Something I just realized with this live adaptation. Around 15 minutes you mention the marines would start to question Garp’s leadership after letting the Straw Hats go. Every marine there was either under the corrupt mouse dude accepting bribes or a cadet who was originally suffering under Axe Hand Morgan’s local tyranny and were in a way “saved” by Luffy showing up there. In the Anime, these cadets considered Luffy and Zoro heroes.

He's also at a sweet spot for rank. High enough to do what he wants, but low enough that no one really keeps an eye on him.

I can say it now: If One piece get season 2 - it will be 10x better. Season 1 was like "tutorial" in games. Now we will get all the lore, adventure, drama, comedy and "Lord of the rings" scale of the world.

Yeah. He was a prominent figure to the world during the Gold Roger era and was titled Hero of the Marines after a certain incident. That 2 alone granted him so much status that the marines let him get away with most things to keep him within the marines. He also refused promotion many times and choose to remain as an vice-admiral so he doesnt have to be under the direct order of the World Noble, who he hates. In his position he can just say things like “i dont know whats going on, im just a vice admiral” kinda things. Combine all that, he basically can do almost anything and still wouldnt get fired by the marines.

Usopp serves a few different roles. First, he is comic relief, but he also is the closest thing to a stand in for the audience on the crew. After all, he's the only "normal" person that's part of a crew of freakishly strong monsters (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji ...) and hyper-competent geniuses (Nami ...). Once you realize that Usopp is pretty much the everyman in the cast, you learn to appreciate how actually brave he is even if does act like a coward from time to time. Because, let's be honest, most of us would do much the same.

6:55 "What happened to the element of surprise?" yeah, that's something that was lost in adaptation. in the manga, Usopp played dead because he was too afraid to fight. but after he successfully fooled the fishman, he realized that everyone else was putting their lives on the line while he was acting like a coward. that's why he stood up and called out to his enemy. afterall, his goal is to become a brave warrior of the seas.

@@JoshTheValiant Yeah, it's going to be a great payoff considering Zoro has some of the longest named attacks of the crew. You can already see the stoic exterior cracking a bit at Baratie and with his Sanji interactions. I can't wait to see the chemistry truly blossom in Season 2, now that everyone are properly onboard with being a family and Nami is free to relax and enjoy their company. If they're already this great together after a few episodes, can you imagine the chemistry we'll have with the WHOLE crew together for the entire next season?

Yasopp, Usopp’s dad, was the one on Shanks’ left, his lost arm side, with the dreadlocks. The one that did the ricochet shot in the flashback. If you rewatch the flashback episodes you will see he wore a headband that said Yasopp on it.

It was so magical watching two people who know nothing about the source material react to everything for the first time. The moment y’all found out Luffy could stretch and also Nami’s gut wrenching scene was a spectacle.

Omg let's gooooo!! This is series stole my heart without any right to do so. Like I never watched or read One Piece and wasn't even interested in this adaptation. I only decided to watch it because I saw one too many edits but I was hooked in less than 10 minutes. I absolutely adore the cast and I've heard that a lot is different from the original but everybody still loves it. The pacing is awesome and I loooove the costumes/set dressings and all of that stuff. What an amazing show, I can't wait for season 2!

Lots of good stuff cuts off on the live action, so if you're ready to set sail, better to watch/read the original storyline, you will understand more about the character's personality.

I am so glad ya'll enjoyed your adventure in the East Blue! Can't lie, the MINUTE I got a notification you posted this reaction I immediately switched over to watch.

Without too much spoilers, but I can say that they have changed a lot of story beats in regards to Garp, and to be honest these changes work for the story of the live action. Hear me out, throughout this season, despite Luffy yelling on top of his lung about becoming "King of the Pirates", he still hasn't really commited any crimes or branded a bounty as a pirates. IMO, Garp was chasing Luffy as a final warning (and test) before his grandson becomes a legitimate outlaw. That's why at the end, Garp was like "You are on your own now, boy" i.e. Luffy will now take full responsibility and repercussions for being a pirate.

I also like to think that when Garp said "I know who you are boy" he means that Luffy follows his own code, just like he does, and he wants to make sure that Luffy doesnt sacrifice who he is just because he is a pirate

Axe Hand did do something that deserved to be punished as shown when Garp had him tied in the yard so twisting the reasons for that to make what Luffy did not illegal would have been easy It's why I think putting Garp in East Blue made sense here. His influence is strongest here and compared to shenanigans in the Grand Line it could be easily hidden still.

