your drawing is at a very High Resolution... it can eat up a lot of your systems ram. Especially, if you have many active Layers. Raw files (while you are working), are much larger than the final image file-size (fully flattened image). As such, if the system runs out of system ram... it will have to resort to going back and forth between the Hard Drive, and the system Ram. This juggling act, will vastly slow down the entire systems performance levels... Another thing to realize... that if the programs are lagging with only some basic line art... Be aware that as you add more colors, complexity, and layers... things will get Even SLOWER. Some other things to note: - Battery based pens, will only last a certain amount of years of use, before the battery will no longer hold a Charge. All batteries eventually fail, but not all devices allow you to replace these custom sized batteries. - Android Apps are extremely limited, compared to full blown Windows Apps. In addition to them being more Limited in functions... it will likely be a pain to transfer things back and forth between an android device, and your PC. - There are far less quality drawing Apps for Android, compared to PC. Because its coming in at about half the cost of an Ipad Pro... Its probably better to try to save up for the Apple device. The cost difference, will be worth it, when you factor in a better user experience, as well as a longer lasting device.

I disagree on the lag part. I just got off familiarizing myself with Hipaint. And its brush lag is 100% an optimization issue. I mainly use ibispaint, and was interested in getting used to this in case I get a tablet. I understand processors and RAM well, not professionally, but well enough. And my phone runs on a snapdragon 732G @120Hz Compared to the dimensity 9000, it's not even close to the outer fringes of its performance lol. But, based on my workflow using Ibispaint, it's more than powerful enough to render out more than 25 layers of 4k work (Over 4096 pixels) effectively. I don't just do digital drawing, I do graphic/UI design as well, hence I also use blur effects a lot, guassian and lens blurs. ^ These effects are definite lag bringers, especially on a high res work and mid - low power processors. And when you're *somehow* going past 35 layers, in 4K, with multiple details, the layer list in ibispaint will start to stutter. But Hipaint? It has lag in its brush menu...while simply scrolling. Its chalk brushes lag severely behind my finger when drawing in just 2000*2000 pixels. Which is weird. Overall, I see what they're going for and I'm definitely looking forward to using it on my future tablet, but it needs more optimization.

As for your stating android apps being limited (while somewhat true) it's not as bad as you think. At this point I don't require a PC to do my work. Whatever it is, It's possible on Android. That's until I start working on extremely large projects when thousands of megabytes of storage, and ultra rendering performance becomes necessary. And as for it being difficult to transfer your drawing files, the top players in the android art space have either PC ports or completely windows made apps. Ibispaint is now on windows, and medibang paint has been for years. Autodesk sketchbook as well. Ibispaint and medibang have cloud services (ibispaint's you have to pay for, you only get a few megs for free) or you could just transfer over the app's native save file format to your PC using your cable/nearby share and resume your work. I don't think it's that difficult to use a cable if not wireless sharing. But of course not all android art software has PC ports, but the most used apps do.

The quality of most art apps is for sure worse on Android that's undeniable. Even just compared to iOS/ipados lol

@@JstormZx You should understand, that certain apps, are far more resource demanding than others. For example... its one thing to do simply vector work... and quite another, to do realtime paint-brush simulation. The higher the complexity of the engine... the more Lag will become a factor. Some years ago... I was testing an IPad pro at a Bestbuy store. I think it was 1st or 2nd generation... but it might have been a bit later. Anyway... I was using one of the paint programs on it... and I was surprised that I was getting Lag on it... after only a little bit of messing around. Of course, Im even familiar with my older PCs having lag issues, while using my Wacom drawing tablet. The fault was never the tablet... but the amount of ram and CPU usage, for the demanding drawing programs I was using (like Corel's "Painter"). Ive been into computers since the days of windows 95, on the PC end of things. And my first PC was a Commodore 64, when I was a little kid. I build and repair PCs, and laptops. Heck, Ive ever repaired a few Macs. Sure, software can be Optimized to perform "Better". However, there will always be limitations to what it can do, in regards to the hardware. This is why Android apps often have a ton of features cut out of them... to help prevent performance issues. Android devices have ramped up in their potentials over the years. As such, the software has also increased in allowed specs / features. That said, Android devices will never compete with a full blown PC workstation. Even mid to higher end Laptops, are not on par with the performance of a good PCs hardware... as they utilize a reduced performance CPU, and are centered on low power consumption, for longest battery life. Of course, if you or others do not know... Many smaller sized PCs, have Laptop parts inside of them... rather than standard PC motherboards / CPUs. This makes them cheaper.. and smaller... but FAR slower than actual PC hardware. All of this said, IMO, the price is way too high for this. Personally, Id choose to use a PC, with a large, Battery Free, Pen Display Tablet, over these type of devices. I suppose I will end in saying, that there is performance competition coming.. from specialized chipsets. Such as Apples M2. This is making portable devices a lot more powerful, than they ever used to be. Of course, the more advanced software is slow to be supported by the new hardware...

@@johndough8115 yeah. I get you. A *proper* PC art-station is far superior to whatever android device you may pick up at least for now. But then, the problem lies in portability. I'd very much prefer to use my PC and drawing tablet at home if I had them... but if I'm out, I'll need something good, powerful enough to do work, and I can't bring my PC along to work. My decision has been to get an ipad as my portable workspace. Because optimization and device power is overflowing there. iPhones to me are pointless, because I'll never properly resonate with iOS, but the hardware+software communication on it and on ipadOS are going to help out a lot better than my current status: Though not bad, but could be better. And only the iPad is all I'm ever going to touch from apple's ecosystem.

For nearly $500 wouldn’t it be better to just get a galaxy tablet? You can even get a ninth generation iPad for that price.
