One Tarp Tent - Make a simple tent (with a floor and a door) for $15

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to make a One Tarp Tent! Robert Berg demonstrates how to make a simple tent with just one tarp, one piece of rope, one pole, and four stakes. Total cost: About $15. Total time: 5-10 minutes. Save money and time next time you go camping!
Materials needed:
-Tarp (12'x16')
-10' Rope
-8' Pole
-4+ Stakes
-Hammer or a rock to pound in the stakes
NOTE: The tarp's dimensions must be a ratio of 4:3. If you would like to build a bigger or smaller tent, just scale all the dimensions appropriately. (eg: 15' x 20' tarp, with a 10' pole and a 12-15' rope).

I been using a tarp in this manner a long time I use a slightly different method But the outcome is the same I also ad some tie lines to the sides gathering up a plastic bag and looping the rope over gives it a chipmunk cheeks and gives some additional room inside I also come up the spine about 5 feet and add a line to give it a small amount of headroom for when reclined Good job

So, if you're ever in a survival situation, make sure you're carrying a nail. :) There are a lot of different videos out there showing various ways to make shelters quickly and (mostly) easily with a tarp. Lots of options. I think I'd prefer some of the other options that end up being a little smaller, but have a better weather seal. That big door held closed by a couple of ties would be great in warm weather, but not in the cold or wind.

Well there are weaknesses to this design . A three sided pyramid with a floor made from a single rectangular tarp means you end up with a structure that’s impractically high for the square footage of floor space provided and that square footage isn’t laid out in the best way to both be sheltered from bad weather and get some rest, but that’s not so much the fault of the design but just the simple reality of expecting too much from a single piece of fabric and a single support structure. You’re trying to protect your self from the elements (mostly wind and wet) and the best protection from that is to place yourself to as many folds and as few junctions as possible (junction being where edges or corners meet and there is a gap (no matter how small) where wind and wet can get in) but in a tarp tent these folds are general acute angles from at the lease on of three planes and that means they are in the part of the tent that either got low clearance , bends the body into an angle, usually both

What are the approximate measurements of the tent standing with the 12x16 tarp?

  • @robertberg588

    @robertberg588

    4 жыл бұрын

Using a tarp that is 12'x16' the tent is 8' tall by 8' wide in the front and the distance from the front corners is 11'4" approximately. There is ample room for 2 people and lots of gear. The part of the floor that is covered by tarp is 37 square feet, with an additional triangle of about 8 square feet of ground inside the tent but not covered on the ground. The uncovered area lets air into the tent.

It depends on the size of the tarp you use. You can make a miniature version of the tent by folding a piece of 8.5 x 11 paper in the shape of the tent and calculate the size using ratios. Hope that helps.

Richard Pethel This is the best idea out there yet. What he did was, staked the back of the tent, at the fold, then moved to the front of the fold, to set the post. After that, the two back corners are pulled in to create the floor. He just didn't show it, and went to the two front corners. Great idea it is. I would use two poles tied together at the top. Pull them out to the front corners, could still tie the tarp door closed, but have larger door, or open the front fly to the poles. Great idea!

Richard Pethel Lol, for that matter, when you attached the front of the tarp yo a tree, you could run one end of the rope down to the back stake. Would make it a little stronger for rain or snow.