In this world being a priate doesn't mean you need to engage act of piracy. All you need to do is to question status quo and challenge rules... World government does want unquestionable loyalty all subject. Those who seek freedom are danger to it.

I love how the main crew did their own stunts. This is my favorite episode in the season just because of Zoro and Sanji’s fight scene. I love Taz Skylar’s kicks and just him in general.

They officially announced the renewal for season 2! Absolutely cannot wait to see this series continue.

Battle Axe gave me chills. The way he screamed at top of lungs is very Anime-like. It is main reason I watch sub over dub. The emotion in those moments are relayed way better in sub. This was a great moment. Inaki best moment I think was Battle Axe scream.

People forget that Pirates are evil, just because Luffy is good doesn't mean other Pirates are good as well, just because you see the marines as bad guys doesn't mean that they are, it's a repeating topic in the LA that Luffy is one of a kind because he's not like other Pirates, Luffy is a special case, but it isn't the same for every Pirate

To recap: Shanks' crew, Zeff, and Mihawk have been the only other "good" pirates we've seen (and that's still relative bc Zeff's backstory included attacking a merchant ship and threatening to kill Sanji by knife-edge, and Mihawk destroyed a whole crew bc they woke him up from a nap). Clearly bad pirates (with their crew) have been Mr. 7, Alvida, Buggy, Kuro, and Arlong. In comparison, I think only Garp's grp and Bellemere have been the only actual good Marines we've encountered (and Belle's an ex-Marine). Clear bad Marines would be Morgan and Nezumi.

To be honest there's a lot of pirates that were in a "grey" area S.P.O.I.L.E.R . . . . . . . . . . . Pirates like Law, Hancock, Jinbei, Fisher Tiger, Urouge, Gang Bege, Bonney, the entire Straw Hats Grand fleets, the entire Whitebeard Grand Fleets, and dare i say, even Shanks and Roger wasn't neccesarily evil, but they all have their dreams and goals and they won't hesitate to fight those in power (the marines, WG and even Celestial Dragons) in order to achieve it, hence why i'll say they were more in the grey area

The marines are undoubtedly bad guys, they're just bad guys who have a necessary function: to oppose worde guys (aka most pirates). Marines have been shown to be just as bad, ans sometimes much worse than the pirates they villify.

As a fan of nearly 15 years, watching reactions of people who are just starting out and being in full love with the show by the end...I love to see it.

One Piece sure is a great show. Seems like you all had a good time watching it.

Fact: Garp trains by using old military vessels and literal mountains as punching bags. This man is so beyond what this show has even hinted at and I cannot wait to see him fight for real

21:21 the thing about Usopp's dream, is that he basically already achieved it... The fact that he literally beat a fishman in single combat, then overcame his fear of the unknown to join our crew? That's bravery, and that's being a warrior. He's already everything he set out to be, he just needs to see it for himself. And hopefully for his dad to acknowledge him, someday.

Yeah once you see how crazy strong certain figures are among the leaders of Marines the Warlords the Emporers crews etc it makes Arlongs claims that he would rule all the seas seem absurd. Luffy's claim even seems difficult but he has WAY more potential than Arlong.

Hopefully we'll hear Zoro calling out his finishing move one day 😂 I love the banter between him and Sanji it's my favorite thing in this show

21:24 I'd argue that it's actually the hardest. Because he himself has to realize it if he'd reached it or not. Like it's not some material thing like making a map of the world like Nami's. It's more like finding/reaching enlightenment or something. And I guess the same goes for Zoro. Like Mihawk may have the title of "World's Greatest Swordsman" but who knows if there's someone somewhere out there stronger than him and they just don't display it or they're part of the Marines or something. Like who knows maybe it's Bogard? (The Mafia looking dude with the sword) It's quite weird that he's only had a few lines and is just standing right beside or behind Garp the whole show.

Usopp Vs Chu was a lot more epic in the anime, Chu chases him for a while longer and he actually betas usopp up a lot to the point where usopp starts thinking "its okay, i tried my best the guys will understand if i just lay low and go back once this is done" Usopp then realises he'd be a disgrace to do that so he gets up, manages to set him on fire like in the LA and even that doesnt take him down so Usopp just has to pound away at him with a hammer until he dies.

yeah while i love what they did with the other characters in the season i feel like Usopps moments were watered down? he just didnt stand out as much which is a shame because i think he has a lot of presence in the original (regardless if youre a fan of his character or not)

I think I can confidently say this show captures the first 40 episodes so well in such a short amount of time even with the changes. I’m new to the anime and can’t wait to continue watching it and come back for season 2

That is exactly how we did tattoos at parties back in the 80s. My first three tattoos were done that way.

