I love how huge the originals looked, their width paired with the height made them so intimidating. The new tower is beautiful as well, but it doesn't have that same empowering feeling to it imo.

I feel it mainly has to do with the fact 1WTC gets narrower and narrower as it reaches the top, the Twins were a consistent width all the way up (save for the mechanical floors which jutted out a bit) which made them look more imposing and badass

The shock of that awful day had, for me, just started to wear off. As time went on, I wasn't so sure whether or not the new building should be called The World Trade Center or the The Freedom Tower. However, a couple of years ago, I was in Manhattan and I took the subway down to The World Trade Center. I came up from the station and I saw this giant sign that said World Trade Center. That was an awesome moment! I said to myself that The World Trade Center is back!!

Unfortunately had they still existed today, the Twins would have likely become lost in the sea of ever growing modern skyscrapers in lower Manhattan. Especially since there wouldn’t be any cap saying how high you could build based on 1,776 feet like NYC incorporated to keep 1WTC the tallest building (including spire) in NYC. It’s possible that more and more skyscrapers would get close to or even surpass the twins in height.

Strictly talking about the buildings, the architect for the original towers hated the idea of all glass for several good reasons. In my view, it looks nice, not ugly, but it doesn’t look “New York” the way the old buildings did. They were clean but gritty, gothic but timelessly modern. They said something when looking at them that this building just doesn’t. Besides that, this building doesn’t really seem to match the surrounding architecture as well.

I can‘t say they‘re ugly because they have defined new york‘s skyline for ages but rebuilding them 1:1 wouldn’t be a great idea regardless. It‘s about moving on and recreating something even better than has been. And I think that has been achieved with one world trade center

It will Not correct things, it will Not bring anyone back nor remove the horror that took place. People have severe anguish & anxiety & many lives were lost horribly. It was a terrible terrible day for everyone. .... To rebuild a replica would be to remind many of that Horrible day. *It will Not correct things, it will Not bring anyone back nor remove the horror that took place* To which is exactly why they should not have not made another tower then. The fact is that even by going into the new single tower People will still think of what happened on 9/11 and you cannot ecch that out of Peoples minds (even if the new one is only just a single building). *People have severe anguish & anxiety & many lives were lost horribly* The towers still existed past 1993 when a truck bombing which killed 6 and injured many more took place yet they did not take them down due to the terror which was caused there. Even more examples like this is that the Madrid trains got bombed yet no one got rid of their train system (even thou Spaniards and anyone who paid attention to the knew know about the train bombing).

I think the one world is a memorial to the victims that lost their lives. A building where you can see the reflection of the sky above, and where we feel more closer to the ones that lost their lives. I think it is so imortant for that area to be beautiful, not messy, peaceful looking, and where you can remember but also think about the future. When i went there in 2014, well i felt it needed a park beside the two memorials, in which the busy street wouldnt be seen, and you could sit down and breath. I hope that there is more greenery there one day. Flowers and such, and not just all balt.

You should also know the difference between the term of "Buildings" and "Towers". It is classified as "Building" only if at least 50% of its height is made up of floor plates containing continuously habitable floor area. While "Tower" is a tall structure, always taller than it is wide, meant for public or regular operational access by humans, but not for living in or office work, and are self-supporting or free-standing, which means no wires for support.

the building is really beautiful, and somehow, at least it seems to me, it is a kind of tribute to the missing towers, because depending on how you look, it may seem like the towers in some way, and so new generations can get an idea of the effect that had those buildings so high in this same place, so I think the design is successful , and at the same time, innovative, because despite what happened, we must look forward, and although I also liked the twin towers, I think it is better to have built this building, and start a new chapter in the history of new york, architecturally speaking. Well, the environment of the building is magnificent, I think the area is one of the best in Manhattan.

I believe the main problem with this tower compared to the original WTC is that it doesn't have a plaza, a place where you can freely travel around the complex without having to step on the road, not even the Empire State, the most iconic skyscraper in NYC has a plaza, because guess what, it's a single building not a complex like the WTC, so not having a way to connect them other than being close makes them feel disconnected, almost like they could be independent buildings instead of looking like vassals of the Twins like in the original WTC, which is one of the main reasons they looked so intimidating, I like the symbolic meaning of the og towers now being pools, but they honestly just seem like a waste of space to have two massive pools in one of the most important zones of Manhattan, and if their intention of not rebuilding the towers in the first place was to not make relatives of the victims remember them, why would you make a whole park basically dedicated for people to remember them?

I think the design of the new One World Trade Center looks great, the other designs look pretty bad though especially the one that looks like a bunch of stacked boxes like someone was playing a game of Tetris and really sucked at it. Why can't they just build two and have them both look the same as the new One World Trade Center? i think that would be great because again it would be twin towers but it wouldn't look exactly the same because i think to just make them exactly the same wouldn't be right either. It has to convey newness and hope for the future as well as remembrance and our ability to rebuild and i don't feel the designs of the other ones fit that, they just look too different.

This is my 2nd favorite building of all time and my 1st best building that is still standing today. I think this tower is beautiful and looks amazing, my only two faults are 1, there is only one of them whilst the original had two and 2, rebuilding the original Twin Towers as they were from the outside would have been better and New York would have claimed it's beautiful skyline again, this is just my personal opinion. However, I do appreciate the New Tower been built and I understand that a lot of compromises were made so that everyone got a bit of what they wanted in the end, including myself. We got a new tower, a new mall, a memorial for the original Twin Towers so I am grateful for this beautiful area and been able to remember all those who died on that awful day when we lost our beautiful towers.

This is good. They painted this building so that it reflects the sky (being more invisible from the sky) and is in less visible place so that the terrorists can't find it so easy. It is 1,776 feet tall which matches the 'year of US Independence'. C'mon, be grateful.

It's not 1776 feet tall. The toothpick they added on top shouldn't count towards anything. It's a half ass effort to reach a cheesy height.

@@Cruz474 Just like you could have a rough life without your eyes the same thing goes for that toothpick. That 'toothpick' is an antenna without which a modern building can't exist. If the building was 1,776 feet tall the antenna would add more height to it and not much attracted the people's attention. They did an excellent job making this building.

1.) Wth? It’s not painted at all. It’s simply covered in glass from the outside and imagine this: glas reflects! 😲 2.) Wtf? It’s hard to spot for terrorist just because it reflects its surroundings? It’s a giant tower! The only people who don’t see the tower immediately are blind people. 3.) I want to know what kind of drugs you’re taking? I want to be as stupid, naive and careless as you because life is easier that way.
