One Tarp Tent - Make a simple tent (with a floor and a door) for $15
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
How to make a One Tarp Tent! Robert Berg demonstrates how to make a simple tent with just one tarp, one piece of rope, one pole, and four stakes. Total cost: About $15. Total time: 5-10 minutes. Save money and time next time you go camping!
Materials needed:
-Tarp (12'x16')
-10' Rope
-8' Pole
-4+ Stakes
-Hammer or a rock to pound in the stakes
NOTE: The tarp's dimensions must be a ratio of 4:3. If you would like to build a bigger or smaller tent, just scale all the dimensions appropriately. (eg: 15' x 20' tarp, with a 10' pole and a 12-15' rope).

Gentle teacher. Nice tent. Enjoyed.
Very nice. Thank you. Love from Canada
One of the better Tarp Shelters Bob. Well done.
saved hundreds of dollar, Thank you sir
love this!
I been using a tarp in this manner a long time I use a slightly different method But the outcome is the same I also ad some tie lines to the sides gathering up a plastic bag and looping the rope over gives it a chipmunk cheeks and gives some additional room inside I also come up the spine about 5 feet and add a line to give it a small amount of headroom for when reclined Good job
Brilliant! A tarp tent you can stand up in!
Thanks for your smart and kind instruction. It will inspire my next configuration but with lighter and more convenient materials.
Perfect! Just what I was looking for. I have a 10x16 canvas tarp that should work good with this set up. Thank you!!
Easy and clear, great visual aid, Thank you.
Thanks, Bob, you're a lifesaver.
This is awesome... thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you for your video...quik and easy survival shelter.
That’s an awesome setup!!!
Awesome, I learnt another setup. Thanks for the video
Good, very good indeed! Congratulations and thank you for class.
A set up like this will stand out and look badass in camping grounds! Mind people sneer at ya.
Thanks a lot for this very helpful video! This was the most convenient and roomy tarp tent for me. I camped outdoors for the first time and set up was so easy!
I love it very much thanks for your simple doing
Absolutely simple, effective and inovative. Thank you. This gives me a great alternative to backpack camping!
Damn thats a nice setup got to go get me a new tarp now
Amazing video. Loved it
Nice video Bob thanks for sharing
Excellent tent! You could easily sew a zipper along that opening too and make a tent you could close 👍
Great video. Easy and cheap.
Watched all of it, great video thanks
Thanks, I'll try that next time I'm out!
Great Video. Shjort , sharp and to the point. Thanks for sharing. ATB

Good job Bob! All I need is a twin to help me set up!
Awesome knowledge... Thank you
I'll be darned. Thats the most clever way I've seen someone use a single tarp for shelter
Best tarp tent setup I've seen yet.
Thanks Bob. Very handy!
Thank you very much for watching?? We thank you very much for sharing. This very helpful. You'r a real nice person 😊🙏
Thanks Bob. Nice vid.
Thanks will be using this set up a lot.
Well done!
Wow bless you sir and your glorious moustache
tq, very simple...u r a good teacher...👍
So, if you're ever in a survival situation, make sure you're carrying a nail. :) There are a lot of different videos out there showing various ways to make shelters quickly and (mostly) easily with a tarp. Lots of options. I think I'd prefer some of the other options that end up being a little smaller, but have a better weather seal. That big door held closed by a couple of ties would be great in warm weather, but not in the cold or wind.
Exactly what I was looking for. And legendary mustache, by the way.
This is freakin awesome good stuff
That really neat!!
Very useful. Thanks.
Excelentísimo! Justo lo que necesito para dentro de poco pasar unas noches en las montañas aqui en Córdoba, Argentina Graciad

great video thank you, just one question how would you make a tent with out the ground sheet floor so the tent bigger on the inside
Best I've seen, yet.
Awesome! Thank you heaps!
great video. this is exactly I was looking for, to do a backyard camp tent. I see like 30 people say dislike -- i don't get what could be really wrong.

