OnePlus Open Review + Unplanned Drop Test (Oppo Find N3)

Ғылым және технология

The OnePlus Open, aka Oppo Find N3, is a foldable phone with two excellent screens, and a triple camera system with large image sensors (relative to other foldable phones).
The new main camera uses Sony's new pixel-stacked LYTIA sensor that can take in more light. there is also a 64MP Periscope zoom lens that can do 3x optical zoom.

We like the slider because its a convenient piece of tactile functionality we can switch between without taking the phone out. ie in a movie theater, in a meeting, out with friends, going to bed, waking up. Having to navigate a bright screen when you need to change sound profiles isn't always convenient. In a world where everything is making everything digital having physical functionality is a luxury.

they are my two considerations too. on hardware i like the v2 better. its camera set is not as good but since i use an oppo x6 pro i have that covered. but then the open uses the same charger as the x6 pro and communicate with the x6 pro better. tough to make a decision.

@@OoWINDEXoO not all of them will. it is not worth the effort. it is like asking apple to release a mac that can run windows. you can do it but it is not as easy as you think. chinese cell phones have a different eco system. people use different set of apps and the os even hardward are tailored for those apps. just like chinese complain about samsung's software and samsung has given up on trying to improve, i think many chinese brands have given up on the west. it is shame. the west has fewer options and the lack of competition allow apple and samsung to be lazy. magic.v2 will have a global rom next year. i think it is much better than anything available now and judging by how samsung is doing i would guess the z fold 6 will be another so so product.

good to see you again, OO/N3 is so far the best value in at least in NA market, (I mean it's vs Samsung and Google so) and yea the photo compared to X6pro doesn't seem bad, seen GSM Arena's shots and Robin from Wekihome's comparison, they did really good job at the camera. maybe except for motion photos? like Marques says, But so far this and MagicV2 (can do horizontal split) is one of 2 favs in the foldable market. I think Huawei and Xiaomi will catch up with 4th gen but it would be next year. (or they can do it with software update but no promises) OnePlus and Honor are only CN companies looking at global market with foldable for now so I appreciate what they are doing, and what they are bringing to the international market.

Awesome review and thanks for the comparisons to the China-only foldables. Having only the Samsung Z Fold5 and Google Pixel Fold as the only book style foldables in the US has been such a bummer. Having another contender in the US market is huge...I've been super jealous of what folks in China have access to! I have had the last four generations of the Samsung Z Fold but I think I'm ready to give OnePlus a shot with the sweet trade in offer Ben described. Thanks!

Excellent review! That drop scared even me. My Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 fell off my grill and outside screen shattered! I had to replace screen myself looking at Chinese videos since it's not sold here in the US. Thankfully it wasn't too hard and the screen was cheap. I am so glad OnePlus has brought this to the US. I have pre-ordered already. It was $1499 if ordered through OnePlus app and I traded in my iPhone 14 Pro Max plus I got $30 off for subscription to OnePlus. Honor really messed up waiting until next year to release V2 global! I have Vs global and was really hoping to get the V2 but they might've just lost out. (just kidding I'll probably buy it anyway as I'm a foldable fiend)

So the larger sensors make a massive difference 😊🙌. The larger camera sensors are indisputably better than the smaller camera sensors. 🙏💯💪🏾👍🏾. That drop there is serious and it is a testament to foldables sturdiness. On the software side of things the ability to access the file app and the app bar while running other apps is the definition of fluidity and ease of use. Nothing is more satisfying to open the file app and to access all your photos and then drop them into a messaging app like messenger or WhatsApp.

I *so* want this! I've wanted a folding phone for a while now, but *really* thinking over it, recently I've come to the conclusion that if I were to replace my normal phone with a folding phone, it would *have* to have a normal sized screen, and a bonus of maybe being not that hefty or thick too. This seems to be a pretty good weight plus a good normal sized outer screen, plus I am in love with the hardware design! My only issue is still the lack of in-screen fingerprint readers. The Vivo X Fold had that, yet nobody else has copied it yet. The way I use my phone, those readers work perfectly, and having to switch to a side mounted reader feels like it would ruin the flow of using my phone every time I wanted to unlock it. Anyway... It's just the price of these things that's my biggest issue. For me, a folding screen would be an "extra feature" that's nice to have, and idk if I can justify $1,000 more just for that one feature. So if a foldable like this ever comes down in price, either because its a new one with cheaper specs, or a refurbished old one, I might pick it up. Until then, I can deal with slightly smaller videos on my phone screen lol I have a tablet, but it's usually more of a hassle to bring it out then anything. It doesn't mesh well into my daily workflow when I can just deal with a slightly smaller screen for a bit before I am able to get on my PC for full screen viewing. But if I had a foldable, I could actually watch things in a bigger screen while away from my PC! And in my case, I never have to multi-task in such a heavy way that it would require a bigger screen on the go. If I ever wanna be doing multiple things, again, I can just wait until I'm at my PC.

I think the major critisism on the fragility is the inner display cracking by itself, being protected when folded and having a flad outer display makes a lot of difference on making it resistant to drops or other damage. I've had the Fold 3 with the inner screen showing cracks by itself 10 months in, replaced it under warranty but sold it because I couldn't be thinking about it daily in case it happened again.

9:35 in most camera sensors the photodiodes (the thing that actually captures light) and all its required wiring are on the same layer so some of the space are taken up by the wiring, while in a stacked sensor all the photodiodes are on one layer while the wiring are below it, which means you can cram in more photodiodes on the same layer and capture more light in the same surface area
