What I also like about the middleweight division is the amount of story lines, they are all connected one way or another and the fighters are so entertaining

Imagine calling Ankalaev a grappler at this point in the championship

It's interesting to see that Middleweight and Light Heavyweight will essentially switch places. Middleweight used to be (still kind of is) the historic striking division with champions like Silva, Adesanya, Pereira, Strickland, and now DDP. Light Heavyweight of course used to be run by Jones, and we also had DC.

@@Ake-TL you see, I don’t really think that’s accurate. his ground game and his ground and pound is what gives him the extra threat on the feet is what I’m seeing. He well rounded, but not “a historic striker”. His name does not belong beside the others listed in terms of his striking merits. I’m not saying he’s not skilled, but it’s the fact he’s the complete package of mma skills and a physical specimen that he’s finding success. Not that he just has insane striking ability. He swings and missed all the time, for example.

@@liquidketamine8562 yeah ever single fighter in the MMA scene has trained striking? Does that make every fighter a historic fighter? My point is he’s not of the caliber of any of the other strikers you listed when it comes to striking. If you take into account his full MMA skills, yes he is on their level, but that is because he’s not a one dimensional pure, elite level striker, like Izzy or Alex.

HW: the baddest fighters, they would beat everyone in the planet.

You should do your favorite past fight in every weight class

Man the light heavyweight division has come int its own in the last few years, the names alone at the top hold a lot of draw power and now with Alex at the top followed but nothing but killers, I think we’ll start seeing that division look more like light weight in terms of popularity (maybe not as close but way closer than it ever has) in a couple more years, you get the size of the heavyweights but the speed and striking skills of the lower weight classes. Man am I excited to see where this division is at, at the end of the year

Middleweight was kinda dead during the end of Izzy's reign- he looped the division and his title defences were less interesting than his contender fights. Now there's tons of movement and uncertainty and that's exciting

Middle weight is not stacked, only has like 7 or 8 tough guys. Light weight is a little overrated but it’s still one of the toughest divisions as the top 8 are strong with the rest of the division also being scary.
