I don't know if many people think about this but we are the first to be able to watch movies filmed a 100 years ago. What I love about watching these old movies is that though they are meant for entertainment, they do give us a real view into the era they were filmed.

I was a sailor both age 21 when we were married 1966 and just like this movie very lovingly happy, but again one year later my wife wanted to call it off. It was both our faults, but we talked it out many times, in good times and many bad, a few very hard ones with nothing, but we tuff it out, ours marriage lasted 47 years until her health failed in March 2013, miss her every day, glad she doesn't have to see this world now 2021

Very unusual structure of a story at that time. The twist is just the same texture with real life, half sweet and half bitter, well balanced by the hearts from different walks of lives. Love this rare little thing!

Boy, how many subplots can you stuff into one movie?!? Another perfect example of when movies were so clean and family-oriented, not like movies today. Well, ok, except for the extramarital affairs, the golddiggers, suicide, cheating the law, fights, killing, sickness, smart aleck kids..... The kid is Jackie Searl, who was pretty big before WWII playing smart aleck and/or rich kids. He kept working in bit parts after the war, but by that time he lost his youth appeal.

80s Beginner: Is your comment below meant to be a spoiler? If so, here's a spoiler alert to those who haven't watched the movie. Don't read 80s Beginner's comment. It tells the whole story in some sort of off-kilter rhyme. Don't know if it's meant to be bad or good. Great, tight little movie, though. Well worth seeing if you don't read the spoiler. My question is: 80s Beginner, why did you feel it necessary to ruin the movie for the rest of us? Just asking. Oh, and Trolls, no need to comment. We're all onto your nastiness! :0) DBB

Like A Take of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, the end in the movie with Ronald Coleman where he switched places with the man who was supposed to die. He goes to prison, and again switched places with a girl who was to be executed before him and chose to die in her place. " Tis a better thing I do than I've ever done before....... Heartbreaking.
