Lol thanks, not sure if you're being sarcastic :) I sometimes enjoy getting my thoughts out in this format. I hope people can agree or disagree with me. Perhaps I can understand something new about what I'm hearing or my biases.

Just found this channel, coming from your other channel. I really appreciate these videos please make more! Very cool to hear your perspective. I heard the x9000 at an audio show and it didn’t blow me away but that’s not a great test environment. I’m also a 007mk1 owner but currently only have a 323s, hopefully will upgrade this one day

Cool thanks! Yea, I've been enjoying my 007mk1 + Carbon so much. It's difficult to make time for a video, especially with other day to day activities lol. Yes, I also own a 007tA and kgsshv 500V. I find that the Carbon is the best amp for my headphones, but I'm a solid state guy (convenience, microdynamics). I've been trying to brew up an amp video for a couple months. In the last 2 years, I've realized that it takes months in order to make audio assessments, especially with high end audio. Any conclusions made in less than a month is probably premature.

@@longtech yeah I agree with this statement it can take a while to make a concrete assessment of a product. They take years to develop, I’d imagine it be normal to take months to truly find a final conclusion

@@SomeHandleIGuess yea, you can definitely make a quicker conclusion about the headphone if you are intimate with the DAC and amp in the chain. Otherwise, you'd need a lot of time with it in your own home, trying to switch back and forth many times throughout a month lol

I had a similar experience when comparing the x9000 to the sr-omega regardless of the system used. That said, I’m not a fan of the 007 in any version, but I can understand the appeal. I think it’s possible an all tube design amp, similar to the hev90 for the he90 Orpheus, might get the x9000 closer to the middle. Perhaps Mjolnir will re-release a megatron for us.

Hi! What version and serial range was the 007mk1 you tried, and also on which amp / DAC?

I recently was able to compare the mk1 71xx off a Mjolnir carbon and tier 1 dac to the sr-omega (early version) and x9000. I own the x9000 and have owned an mk2 port mod 007 in the past. The sr-omega is by far the best of the group. The x9000 has its merits and I’m hoping with different amplifier it can work. Not a fan of the 007. Idk just find it really boring and don’t enjoy the timber. I also really hate the 009/009s because it’s too harsh for me (owned for about 6 months). CRBN is okay but over a while the lack of high got to me.

The alcohol in the lens wipes is likely stripping the dye from the pads.

Hi! Yes, it's possible, I use the same wipes on my 007's pads and haven't had any issues with the dye fading. It's a very very minor issue on the sr-x9k; probably shouldn't have even included it :)

Interesting review, thanks. Will get my 9000 in a couple of months probably, didn't heard them before, so kinda risky buy for me... But I own 009 for about 6-8 years now and I love them, compared them to a few versions of 007 and for Me 009 is better, it's just for me 009 is more close to "classic" STAX signature sound witch I fall in love since 507 model, 007 for me is kinda planar sounding electrostats and it's "not my cup of tea"... I also own KGSS HV Carbon, so really appreciate your opinion that it's good for X9000, but I still hope that they will sound great with my other amp, WooAudio WES, which IMO is overall (Carbon is bit better in speed and it superior in bass... WES is better in overall resolution, superior in timbres, and in all other aspects I find it better...) better sounding than Carbon, at least with 009 (IMO WES is awful with 007, WES probably don't have enough power to drive 007 as they should be...)... So again, thanks for your thoughts, will be hearing my 9000 keeping them in mind! P.S. Don't know much about a DAC you are usng, I may be wrong, but is seems not very "high end", did compare it with other DACs of higher price range? Again, I might be wrong, but according to my experience with 009 (I own dCS Debussy DAC), they are very merciless to any issue in your system, if 9000 is like that (or maybe even more so), then maybe some issues in 9000 sound is actually some issues in system...

Hi! Yes, I haven't owned any super high end dacs, but I have tried 6-7 DACs with the x9000 ranging from $400-2500 and find that the topping d90le is the best of the bunch. It's very difficult to eliminate variables in high end audio because we're often comparing subtle / minor differences that are also confounded by our poor audio memories. So far, I'm still in love with my 007mk1 + carbon + d90le, it's essentially perfect to me, I would prefer a little more brightness, but it doesn't bother me at all.

@@longtech Thanks for a reply. I would recommend to try 9000 and 007 with high end DACs (maybe some dCS stuff or Weiss), it might (or might not) change your perspective... It's also very important what cables you are using (I have a lot of different ones, like Shunyata Anaconda ZTron, NBS Black Label II, Voodoo Electra and others... they all have some pros and cons in sound, so it's a tough "job" to find best match in the system, but it also a fun part of the "journey" to find your ideal sound...), what digital transport (using macmini with a custom linear PSU for now, planning to change it to dCS Bridge in the future), what is power supply situation at your home (I have a couple of power regenerators), that stuff REALLY matters with the level of Carbon and 009, so it probably mean a lot to 9000 (probably to 007 as well)... But overall all of that it's don't change the conceipt of the sound of heaphones, so if 9000 is not "your cup of tea" in thes regard, then you right and should stick to the 007... P.S. I kinda hope I will not like 9000 that much compared to my 009, that way I can sell 9000 and buy dCS Bridge right away, and still have some money to maybe upgrade my vynil rig a little and/or just buy a bunch of LPs for it 😁

@@TheDragonOwen lol yes, high end audio can get silly. I haven't bought a high end dac because they're more difficult to return / try out. I wish more DAC companies allowed people to return or trial their DACs. So far, I'm so satisfied with my d90le that I can't find any fault in the way it presents what I think is just the music. I had a schiit flagship DAC where I thought the music sounded better for almost all songs, but after I while, I thought that the DAC manipulated the music to create a more grounded soundstage. I have little motivation to try out another DAC, but perhaps one day lol.

If you have, do give feedback against Perun Rock 2, because some commented it sound natural. Oh yeah, do review again when you have R2R dac on X9000, as to my ears, DS dac does not sound as natural to older R2R chip like PCM63P-Y, coming from sr1a experience.