Well there are weaknesses to this design . A three sided pyramid with a floor made from a single rectangular tarp means you end up with a structure that’s impractically high for the square footage of floor space provided and that square footage isn’t laid out in the best way to both be sheltered from bad weather and get some rest, but that’s not so much the fault of the design but just the simple reality of expecting too much from a single piece of fabric and a single support structure. You’re trying to protect your self from the elements (mostly wind and wet) and the best protection from that is to place yourself to as many folds and as few junctions as possible (junction being where edges or corners meet and there is a gap (no matter how small) where wind and wet can get in) but in a tarp tent these folds are general acute angles from at the lease on of three planes and that means they are in the part of the tent that either got low clearance , bends the body into an angle, usually both
Great info and presentation. Thanks.

great vid great setup
Love that!
That’s perfect!
I like the fact that the pole is at the entrance, instead of in the middle of the tarp. Guess I'll buy 12×16 and try this next camping trip, and just use my 10×10 as a ground cover. Thanks👍
Love it. Great idea
This is very useful. Will try it. A bit concerned on the floor if it rains. Will need some kind ground sheet i guess. Great video!!

Actually there is only a small triangle of floor that is left uncovered at the front. If you stow your gear on one side and put your sleeping bag on the other you will stay dry. I have spent many a rainy night in this tent with no problems. Thanks for the comment.
thank YOU
Ha! Kewl! Although I'm kinda torn. It's good to know how to do but hard to imagine the day you really need it to be a pleasant day hehe! :D
Very good 👍
Thanks man.
Nice tent
What's the best tarp tent that I've seen.
Saved and shared
I’m thinking that a smaller version of this could be done with a 10x12 tarp. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you sir
nice, thanks
Nice Thank you
This is awesome, thanks. Would it be feasible to put a fire in front of the door or will that burn away the rope? If so, how could I get around that?

Sorry to answer so late. You can tie the pole off to a tree or use two stakes set at angles to the front of the tent.
Cool video! Do you think Teton XXL Cot could fit inside that set up? I think the cot is about 7ft long and 3.5ft wide.
@robertberg588

Most likely.
Do you stake both ends of the back ?
Im using metric system aa being swede. But i guess 12 x 16 feet is about 3.66 m × 4.89 meters. Would this size be able to squeese in 2 persons ?
@robertberg588

It can certainly be done- it is a close fit.
nice geometry origami 1+1=2 and thats how you get 7 and a half brilliant!!!
Decent 👍
Instead of pulling each side of the door out and tying it you can Velcro each piece of the door so when you are inside or if it’s raining you can Velcro the door shut
He has a castle in the back yard. Can tell me the earth is a banana and I’ll believe it
nice...
thanks
What are the approximate measurements of the tent standing with the 12x16 tarp?
@robertberg588
4 жыл бұрын
Using a tarp that is 12'x16' the tent is 8' tall by 8' wide in the front and the distance from the front corners is 11'4" approximately. There is ample room for 2 people and lots of gear. The part of the floor that is covered by tarp is 37 square feet, with an additional triangle of about 8 square feet of ground inside the tent but not covered on the ground. The uncovered area lets air into the tent.

Hello, could you tell me what are the floor dimensions once the tent is up?
@robertberg588
6 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size of the tarp you use. You can make a miniature version of the tent by folding a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper in the shape of the tent and calculate the size using ratios. Hope that helps.

"Who rang that bell!"
floor is the half that is folded under ?
@robertberg588

the floor is made from the two back corners folded under the tent.
Always bring 2 tarps. One for the tent, one on the ground or both for a big tent.

Tent with one, flysheet with the other for extra protection.
My granddaughter and I make this shelter when she visits.
Wouldn't it tear up the cloth
Use 7' pole for more room inside
Too bad you didn't bring the camera inside the thing that show us what's inside

I think you skipped a step in the video editing. Didn't see how you made the floor. What is the sq ft of the interior?

I agree, the most important step in folding the paper was cut out.
@StuckInNy

Richard Pethel This is the best idea out there yet. What he did was, staked the back of the tent, at the fold, then moved to the front of the fold, to set the post. After that, the two back corners are pulled in to create the floor. He just didn't show it, and went to the two front corners. Great idea it is. I would use two poles tied together at the top. Pull them out to the front corners, could still tie the tarp door closed, but have larger door, or open the front fly to the poles. Great idea!
@StuckInNy

Richard Pethel Also, if in a hurry, you could attach the top front up on a tree, and go from there.
@StuckInNy

Richard Pethel Lol, for that matter, when you attached the front of the tarp yo a tree, you could run one end of the rope down to the back stake. Would make it a little stronger for rain or snow.
That is a two-person job, there is a much easier way that one person can do it.