In the manga and anime the towns folk and Nami's sister already knew what Nami was doing was pretending that they didn't know. I was surprise that they changed that part.

I'm telling you a truth. When I first saw the poster and the trailer of One Piece I thought it's another good comedy adventure story. I would have never thought in A MILLION YEARS that this would be such an emotional roller-coaster for me. It was such a beautiful and bittersweet journey. Shout out to all the cast and crew and the creators of this masterpiece. I can't wait for the next season. As someone who haven't watched the anime I think they did a GREAT job of maintaining THE HEART of the story. I didn't expect to love this show, this much.

The camera work in this show is seriously great, and the action/fight scenes are well composed, choreographed and filmed. But hats off to the casting director and the whole cast, because it's the characters that keep you engaged and keep you coming back for more, the whole cast did a phenomenal job.

Ok so yeah about Marines questioning Garp's authority, you gotta remember he is The Vice admiral ( who could have been admiral) and a Hero for the Marines.

take note, netflix: 1) listen to fans instead of antagonizing them. 2) give full creative control to the author. 3) ??? 4) PROFIT.

As a long time reader of One Piece to see you guys have the same reaction all of us did when Mihawk pulled up to Shanks makes me so happy.

Shanks is actually played by an actor named Peter Gadiot xD. And Yasopp, Usopp's dad is the one with the brownish dreadlike afro hair. Lucky Roux is the one in green, and Ben Beckman is the greyhaired one.

Usopp's dream is handled so well here. In the original it's far more strongly established that he looks up to and is proud of his dad for going out to sea and becoming a notorious pirate, regardless of what others say, but here, that's only vaguely alluded to, so his dream of becoming a great warrior of the sea (like his dad) doesn't quite have the same zing to it. BUT the choice to have his flashback, the equivalent to the other crewmembers eyes lighting up with promise and hope and determination, be him watching his mother die and being helpless to do anything about it, makes it hit SO HARD. Usopp is kind of aimless, he is kind of useless, he is kind of hopeless, but this little dream he chooses to chase reflects this so well. He wants to be brave, and stop running from what's in front of him. He wants to be a warrior, to protect what's important to him and win his battles. He wants to be of the sea, bigger and broader than the little town and the little room his mother died in. And until this moment (in the live action), he had never truly thought about what it meant to HAVE a dream. Or at least, not to chase it. And it's all subtext. Beautiful.

The thing about Usopp is that he's kind of the odd one out at the beginning of the story. He doesn't have a crazy power or proficiency in a fighting skill like the others, so naturally he has less confidence and is the most scared member of the crew, which serves in many instances as a comic relief. However, throughout the journey he gains this confidence and skill, be it through self-effort or particular circumstances out of his control (the latter provide some of the funniest moments in the series). I think they captured Usopp's beginning pretty well so his character should continue this way for some time, we just have to give him time to grow. Lets remember this is an adaptation (a pretty close one at that) of an anime that is over 1000 episodes, so the metrics by which characters are evaluated should be different from that of regular shows with far less story content.

Ussop is one of my favorite characters in One Piece just because he is such an underdog with so much potential! Trust me when I say he has some of the craziest moments in the future arcs.

Some of the best One Piece is the post arc updates. The end of this last episode was perfect.

Same here, they already have the S2 script ready, the only thing get in the way is the strikes, so I hope netflix be dealing with it faster so they can start filming. And not only S2, they said the success is enough to get 6 seasons (skypiea included) already in the bag, and hopefully can be extend to 12 season afterwards. Peak Piece energy is real 🤩🤩

The team has arcs planned till 12 season's, and content almost ready for the next 6 seasons, and the Netflix is onboard too. Just the official word remains for season 2. The script for season 2 is already ready. And ofcourse, after the strike ends, 12-24 months for season 2. The first week viewers were 18 million. Second week viewers were 19.5 million. So Netflix is very happy. The co-ceo released a word that Netflix passed a VERY VERY high bar and they would defo be invested in it

Never watched the Anime but watching along with you guys makes me want to go back and watch it. Truly sad this is the finale
