    The problem with yellow is that not only you have to be careful of when to hit life but also you have to run against the clock cause you don’t want to get 10mom 3 times in a row, or have them use Yamato . So the problem is you have to most of the time leave enel and katakuri at 2 life so they can’t use Yamato, Cracker , Amaru or things like that while also having to keep your own life low but also they will manage to build board and heal every turn while also having to play against triggers and expect the worst when hitting life. It’s becoming a chore and there’s yellow players that will literally only play blockers until they can heal and try to get you trash your life with big moms only.

    The main problem is something mentioned briefly at ~7 mins in - If you play too safe, you lose automatically due to board development and/or pressure that you cannot handle but yellow can. If you play aggressively, you lose to a bunch of triggers as well, the balance is extremely fine and skill doesn't really factor much here honestly, most of the time. Does skill play a role? Sure. Is it detrimental and aboslutely the decider of the game? No, it's not, due to how your decisions and plays might be 100% correct in 1 set of triggers and completely wrong in another, all of which you HAVE to risk and go for regardless of the result, most of the time lacking the knowledge to actually make a skill-based descision and weighed odds - This is bad game design for a cardgame that's inherently random, as all cardgames are - this is what I personally despise about Hearthstone and clones of that nature - skill is basically a non-factor, as it's mostly luck-based once you have the basics down. Current yellow is the embodiment of that. I firmly believe cards like LEnel, Bege and Sanji simply shouldn't exist in their current form (with Sanji being the least of those "evils" as you can atleast interact with it, but it still shouldn't be a 5k blocker). Crackers, Brules, Satoris, etc. are fine as a gimmick, but things with no real counterplay that can completely sack a game (like Bege and LEnel) are a problem. I've had games where I have 6 attacks (4 of which were 10k+) and I still couldn't kill an Enel with 4 cards in hand (2 known bricks) and 1 life, no initial blocks - You can imagine what happened, I'm sure you've experienced similar extreme highrolls. That should simply not be possible, at all. Obviously, he won the next turn, completely undeserved by any stretch of the imagination. I think Kata is much less of a problem than Enel, as with Kata you simply have to go for it most of the time, there's no real playing safe since mom into mom is game over if you take your sweet time and you're not passively Beged if you aggro early like against Enel. Enel is the definition of terrible card design and it would've all been avoided if he simply wasn't yellow - any other color would still be good, but not ridiculously random and frustrating to play against and with. He's really only problematic in yellow if you think about it. Also, I completely disagree with the "there are definitely ways to play around your opponent getting lucky" - That is true only sometimes, most of the times you simply risk it and it either pays off or it doesn't - NEITHER of which feel good for either player. Enel has 3 Beges and 3 Sanjis in trash yet gets both in last life cycle - Play around that when you're 100% losing next turn. The scenarios where you're helpless when they get lucky and you HAD TO ACT are faar too many and going for the "outplay" will lose you the game against smart opponents who realize it's time for them to go for it instead. And ofcourse, the complete poopshow current yellow vs yellow matches and mirrors are is also terrible. EDIT: All this could be much less of a problem if half-way decent banish cards were present in the color pools instead of being like what, 5 cards in total?

  • @monalumamonanana

    @monalumamonanana

    Yup, this is it exactly. You get put into a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Every yellow match is just a prayer that they don't get too many useful triggers and if you try to play safe and not attack life, you just get out pressured with Big Moms, Katas, Yamatos etc. Even if you survive the big bodies, you still have to attack life at some point to actually win, so there's not really an outplay there.

    Luck is part of the game play (knowing when to defend, to manipulate life or take it) as saka needs also luck to draw the right card at the right moment (leader recycling, great eruption , kuzan, sabo and 10 drop kaido ->to get the right cards)... if you do not, it might be a struggle. So luck is part of the saka play, but you don't lose a life for that... So saka in op05 has been given already all the tools. Kata in op06 will get them.. and you see already in op6+, saka slowly disappearing (replaced by gecko) and Kata still strive. Anyway, maybe they should have introduced rebecca in op06 instead of op5 to make saka at the same level playing field as others (Ban rebecca 😂). Also base on your hate of yellow (really wonder why?), you must struggle against it i guess. Also try to play Yellow and see how you fare and will soon notice that you can't rely solely on your trigger to win. But hey, always happy to see yellow (mono, or multi colors) winning against Saka in op05 as probably it will be a common thing in op6+

