That last point he made about recording everything and being positive when collaborating and then decide later if some of it gets thrown out, sounds so obvious when he puts it like that, yet i know from experience how easily it can go the other and like he says , nothing gets done at all. Better to make a load of stuff that's not good and doesn't get used than not make anything at all. The latter will destroy your enthusiasm and love for producing.

How does similar sounding music make collecting old gear 'pointless and vanity'? The sound of a violin has been the same since ages, and yet people are still composing new music for it. All this old gear is nothing more than instruments from another time. Just because the instruments are the same doesn't mean the record is going to sound the same. Originality does not depend on timbre alone.