  • @Lessonius

    @@moonbreon The things you described for Saka apply to literally every deck, no exeptions - Every deck lives or dies by drawing mulling and searching for the right cards in whatever way is available/optimal/desired. That's part of the default game setup and if you're comparing this to yellow trigger shananigans and toxic card design of the particular cards mentioned, you've completely missed what the discussion and problematic at hand is about. The only difference is that Saka cycles faster due to his ability, there's nothing inherently unfair about it and the deck actually takes skill to pilot with decent results. Is Rebecca a card that should've been Dressrossa locked or return 3-5 back to deck'? Yes, still not nearly as dumb as losing games to random triggers consistently, both of which had nothing to do with me or my opponent, just random luck, which as you also mentioned, is already enough in a cardgame environment, there's no need to shift the balance of skill vs luck in the direction of luck - that's my problem with yellow and Enel in particular and it's a problem for everyone who isn't abusing this. I'd rather play against Saka 100% of the time, as we're actually going to play a game of skill that is not going to be, in 90% of cases, decided purely by luck, as most Enel games are currently. There's a reason people don't like yellow and it's exactly this - some games, you're completely destroying your opponent, but he still ends up winning for absolutely no reason, see example in original comment - that shouldn't be possible and is inherently unfair, as you get punished FOR NO REASON. I don't struggle against yellow, Kata is a fair and balanced deck that's reasonably strong and I have great records against it and when I lose, I don't feel that it was undeserved in 90% of games. Cannot say the same about Enel though, winning and losing feels bad 90% of the time, especially when terrible pilots win for no reason whatsoever, which can never happen with a bad Saka player, to use your example. The arguments I' making are from a gameplay and card design perspective, not "bruh I get wrecked everytime vs yellow mimimimi", because that's simply not the case and even if it was, it doesn't invalidate the points made.

    The biggest issue is that trigger cards got power crept to hell when yellow came out. When you look at earlier sets, Triggers were reserved for events as a trade-off for not keeping the event, or for very niche cards that were like 4c for 2k power with effects or 2c for 3k power characters. That made it balanced because you could run 4 in a deck in hopes of a trigger, but also risking it being a dead card in your hand. The new yellow cards are all so useful that there's no reason and no risk to running a full playset. Cards like Shirahoshi make sense because if you don't pull it as a trigger it's probably just gunna be a 1k counter. But things like Bege or any 5k swinger/blocker, those are great cards in your hand or in your life, there's no trade-off. Unfortunately, because so much luck is involved in beating yellow, I'm not sure how you would balance it. The decks themselves are still beatable so any type of card restrictions could make yellow just unplayable.

    What would you call a situation when you get a perfect hand and your opponent gets a bad one? Luck or skill? Or what if the purple one gets an additional don from the trigger, which will allow him to strengthen even faster? Many other decks also have good triggers (I know that yellow has the most of them), but yellow lacks other advantages. Yellow without triggers and its lack of good cards that clear the board or blocking cards would be a dead deck.

    This mindset that yellow only relies on luck will hold you back. You have to be good to be lucky, and lucky to be good. This goes for any deck at a fundamental level, all the way down to the cards you draw in your opening hand, and throughout the game.

    @@TheEgman I don't really agree, I think bandai could design playing with life a lot better. The issue is so many cards that gain life by putting a random card from your deck into your life, leaving both players hoping that it decides the match in their favor. 7c 10c mom, yamato, enel all have this really unfun play pattern. I really want to see more cards like Big mom leader, 8c katakuri, more cards that have a higher cost but let you have more control over player's life cards. The 3 brothers leaders look a lot better design-wise than enel

    Yellow can definitely be tricky to deal with, now with newer cards coming out that allow switching life it’s definitely not going to be so heavy on luck. Oh, well, I guess you have to decide which order you want to search, huh? 🤔 Normal response I get? Play around Red, if you don’t you’re bad. of course you would say that@@Flo_Cards . If you cannot see the unbalance in card/effect distribution no counting that no other color can heal, no wonder you chose yellow as your color. But all good, of course we have to get better, you just have to continue adding triggers to your deck and that is all.

    Imma keep it real, most players lose to yellow because they're too aggro brained to think through a play. Some players lose to yellow because of high roll, but that goes for any good deck, you're gonna high roll sometimes.
